INTRODUCTION:
Empowerment is the process of increasing the authority and responsibility of individuals or groups to make choices and to transform those choices into desired action and outcomes”
Women empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender or economic strength of individuals and communities of women
What is economic independence Individuals have economic independence when property they acquire without use of force, fraud or theft is protected from physical invasions by others and they are free to use exchange or give their property as long as their actions do not violate the identical rights of others
.
Criteria of economic independence Access to resources is important for economic freedom.
NFHS-3 has identified 5 important variables:-
1.Higher education attainment 2.Working outside 3.Media 4.Having bank account 5.Get loan

Why self employment is better
Enterprise owned and controlled by women having a minimum financial interest of 51% of capital and giving atleast 51% of employment generated in enterprise to women.

Categories of women entrepreneurEntrepreneur in larger sector- 1. Established in big cities 2. Women with professional qualification
3.Have competitive edge over others
Entrepreneur in medium sectors- 1.Established in cities and town 2.having sufficient education 3.Traditional and non traditional items
