Third Announcement

Dear colleagues,ndThe Executive Committee of the 2

Congress of the European Society of Microscope Dentistry has a great pleasure of inviting you to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania!

Vilnius was founded in 1323 by Grand Duke Gediminas and has one of the oldest and most charming Old Towns in the Eastern Europe. Vilnius was awarded with the status of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Today it is a bustling and rapidly expanding modern city with a splendid architectural blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles making it a wonderful city to explore.

The Congress will offer a good opportunity to exchange experience in various aspects of dental care using magnification and discuss the most important topics in microdentistry. I am convinced that the mixture of science, friendship and culture in a beautiful atmosphere are ingredients for an unforgettable Congress.

See you in Vilnius 2010!

Sincerely,

Laura AndriukaitieneCongress Chairman

Dear colleagues,With joy and pride the European Society of Microscope Dentistry invites you to its second International Meeting. The first congress in Amsterdam was a success with satisfied participants from 29 countries. The ESMD board is convinced this was only a beginning!

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, will host the second ESMD meeting from

th th16 till 18 of September 2010.

To most Europeans, Lithuania is an unexplored land, like many topics in the lectures ESMD plans to present to you. Let the discovery of new frontiers and unspoiled scenery, unique monuments and fascinating people, not only at the location but also professionally, be a good reason to come to Vilnius and enjoy the wonderful possibilities of modern

sttechnology in 21 century dentistry.

Looking forward to welcome you in Vilnius!

With warm regards,

Philippe Van Audenhove ESMD President

Tour to TrakaiTrakai district is one of the most beautiful and historically interesting regions

thin Lithuania. It was declared as the capital of Lithuania in the 15 century. Trakai is famous not only for its picturesque environs abounding in lakes (200 lakes, biggest of which are Galve, Vilkoksnis, Skaistis), but it also hosts a big number of unique historical and cultural valuables. One of the most popular visiting sites for tourists is the Trakai castle, the only insular castle in the entire Eastern European area which was used as a defensive fortress by Lithuanian Grand Dukes. Trakai is also home to the Karaites, a Turkic ethnic group practicing a religion akin to Judaism, who came to Lithuania from the

thCrimea in the 14 century as warriors for Grand Duke Vytautas. Today the country's smallest ethnic minority counts fewer than 300 members.

Vilnius City TourThe capital, Vilnius, is one of the most beautiful towns in Eastern Europe, situated at the junction of the Neris and Vilnele rivers and surrounded by picturesque wooded hills. Founded in 1323, its unique character and architecture reflects its history at crossroads of the Roman, Byzantine and Eurasian worlds. Many of Vilnius' churches and towers, fortifications, secluded medieval courtyards and narrow streets are a mix of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical styles. In 1994, the Old Town of Vilnius was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The largest Old Town in the Eastern Europe is architecturally the richest part of Vilnius.

Excursions for Accompanying Persons and Other Guests

Lithuania is the largest and southernmost of the Baltic states. Lithuania is bordered by Latvia to the North, Belarus to the East and South and Poland and Russian Federation to the South and Southwest. Forest spread through almost 30 percent of the country, and rivers, streams and more than 3000 lakes shape the land.

Five national and 30 regional parks preserve this paradise for boating, fishing, hunting, bird watching or horseback riding. The largest river, Nemunas, flows into the Curonian Lagoon separated from the Baltic Sea by the Curonian Spit. This 98 km long bank of sand, dunes and pine trees stretches from Kaliningrad in the South to the seaport of Klaipeda in the North. The Curonian Spit, recognised by UNESCO as a part of the World Heritage, is one of the most unspoiled natural spots in the whole Baltic Region.

It is also known as the amber coast, for the precious amber that was washed onto this shore for many centuries. Are you looking for white, sandy beaches, impressing dunes, crystal clear water, fresh air and romantic fishery villages? If yes, this is the place for you.
