Kurtzman Trash Service ExtraKurtzman Trash does our weekly trash pickup and have dumpsters place throughout Candlewood. Trash pickup is every Monday, regardless of Holidays except for Christmas Day. If you have any larger items that require help with hauling out, Kurtzman would be happy to help for an ad-ditional cost. Please call Kurtzman Trash, identify yourself as a Candlewood Resident and schedule a day and pickup time. Their phone number is 419-683-3921. Please keep in mind before you call, our next dumpster day is sched-uled for October 15th,2021, at Main Gate, Gate C and F. Two dumpsters will be at the Main Office. Dropoff time is 8-3. Kurtzman Trash will increase their dues from $10 to $12 due to a landfill increase. This contract will be for 16 months of curbside trash pickup. Candlewood Lake still has the lowest monthly charges in the area by $8. You will begin to see the additional $2 on your monthly invoices starting October 2021. Thank you for your understanding.

How to keep our Toilets Flushing and Water Plant Running
Candlewood uses a standard Grinder, in a low-pres-sure sewer system. Any water that you use in your house goes into the Grinder tank, ie flushing the toilet, washing clothes, taking a shower etc. Your Grinder collects “all the stuff” from your home and attempts to grind it up and send it on to our Water Treatment Plant. A happy grinder is a happy member and even happier maintenance personal! The does and don’t for keeping your grinder and our wa-ter treatment plant working at full capacity.
DO NOT PUT IN TOILET OR DUMP IN SINK*Wipes of any kind (baby, adult, cleaning pads, biodegradable, papertowels, etc) *Glass*Seafood Shells*Diapers, Depends or any disposable products*Any Cloth Material, string, rope, Dental floss, cotton, sponges*Metal, Plastic, Syringes, Objects *Sanitary Napkins Products of any type, any kind of medicine *Cat Litter, Aquarium Gravel or other like materials*Potting Soil, clay, fertilizer products*Cigarette Butts*motor oil or other car fluids
YES YOU CAN FLUSH ME DOWN THE DRAIN*Human Waste*Running your washer or dishwasher*Toilet paper only*Bath, Dish water
Who to call and When:Call Candlewood Utilities/Security Department when:*The red action light on your Grinder is on or flashing*The green light on your Grinder is no longer working*You see standing water around the Grinder and you smell a sewer odor
Call a Plumber:*If you see stand water around your Sump PumpIf the power goes off, remember your Grinder Tank only holds a limited amount of water, so please limit water usage, including flushing toilets or the water will begin to back up into the house. It is up to all of us to keep our system flowing and working at maximum

Permits:Please remember that Candlewood Lake is a small city. Before you build, cut down a tree or do any construction moves/adds/changes in your home you should check to see if a permit is required. We do have building codes and a Building Instructor. The best place to start is with ECC Committee on the permit process or variance. Otherwise, you may get a “stop work” notice from security. These guidelines are thoughtful and put in place for specifi c reasons over the years to keep our small city beautiful and help it grow.

“WIL” BLUE PARKDedicated on September 26th, 1998
It was a beautiful and sunny day for the dedication of “WIL” Blue Park, on Saturday September 26th, 1998. Approximately forty people gathered at the park area, located by the pond on the corner of Rockaway Road and Candlewood Drive. Many people new to Candlewood might ask, “Who is Wil Blue?” Wilson and his wife, Winnie, were the first people to live at Candlewood Lake. They purchased a lot “full of mud” in 1973 and moved into Candlewood in 1974. There wasn’t water in the lake back then, but they knew they had “tapped into a dream”. Thus began Wil’s life as the “Unofficial Mayor of Candlewood”. Wil Blue died in 1993, but Winnie continued to live in their home in Unit 8, on the road known as “Blutopia”. She and many family members were at the park dedication to hear some special words from people close to the family throughout the years. One of those Individuals was, George Harmon, who reflected upon Wil as the “Candlewood-Man”. He admitted to being a little stumped on how he would condense 28 years of knowing Wil into a 5-minute speech. In the early days, when the Blue’s and Harmon’s had the only two houses on the lake, that’s the time they decided they should really get to know one another! Any new members to Candlewood after that were always invited over to Wil’s for a welcome. George had decided on this special day that the ever popular “www” did not mean “world-wide-web” but the “Wil and Winnie Wagon”. Phil Blue, Wil’s son, spoke of the “family-man”, and Bill Plant reminisced remembering Wil as the “fun-man”. David Wolfe, Board President, thanked all who came, for those involved with having a special sign made for the official naming of the park. WIL BLUE PARK continues to be a place for personal reflection, family enjoyment and recreation. Wilson and Winnie’s vision for Candlewood Lake Continues on. (First published in the October 1998 Chronicle) If you have memories of the past you would like to share, please contact Joyce Miller (419)210-4637
