Conclusions to be drawn

1. Majority of contributions focused on what had been said before, building on or expanding on

ideas raised.

2. Relatively little talk was Off Topic (only 3%).

3. There was very little attempt to bring discussion to a summation (only 4%).

4. Understanding of the poem did appear to advance during the course of the chat.

5. All students participated to some extent, but with half the students accounting for the lion’s share

of the exchanges.

6. Some students struggled with the interface – network responses were slow because of technical

problems involving a shared line with St John’s College.
