WHEN OUR FOUNDER Sven E Jonsson created the Trangia stove, he could never have imagined how well used it would be 70 years later, that his invention would be sold in 35 countries around the world, or that outdoor enthusiasts in even more countries than this would be cooking on his creation.

BUT THIS IS WHAT has happened. His simple, reliable and cleverly constructed outdoor stove is appreciated by everyone from first-time users and families to experienced explorers.

THIS MAKES US unbelievably proud, and even more motivated to continue on with John E’s work.

TRANGIA IS STILL a family company, now in the forth generation. We are still located in Trångsviken in Jämtland, northern Sweden, where it all began in 1925. And we have continued to work with aluminium, without ever compromising on the functionality, quality or longevity of our products.

THE CATALOGUE you are now holding has all of our 287 products in it, several of which are new. We are extra proud of our T-Spoon, which won a Scandinavian Outdoor Award at the Outdoor Trade Show ISPO in January 2020.

OUR HOPE IS THAT this catelogue will give you a good overview of our assortment, and that you will discover some of our lesser known products and maybe even new ways that our stoves and accessories can be combined. And, if we have made it easier for you to present our products to your customers, then that would make us even more pleased.

BECAUSE WE ARE very aware that without our competent distributors, stockists and retailers, Trangia wouldn’t be nearly as international as we are today. Together, we ensure that more meals are cooked and enjoyed in the outdoors. And that is a good thing.

Cooking outdoors is easy with a trangia outdoor stove. The stove’s unique construction allows you to cook a delicious meal in any kind of weather, including strong winds and the extreme cold. Its simple, tried-and-tested design – without unnecessary details that can break or be affected by the cold – make it incredibly reliable. That it is easy to put together and takes minimal space in your backpack has also contributed to its enduring popularity among outdoor enthusiasts over the decades.

THE KEY TO THE TRANGIA system is its two-part windshield. The windshield’s construction keeps the burner a certain distance from the ground, ensures good oxygen feed and provides a stable platform that keeps pots and pans steady. It makes sure the heat moves up around the pot, ensuring maximum fuel efficiency. All these factors contribute to excellent efficiency and short cooking times, even in high winds.

THE CONSTRUCTION of the windshield and other components of the stove has been optimised so that

the entire stove set can be packed away with two saucepans, a frypan, coffee pot and burner making a convenient package. This makes it easy to keep track of all the parts and pack it into your backpack.

AT TRANGIA, WE SPEAK FONDLY of our spirit burner as we believe spirits to be the most versatile fuel, but our Trangia stoves are also compatible with gas, multi-fuel and gel burners. You can read more about these different types of fuel and their properties on page 12-13.

JOHN E JONSSON WAS NOT particularly interested in farming. Despite coming from a farming family, his interest in technology and design was evident from an early age. In 1925, together with his father-in-law, he started the company that would eventually become the leading provider of outdoor stoves in Sweden. In the beginning, they produced household pots that were primarily bought by farmers and workers.

BUT THE SWEDISH HOLIDAY reform led to Swedes having more free time, which resulted in a sudden increase in the demand for camping equipment. And being a bit of an inventor, it didn’t take long before John started developing a cooking stove for outdoor life.

JOHN E JONSSON WAS JOINED by his sons Olle and Erik who shared his interests and who also spent as much of their spare time as possible out in the mountains. In 1951, they launched their first prototype of the Trangia stove; a complete cooking system with a burner, pot and windshield. They decided to use liquid fuel due to its efficiency and user friendliness.

THE REST OF THE STORY is outdoor history. Trangia has become one of the outdoor industry’s strongest brands, both in Sweden and around the world. Generations of scouts, mountain hikers and outdoor enthusiasts have cooked their meals on a Trangia stove made in the village of Trångsviken in northern Sweden.

A TALENT FOR INNOVATION can go a long way. This was definitely the case for John E. Jonsson, and it is in his spirit that we continue to develop Trangia today.

History

IN SWEDEN, a Trangia stove is a synonym for outdoor cooking.

THE NAME TRANGIA comes from the village Trång in Jämtland, northern Sweden. Our founder John E. Jonsson decided to take away the circle over the “a” and add the “ia” to the end, which stands for “in aluminium”.

All trangia stoves are sold with either a spirit or gas burner. For users who want to broaden their stove’s functionality further, we also sell burners separately as accessories. An extra burner allows you to adapt your Trangia stove to suit different situations and seasons.

Here is some information that will help you choose which burner and fuel will suit your needs best.

THE ORIGINAL AND MOST commonly used burner in all Trangia stoves. It is easy to use thanks to its simple construction and it is reliable in all kinds of weather. Many users appreciate the almost complete silence of the spirit burner. The simmer ring can be used to lower the flame’s intensity by reducing the amount of fuel available, and can also be used to extinguish the burner. In temperatures below 0°C, the pre heater (found in Accessories) can be used for increased efficiency and shorter cooking times.

SUITABLE FOR families, hikers, scouting groups and others who want to have a simple and functional stove.

FUEL: Alcohol based fuel.

EFFECTIVE OUTPUT: 1000 W/3500 BTU.

BOILING TIME: Approx. 10 minutes for 1 litre of water.

A BURNER THAT IS easy to light, regulate and turn off. It is efficient and fast and leaves minimal soot on pots and pans. It works best in temperatures above freezing, but some fuel combinations can handle sub-zero temperatures. The gas burner is compatible with Trangia stoves in series 25 and 27, Trangia Triangle, and Open spirit stove 23. The regulator is compatible with the EN417 standard and gas canisters comes in different brands world wide.

IT SUITS MANY users and different types of outdoor life. Easy to use and efficient during the spring, summer and autumn.

The Gas Burner

FUEL: Butane/propane in canisters with an EN417 compatible attachment.

EFFECTIVE OUTPUT: 2100 W/6700 BTU.

BOILING TIME: Approx. 3.5 minutes for 1 litre of water.

OUR MULTI-FUEL BURNER is sold as a separate accessory and is a good alternative for winter use, when temperatures drop below –10°C. Different nozzles mean that it can work with several kinds of fuel, e.g. gas in the summer and liquid fuel in the winter. It is also practical when you are travelling through a number of countries and are not sure what fuel will be available. It is compatible with Trangia stoves in series 25 and 27.

SUITABLE FOR EXPERIENCED users that spend time in demanding climates, particularly in very low temperatures.

FUEL: Gas (canister with EN417-compatible attachment) or liquid fuel such as chemically clean petrol (alkylate petrol or Primus Powerfuel).

EFFECTIVE OUTPUT: 1500 W/5200 BTU (petrol).

BOILING TIME: Approx. 4.5 minutes for 1 litre of water.

A VERY SIMPLE BURNER. The gel burner boils water slightly faster than the spirit burner and can also be used with solid fuel tablets. It is suitable for trips where you will not be cooking advanced meals – e.g. where you only need to boil water, for example. The gel burner is compatible with Trangia stoves in series 25 and 27, Mini Trangia, Trangia Triangle, and Open spirit stove 23. Lid and cup is available as spare parts if you lose or damage either one of them.

THE GEL BURNER COMBINED with the Trangia Triangle and a small pot is easy to pack and perfect on trips where low weight is a priority.

The Gel Burner

FUEL: Gel or solid fuel tablets.

EFFECTIVE OUTPUT: Varies widely depending on fuel used.

BOILING TIME: Approx. 7 minutes for 1 litre of water (gel).

Trangia’s windshield and pots are made from a high quality aluminium alloy – perfect for a simple, functional and long-lasting outdoor stove. In our product range we also have a number of treatments and coatings that enhance the properties of the original Trangia stove.

Trangia series 25 and 27 can be purchased with various materials used for the windshield, pots and frypan. Pots can also be bought individually in different materials, for those who want to specifically choose the combination of materials for their Trangia stove.

Read on to learn more about the various properties of our main materials. This will help you to find a combination that is perfect for your needs.

ULTRALIGHT ALUMINIUM IS a lightweight material with excellent heat conducting ability. The Ultralight (UL) alloy, also called 5005, is 50% stronger than “regular” aluminium (alloy 1050). This means that the pots can be made thinner, which makes your stove lighter without losing any durability or functionality. UL suits many users who want a simple, functional and long-lasting stove.

HARDANODIZED ALUMINIUM has a surface treatment that makes the aluminium hard and scratch resistant. It has a matt grey finish. The treatment protects against wear and corrosion, and makes HA aluminium somewhat easier to clean than Ultralight. The weight is the same as equivalent products in UL, as the HA treatment is absorbed into the material. It is suitable for users who have previously appreciated our titanium pots, as HA products are just as light and durable.

NON-STICK COATING is primarily used on our frypans, but it is also available in saucepans. Non-stick pots and pans are made from Ultralight and have a coating that food does not stick to – even when using only a little or no oil or butter. This also means that they are very easy to clean. It is, however, less durable and we recommend only using wooden or plastic utensils with these pots and pans. Trangia’s non-stick coating is a PTFE that is free from PFOA.

DUOSSAL 2.0™, unique to Trangia, is made from aluminium and stainless steel that have been laminated together under extreme pressure. An optimal combination where the aluminium outer layer has excellent heat conducting abilities while the inner layer in stainless steel makes the pot durable and easy to clean. The material is 0.8 mm thick, of which 0.3 mm is stainless steel; these are robust pots for real cooking in the outdoors.

Its beauty is in its simplicity and the Trangia stove’s ease of use is one of the factors behind its enduring popularity among outdoor enthusiasts. Not complicating matters unnecessarily has always been a guiding principle in our product development work, and this is also true when using the Trangia stove.

We have put together some instructions for our users to ensure trouble-free outdoor cooking and a long life for your stove. You can also find instruction films on our Youtube channel and our website.

n SELECT A SHELTERED position for the best results and maximum fuel efficiency.

n POSITION THE AIR HOLES in the lower windshield towards the wind for good air intake.

n PLACE THE BURNER on the ground beside the stove and fill it with fuel.

n THE SUPPORTS IN THE UPPER

windshield should be in the lower position when using a saucepan and the upper position when using the frypan.

n USE THE HANDLE to position the supports and other parts once burner has been lit.

n USE THE FRYPAN as a lid for the saucepan to save fuel and shorten cooking time.

n USE ONLY WOODEN/PLASTIC utensils in all non-stick pots and pans.

n YOU CAN ADJUST the burner’s output by using the simmer ring.

n TO EXTINGUISH the burner: place the simmer ring in the closed position over the burner.

n NEVER LEAVE the stove unattended and adjust the position of the stove if wind direction changes.

n NEVER REFILL the burner with fuel before it is completely extinguished and has cooled down.

n FILL THE BURNER with a maximum of 2/3.

n ONLY USE alcohol-based fuel – never petrol or other oil-based fuel.

n USE TRANGIA’S fuel bottle that has a safety closure and easy-pour feature.

n DO NOT STORE FOOD in the pots or pans – they should be washed directly after use.

n WASH POTS AND PANS and other parts with regular washing-up liquid and a brush/soft sponge.

n IF YOU NEED A little extra help: Use steel wool or Scotch-Brite (not on non-stick pans).

n NEVER PUT POTS, pans or other parts in your dishwasher – the chemicals used in dishwasher detergent destroy the aluminium's surface.

n CLEAN THE OUTSIDE of your pots and pans as well. If you are using gas there will be almost no need for this, but petrol based or spirit fuel is more likely to leave a soot residue – but this is easy to clean off. Cooking over a wood- fuelled fire will mean more cleaning.

Cleaning your stove

CAMPING STOVES are designed for outdoor use. If you must use your stove indoors, make sure the space you are in is well ventilated, place the stove on a fireproof surface and make sure there is nothing flammable above it. Never leave the stove unattended.

Using your Trangia stove indoors

n DON’T PLACE an empty pot or pan on the stove as it can melt if it has no food or liquid in it.

n DETAILS IN HEAT resistant plastic, such as the grip on the kettle handle, can melt in extreme temperatures or if they come in direct contact with the flame.

Non-stick saucepan requires gentle cleaning.

n PUT A FEW DROPS of fuel on the absorbent pad in the preheater and attach it to the base of the burner.

n FILL THE BURNER with fuel.

n LIGHT THE FUEL in the preheater and place it together with the burner in the lower part of the windshield.

n LIGHT THE BURNER and start cooking as usual.

n THE FUEL IN the preheater will burn out after about two minutes.

n THE FLAMES MAY burn higher than usual before the preheater burns out; keep an extra watchful eye on the stove during this time.

Using the preheater in winter conditionsIn cold temperatures, you may need to preheat the burner for optimum efficiency.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

n MAKE SURE THE burner is completely empty of fuel to avoid the risk of leakage.

n MAKE SURE ALL PARTS are clean and dry before packing them away.

n STORE THE BURNER in the yellow plastic bag to avoid corrosion.

n PROTECT NON-STICK PANS with the protective plastic sheet or the Multidisc.

n PLACE THE STRAP buckle on the side of the stove.

n STORE YOUR STOVE in a Trangia cover bag.

n THE FUEL BOTTLE is best transported in an upright position, such as in the side pocket of a backpack.

The original Trangia stove

THE TRANGIA STOVE 25 LARGE is our larger stove, perfect for 3-4 people. All our 25 series stove sets include two saucepans sized 1.75 and 1.5 litres, a frypan, a windshield (upper and lower part), burner, handle and strap. Kettle 0.9 litres is optional and you can choose between spirit or gas burner.

THE WEIGHT of each stove set varies, and is most

significantly affected by your choice to include a kettle or

gas burner.

THE DIMENSIONS of all our 25 series stove sets are the

same: When packed away, they are 22 cm in diameter and

10.5 cm high.

ACCESSORIES The Trangia 25 series stove sets can be

complemented with pots and pans made from various

materials, a winter preheater and other accessories. You

will find details of accessories under each respective

THE TRANGIA STOVE 27 SMALL is perfect for 1-2 people. All our 27 series stove sets include two one-litre saucepans (one inner, one outer), a frypan, a wind-shield (upper and lower part), burner, handle and strap.

THE 27 SERIES SETS WITH A KETTLE are only available with the spirit burner. This is due to there not being enough space for both the kettle and gas burner when the stove is packed away. Of course, a gas burner can be bought as an accessory but it will have to be packed separately.

same: When packed away, they are 18.5 cm in diameter

THE TRANGIA TRIANGLE consists of a windshield in three parts and a holder for the burner. It is lightweight, compact and easy to pack. It can be used with either a spirit or gas burner and any of our pots and pans.

MINI TRANGIA was developed in the 1980s for the trail running event KarrimorMountain Marathon. It is our smallest and lightest stove, perfect for one person and created for those who want to minimize the weight of their cooking equipment.

Our production philosophy:

From raw materials to a complete outdoor stove in six minutes

THERE ARE 50 DIFFERENT stages in the production process of a Trangia stove. Altogether, they take a total of six minutes to perform.

WITH 60 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE and constant development work being carried out on both tools and methods used, it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that we are good at what we do. And we are constantly striving to further develop new, better ways to produce our stoves. To simplify, to be more efficient and to make even better products.

SOME PEOPLE WHO VISIT Trångsviken are surprised by our production. It might be the combination of traditional machinery and modern technology that captures their attention. Because we have both: Some of our machines are old faithful servants; a few have been with us since the 1950s. But they have been refined and adapted with a number of regulators and special tools to become even more suitable for each specific part of the process. And alongside these well-established workhorses: modern robots that facilitate workflow and management. All our supervisors and operators are experienced and knowledgeable machinists.

WE SOMETIMES HEAR from a customer who is looking for a spare part for a stove that they bought in the 1970s. Maybe they want to buy a kettle for their stove. Or a seal that needs to be replaced after years of faithful service.

THIS IS NEVER A PROBLEM because our stoves are built in modules. And with the right spare part, an old friend will be like new again – ready to play its part in cooking more delicious meals to be enjoyed in the outdoors.

FOR US, THESE ORDERS are a happy reminder of the fact that we have been thinking right from the beginning. That we have always chosen high quality – and taken no shortcuts – means that our stoves last for generations of outdoor adventures. And the fact that long-life products don’t need to be replaced is the cornerstone of our sustainability work.

HOWEVER, THERE IS much more to it than that.

THE ALUMINIUM in our products comes from European suppliers. It is transported through Europe by train and then transferred to trucks when it reaches Sweden.

WE HAVE BEEN USING cardboard to package our stoves for many years. Only five percent of our packaging is plastic, and we plan to phase out plastic entirely in the future.

WE RECYCLE ALL spill material from our factory. Naturally, it is sorted so spill from non-stick products, for example, is recycled separately from other materials.

WE INVITED AN INDEPENDENT consultant company to calculate the environmental impact of our products. We wanted to see what caused the biggest impact and where we could make improvements.

TO START WITH, we found that several things contributed towards reducing impact. Such as that 97% of our purchases were made from Swedish and other European suppliers, which greatly reduced transportation requirements. Our aluminium – a raw material that requires a lot of energy to produce – consists of 50% recycled material. Our factory is heated using sustainably produced wood pellets and is run on renewable electricity.

IN SUMMARY, the investigation showed us that our outdoor stoves each have a carbon footprint of 14.2 kg. The largest part – just over 85% – is in the raw material.

HOWEVER, IF YOU SPREAD this over the average length of a stove’s life – up to 20 or 30 years – this is actually reasonably low. Our stoves can also be recycled when they have lived their life, and be reborn in another product. And with the knowledge we have today, we can make well-grounded decisions that will help us further reduce our environmental impact in the future.

OUR NON-STICK COATING is free from PFOA and fulfils the requirements of the EU’s chemical directive REACH. The pre-coated aluminium is bought from one of our suppliers. In other words, we do not coat our non-stick products in our factory.

THE CHEMICAL TREATMENT that happens here is that the aluminium is washed to remove the slide oil that is used in some parts of production. All the water used in this process is treated in our own treatment plant – according to Swedish environmental law, which places high demands in this area. We regularly test our cleaned water by sending it to an independent laboratory to confirm that everything is working as it should.

A mini version of the popular Tundra set. As a complement to our camping stoves we have

produced a set that is sold without a burner, designed to suit gas stoves. This set is ideal

for boats, caravans or holiday cabins. The saucepans are the same as in the 27 series and

the frypan is from Mini Trangia.

TRANGIA’S PRACTICAL FRYPANS can be used over an open fire or on a spirit burner or gas stove. Frypans with foldable or fixed handles do not fit the Trangia stoves in series 25 Large or 27 Small – they are designed to be used on alternative heat sources. Shape a sturdy stick so you can insert it in the handle – this will give you a good distance from the fire.

Spirit burner for alcohol-based fuels. Easy to use due to its simple construction. The simmer

ring regulates the heat and is used to save fuel or to extinguish the flame. Works in all weather

conditions. One filling (max. 2/3 of its maximum volume) will burn for approx. 25 min. Boils 1 litre

of water in 10 min (this varies according to weather and quality of fuel).

The spirit burner can be used in all Trangia stoves 25 Large and 27 Small, Trangia Triangel (Art.

made from brass and the wick inside is made from 100% cotton.

The Multifuel burner 750001 X2 is a fast and safe alternative and especially

suitable for extreme weather conditions, eg. very low temperatures. The multi-

fuel burner fits all Trangia stoves in serie 25 and 27. This burner can also be used

with gas. Fits all propane / butane gas containers with threaded valves that meet

the standard EN417, which is an international standard.

Boils 1 liter of water in 4 min with gas and 4.5 min with alkylated pure petrol

DIFFERENT BURNERS have different maintenance and cleaning requirements. Our spirit and gas burners might need a new o-ring after a few years, depending on how much you use them. Store them in their covers when not in use toavoid the need for a replacement for longer. The Multifuel burner X2 made in cooperation with the Swedish manufacturer Primus is not complicated to use but it does have more parts that need to be maintained and cleaned. Please read the X2-instructions carefully before you use it and always take a spare part kit (Art.no750100) with you so, if your luck fails, you can repair it when on a trip.

Trangia doesn’t only make products for outdoor life, your caravan or boat. Our pots and pans, together with our simple, safe burners and fuel, give security and independence even in our modern, electrified society. During a long power outage or natural disaster, you’ll need an alternative stove for cooking.

THERE ARE SEVERAL VERSIONS of our classic Trangia stove that offer a complete set up with windshield, frypan, pots and a burner. For example, Trangia stove 25 Large 25-21UL/D with Duossal saucepans has pots and pans with stainless steel on the inside, which makes them scratch resistant and easy to clean – perfect for a household where regular metal cutlery and cooking utensils can cause a lot of wear.

THE SPIRIT BURNER AND STOVE BASE, Open spirit stove 23, make a reliable solution if you need a heat source for the pots and pans you have at home in your kitchen. Spirit burners are tried and tested and easy to use. If you don’t want to use your regular saucepans, Trangia’s camping pots and pans are adapted for optimal function with Open spirit stove 23 – with good heat distribution and short cooking times.

Which stove should you choose?

WE RECOMMEND STORING your spirits in Trangia’s fuel bottle with its safety valve for the safest possible fuel management. The cap’s construction means you don’t have to remove it when you refill your burner. A venting spout and a pouring spout allow the fuel to be poured into the burner in a steady stream so the risk of spills is minimised. The fuel bottle is available in three different sizes, see accessories on page 66. Read more about the spirit burner on pages 12-13.

GAS BURNERS AND GAS can also be used with all our stoves (with the exception of Mini Trangia). Gas is an efficient alternative that leaves almost no soot on pots and pans, and is easy to regulate. Gas canisters are available in different sizes in sporting and outdoor stores, petrol stations and grocery stores. Read more about gas as a fuel on pages 12-13.

Camping stoves are designed for outdoor use. If you do need to use your stove indoors, for example during a power outage, please take note of the following:

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO USE YOUR

STOVE BEFORE YOU START:

n READ THE USER instructions carefully (also available on our website trangia.se)

n TEST USING YOUR STOVE outdoors first and cook an entire meal, so that you know how everything works and how you should handle your burner and fuel.

n MAKE SURE THE SPACE you are in has good air circulation. Avoid small spaces with poor ventilation. In an apartment, it is enough to have a window ajar.

n PLACE THE STOVE on a fire-safe surface, such as a baking tray.

n MAKE SURE THERE is free space above and around the stove so that nothing can catch alight.

n NEVER LEAVE a lit stove unattended.

n USE THE HANDLE to position the supports and other parts once burner has been lit.
