In Arabic the word ( َِعْند) has different meanings. If one of them appears as a prepositional expression and corresponds to a grammatical person, like in the examples, it corresponds to the

The definite and indefinite article/ َمْعرَِفةُ وال ةُ رَ النَّك Read aloud the following words.

In Arabic the indefinite form of the nouns and adjectives is constructed by adding the n to the last letter of the words

    following its signs of vocalisation.

The definite form, though, is constructed in two ways: an own way and another one by adding it to other elements (another noun

    or an article).

For the own form of definition an article (ال) is added at the beginning of the word. The same article is used for singular and plural, masculine and feminine.

Read once again the indefinite and definite words.

Write them in your exercise book.

The Addition / ِضافةاإل Read aloud the nouns of the first two pictures.

Read aloud the formation of the possessive in the last picture by adding.

Pay attention to the formation of the possessive by adding. The first noun loses the n because it is no indefinite any more, but does not require the article of definition; it does because it is definite

by the adding to the second noun.

The possessive by adding can have two forms: adding to a noun like in the previous example and in the three following sentences or adding to a possessive article like in the last three sentences.

Read the six sentences corresponding to the adding to a noun and a possessive article.

Read once again all examples of this point and pay attention to the way of definition of the nouns by adding.

Write them in your exercise book.

Read the text of the point Read / ِاْقرأ on page 61. Tick (correct) or (wrong) the following sentences.

The Nominal sentence / ْسِميةُجْملة اإلِ ال The definite nominal sentence or “attributive classification” in Arabic is expressed the way that

they have a definite nominal sentence as subject, which means (ُمْبَتَدأ), (including proper names and personal pronouns) in nominative (with َضم ة) and as a predicate, which means (َخَبر), a noun or adjective of indefinite determination also in nominative. They match in sex and number with the

    noun.

In this case like in the example in this point in Arabic is a definite nominal sentence ( السَّيارُة َجديدة), corresponds in Spanish a verbal sentence excluding the verb to be (The car is new).

Remember that the verb to be in Arabic in present is not used. If we have the same sentence in past or future, the verb to be is used.

Read the nominal sentences of the picture aloud.

Observe that the subject (الُمْبَتَدأ), being a definite nominal sentence, is constructed with a noun and an adjective like in the second example of the table.

Pay attention to the fact that the same subject does not have any article, if its possessive form appears by adding it to another noun or like in the third example of the table or to a possessive

article like in the fourth example of the table because it does not need any proper definition.
