PORTS OF CALL >Aomori, Japan Nature, fine food, hot springs, festivals and more-Aomori is filled with attractions. Visit the HirosakiCastle in Aomori Prefecture, one of Japan’s best cherry blossom spots. The annual “Hirosaki Sakura-Matsuri” cherry blossom festival held at Hirosaki Park from late April to early May is a “must-visit” when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, adding another priceless memory to your vacation.

Beijing (Tianjin), ChinaTianjin port is the gateway port to Beijing, the capital of China and home to some of the country’s best-known tourist attractions, such as the Great Wall of China, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace. Other highlights include the modern scenic spots such as the National Stadium and the National Aquatics Center which notably held the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Bangkok (Laem Chabang), ThailandA kaleidoscope of colours, this dream-like city is festooned with ornate shrines, hushed temples and towering golden spires, and floating markets amid a lattice of canals (klongs).

Boracay, PhilippinesLittle more than a speck off the northwestern tip of Panay, Boracay is the trophy beach of the Philippines. It offers an intoxication mix of sun, sand and fun with hotels, restaurants and shops scattered all along the beach. If you like, you can visit the popular White Beach or make your way east to Bulabog beach, which because it’s wilder and windier, is a favourite windsurfing spot. Yet another option, relax on the serene and tranquil Puka Beach to the north.

Busan, South KoreaGet the big picture of the world’s fifth largest port atop the 387 feet Busan Tower or head for Gwangalli Beach, much favoured for its wide shore and views of the iconic Gwangan Bridge. The shopping is hard to beat, whether it’s designer boutiques at Lotte Mall or the endless array of stalls at Gukje Market. A wonderful contrast is the sacred Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, teetering on a rocky cliff above the ocean.

Hakodate, JapanA port city on the island of Hokkaido, Hakodate is best known for the spectacular views and the area’s delicious, fresh seafood, sushi, squid, and ramen. From the top of the Mount Hakodate, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the city surrounded by the ocean no matter day or night. The former Goryokaku Fort, Japan’s first Western style fortress, is now used in as a public park and is a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing. Embark on an excursion to scenic Onuma National Park, famous for its picturesque, island dotted lakes and its autumn colours.

Hanoi (Halong Bay), VietnamVietnam’s captivating capital is a blend of Parisian grace and Asian pace. Rise early and watch t’ai chi practiced near Hoan Kiem Lake at its historical centre, then take in the bustling back streets of the Old Quarter.

Ho Chi Minh City (Phu My), VietnamLying in the heart of the Mekong Delta, and still most often referred to as Saigon, this port is an intriguing combination of Asian and French culture. Savour its colonial era buildings, cafes and side walks crammed with noodle stalls and markets.

Hong Kong, China Way more than just a shopping mecca, Hong Kong entrances you with its neon-lit mix of old and new, East and West. The funicular tram ride to the 1,800 feet summit of The Peak for its glorious views should top your list (go early to avoid lines), but save time for a delicious Dim Sum lunch of savoury delicacies steamed in small bamboo baskets.

Hue/Danang (Chan May), VietnamOn the banks of the Perfume River, this former capital is a massive open-air museum of temples, pagodas, palaces and tombs. Explore the Imperial Citadel, then embark on a river cruise for views of the Tombs of the Emperors and towering Thien Mu Pagoda.

Jeju Island, South KoreaThis tropical island paradise will enchant you with its sandy beaches, swaying palm trees and amazing volcanic landscape. Waterfalls, museums, folk villages, scuba diving, hiking and festivals galore will keep you busy.

Kagoshima, JapanKagoshima is the southernmost city on Japan’s bullet train network and the capital of Kagoshima Prefecture. The city is often compared with its Italian sister city, Naples, due to a similarly mild climate, streets lined with palm trees, and Sakurajima, Kagoshima’s version of Vesuvius. Right in the heart of the city, you’ll find the fascinating Kagoshima aquarium, traditional Senganen Japanese g ardens, Temonkan shopping district and the Shiroyama mountain-top park with a view over the city.

Kanazawa, JapanBlessed with a number of cultural attractions, Kanazawa is a highlight for visitors to the Hokuriku region. It is most famed for Kenroku-en, the fine former castle garden that dates from the 17th century. The experience is rounded out by handsome streetscapes of the former geisha and samurai districts. Don’t miss out on a visit to Shirakawa-go , a traditional village showcasing a unique building style known as gassho-zukuri and preserved as one of the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.
