SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE WAR IN 2003…

-4,470 American Soldiers have been killed in Iraq 98% of them were male, 91% were non-officers, 82% active duty. 11% were from the National Guard, 74% were Caucasian, 9% were African-American, 11% Latino, 19% were killed by non-hostile causes, 54% of US casualties were under 25 years old , 72% were from the US Army .

- 31,929 American Soldiers have been injured.

- - The Amount if Iraqi civilian deaths is much higher. Although there is no way to state an exact number of deaths it is well over 100,000, and more people are killed every day.

- We have spent 2.4 trillion dollars on the war so far, on health care for soldiers, ammunition, travel costs, housing, food for soldiers, and more.

• The new Iraqi Government was established in 2005 after it was completely taken away by US policy decisions in 2003.

• Iraq now has a parliamentary democracy, with 18 governorates• After Deba’atification the Iraqi socialist party was nonexistent,

many very intelligent people lost there jobs just for being part of the party, since then the party still has not been re-established and probably never will.

• The Iraqi military has come along way since it was disbanded by the US in 2003

• Today the army has 17 divisions, containing 56 brigades or 185 combat battalions, divisions are forming engineer, logistics, mortar, and other units.

• Recruiting men and lack of money is still a problem facing the Iraqi Military

• 50,000 of the 65,000 US troops currently in Iraq are set to remain until the end of 2011 to advise Iraqi forces and protect US interests.

• The remaining troops will train Iraqi security forces, and help protect Iraqi civilians

• Because of a policy decision Obama made with Iraq, all US troops have to be out of Iraq by the end of next summer

• Abu Gharib is the Central prison in Iraq, The prison was used for detention purposes by both the US and the Iraqi government

• In October 2002, Saddam Hussein freed most of the prisoners in the Abu Gharib Prison. After they were released, the prison was left empty, it was vandalized and looted. Almost all of the documents relating to prisoners were burnt inside of prison offices and cells.

• This Caused much structural damage to the prison• It wasn’t until 2004 when it got out what was actually going

on in Abu Gharib prison…

Abu Gharib

• The Prison was the sight of much controversy with US soldiers abusing prisoners using cruel tactics.

• Many soldiers have been charged for the killings of Abu Gharib.• In one case US soldiers were charged for taking pictures with the

corpses, and sharing them to other soldiers via email• The photos were so vulgar that the case was kept a secret in

hopes that it wouldn’t get out into the public, all the incidents at Abu Gharib are a huge embarrassment to the United States

• It is confirmed that some of the soldiers kept fingers from the bodies of Afghans they killed as war trophies.

• In my Opinion this makes the US look really bad, we are supposed to be there to help make the country a better place, and stop things like this happening, and we are killing , and torturing people ourselves, this definitely wasn’t the goal of our country when we entered the war.

In 2003 after of the fall of the Iraqi Government looting had become a serious issue.

This was a big problem in Iraqi museums because ancient artifacts, art, and other important items were just being taken and in most cases destroyed.

On April 10th and 12th The National Museum of Iraq was looted, and thousands of precious Mesopotamian artifacts were taken.

The US secured the Museum on April 16 after fierce fighting with the Iraqi people, but the damage was already done, over 10,000 artifacts were taken.

After this the Museum was closed as US officials attempted to get back the stolen artifacts.

The Museum reopened 3 years later in 2006, even though much of the looted artifacts were never recovered.

• Many Iraqi children are suffering from trauma disorders, there is often bombings, and fighting going on right outside they’re houses on the streets.

• 70% of children living in Baghdad have symptoms of trauma from the war including bed wetting and stuttering. There is also a chronic shortage of school physiatrists in the majority of Iraqi schools.

• The Iraqi Government is aware of problem but cant do anything to fix it until they have adequate funding, and proper security

• Iraqi children our facing problems that are effecting not only there learning but there every day lives, one child refused to leave his home after a pieces of metal broke through his home and cut his arm, making it useless, another boy stop speaking after he watched his father bleed to death on there floor of they’re home

• Many people fear that that children will become a new generation of fighters spurred from the violence and murder that they witness every day.
