n PROGRAM OVERVIEW “Flipgrid Fun: Increase Student
Voice” is a program that was designed to provide students with opportunities to share their voice in the classroom setting. Flipgrid is a video recording app that allows students to record themselves and view/respond to other students’ recordings. Students can access the Flipgrid app and respond to questions, summarize their learning, practice fluency, and participate in collaborative learning projects. Videos can serve as a formative assessment for teachers to assess student understanding.
The overa l l purpose of th is program is to incorporate technology in the classroom setting while giving all students a platform to share their learning with others. Flipgrid can be incorporated in all content areas to support student learning. The possibilities are endless!

n OVERALL VALUE There are many benefits to utilizing
Flipgrid in the classroom. First of all, every student has an oppor tunity to share their voice. Some students struggle with written responses or putting their ideas on paper. Flipgrid allows students to speak and convey their message verbally. This grants students the opportunity to formulate complete sentences and express their thoughts.
Additionally, students love being able to hear their responses before they submit them. This is a great feature for quiet students who may be fearful to share out loud in class. I’ve seen these students show great confidence in being able to share their thoughts using Flipgrid.
Another benefit to using Flipgrid in the classroom is that it provides students with the opportunity to learn with others. Students can pose questions, create learning challenges, and respond to other students. This is authentic learning at its finest! Flipgrid can make a positive impact on student learning in all subject areas and is a great tool to amplify student voice.

Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Flor ida Southern College. She has been teaching for 12 years. She currently teaches first grade at Caldwell Elementary. This is her fourth time as a T2T grant developer.

… so lve an add i t i on and /o r subtraction word problem and explain how they solved the equation.
n STANDARDS FSS / NGSSSMAFS.1.OA.1.1: Use addition and subtraction within
20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
n MATERIALS• iPad• Flipgrid App
n DIRECTIONS 1. Students will create an addition and/
or subtraction word problem.2. Students will take turns using the
iPad to access Flipgrid and record their word problem.
3. Students will be paired up with other classmates. This will be the word problem that they are required to respond to.
4. Students will record their answer to the assigned word problem and explain their steps to solve the equation.
n EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT Students will be assessed based on
participation and response. Please see the attached rubric for more information.
n ADDL INFORMATION Students can be paired up based
on ability.

n STANDARDS FSS / NGSSSLAFS.1.RL.1.2: Retell stories, including key details,
and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.

n DIRECTIONS 1. Students will read an assigned book
or story.2. Students will take turns using the
iPad to access Flipgrid and retell the story, using key details.
3. Students can also respond to pre-established questions regarding the text.
n EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT Students will be assessed based on
participation and response. Please see the attached rubric for more information
n ADDL INFORMATION If needed, students can write
down their responses or ideas before recording.
Sentence starters can be provided for students who need additional support.
