The prophets of Islam

Muslims believe the last prophet to be sent by Allah was Muhammed. For them, he is the Seal of the Prophets, the final vessel through which Allah’s messages were conveyed.

During his life, Muhammed received a series of revelations from Allah. These were written down to form the Qur’an.

The Prophet Muhammed

Muhammed remains of great importance to Muslims today. There are many stories told about his life and teachings that help Muslims to understand the kind of person he was and how they should aspire to live their lives.

To show their respect for the Prophet, when Muslims say the name of Muhammed, they usually say “peace be upon him” straight afterwards. When written, this

might be abbreviated to pbuh.

Although Muslims respect Muhammed, they do not worship him. Muhammed’s successor, Abu Bakr, said:

Respecting Muhammed

“For those who would seek to worship Muhammed, know that Muhammed was a man. Muhammed is dead, God is eternal.”

Abu Bakr meant that you should worship Allah and only Allah, and not make Muhammed (pbuh) into

an idol for worship, since the Qur’an teaches that idolatry is wrong.

What do you think Abu Bakr meant by this?
