आप कहाँ�� रहाँता हाँ�? Where do you live?

• Intro: Introductions: Walk around the class asking each other where you live, like this:

• आप कहाँ�� रहाँता हाँ�? Where do you live?• मैं� क� ट वै�यल मैं� रहाँता� हूँ�। I live in [Kent Vale].

मैं� क� मैंब्रि�डजा मैं� रहाँता� था� I lived in Cambridge

• मैं� भा�रता मैं� रहाँता� था� Past Imperfectivesame as present imperfective but with था� था था� था�, describes past habits and states

क्य� आप बै�टमैं�ने देखता था? Did you watch ..?

जा� हाँ��, मैं� बै�टमैं�ने देखता� था� । Yes I watched ..

• Activity: Write down a TV show you used to watch, or a game you used to play when you were a child. Now hand it to your neighbour. Now you neighbour reads what you wrote and asks you what you used to do and you tell them.

मैं� जा�ने� चा�हाँता� हूँ� I want to go

• doer + infinitive + चा�हाँने� as a finite verb, gives sense of ‘I want to X’ For instance

• हाँमैं परिर� ल'देने जा�ने� चा�हाँता हाँ�। We want to go to London.

हाँमैं ….. जा�ने� चा�हाँता हाँ�।

• Activity: break into groups of four or so. Each person writes down a place they would like to go. Then give the places to one of you. Who has to summarize where you all want to go. Repeat with something you would like to eat, but give the words to somebody else in the group to summarise.

मैं(झक* जा�ने� चा�ब्रिहाँए I should go

• doer + क* + infinitive + चा�ब्रिहाँए, gives a sense of ‘I should do X’.

मैं(झ देवै� लने� चा�ब्रिहाँएI should take medicine

• if the thing that should be done is feminine and the verb is transitive then the verb takes a ‘feminine’ form.

Want to go on holiday?

• Activity: Want to go on holiday? You should earn some money first. Work in pairs and make up examples like this. One person say what they want to do, then the other tell them something they should do to make it happen.

• आप - मैं� परिरक्षा� मैं� प�� हाँ*ने� चा�हाँता� हूँ�। You – I want to pass the exam.दे*स्ता – ता* आपक* र*ज़ पढ़ने� चा�ब्रिहाँए। Friend – Then you should study everyday.

आप बैचापने मैं� कहाँ�� रहाँता था?Where did you live in

childhood?

• मैं� बैचापने मैं� [लि�डने�] मैं� रहाँता� था�। In childhood I lived in [Sydney].

• Walk around the class asking each other where you lived as a child, as above.Note: बैचापने nm. childhood

तामैं( क्य5 कल हाँ* ने हाँ* देखने� चा�हाँता हाँ*?

• क्य5 Why and ब्रिक� लिलए for what purpose?

• match with क्य5ब्रिक because• क्य5 Why? carries a sense of ‘what is

your motivation?’• ब्रिक� लिलए for what purpose? gives a

neutral sense of ‘why’

• Activity: Make up a dialogue like this with you neighbour, and be prepared to tell it to the class:

• आप – आप कहाँ�� जा�ने� चा�हाँता हाँ�? Where do you want to go?पड़ो*�� – मैं� दिदेल्ल� जा�ने� चा�हाँता� हूँ�। I want to go to Delhi.

• आप – आप दिदेल्ल� क्य5 जा�ने चा�हाँता हाँ�? Why do you want to go to Delhi?

• पड़ो*�� – क्य5ब्रिक मैं� ल�ल ब्रि:ल� देखने� चा�हाँता� हूँ�। Because I want to see the Red Fort.

Having a Sickness

• मैं(झक* जा;क�मैं हाँ� । I have a cold ‘having’ something you can’t point to, it’s ‘to’ you

• मैंर लि�र मैं� देदे< हाँ� । I have a headache.‘having’ a pain you could point at, its ‘in’ you.

मैं� बै�मैं�र था� I was sick

• Activity: write down the last time you had a flu or a fever. For instance:

• दे* हाँफ़्ता पहाँल मैं(झ जा;क�मैं था�।I had a flue two weeks ago.

• चा�र दिदेने पहाँल मैंर लि�र मैं� देदे< था�।I had a head-ache four days ago.

• Note: पहाँल ago• ��ल year हाँफ़्ता week दिदेने day
