This document provides an overview of the HIMSS 2009 New Directions IHE PCD DPI door poster.
Use Case scope is summarized in the following table.
Harmonization Use Matrix
Developed from contributions by several harmonization* working groups
Initial phase focuses on normalization of acute care data interchange representation and transportation (see Phasing)

DPI PoC [w]P/LAN
DPI Point-of-Care (PoC) acute care Patient/Local Area Network (P/LAN), incl. wirelesss (wP/LAN)
Supervisory Control and Data Acq’n (SCADA): may be local or remote,
wired or wireless, patient- or body-area network-based (wP/LAN).
Transport without data transform via Clinical LAN is necessary to integrate patient data from mobile location(s), e.g. Ancillaries, to “home-bed” and “home-nurses’ station[s]”
Transport with data transform (e.g. IEEE 11073-10201 HL7 v2.x is necessary for integration in Clinical Document Arch. (CDA) format via IHE PCD DEC method
Publish /Subscribe method is facilitated by use of data topology ‘tree’ @ ICS Generator tool XML format

DPI PoC [w]P/LAN Relationships
DPI Point-of-Care (PoC) acute care Patient/Local Area Network (P/LAN), incl. wirelesss (wP/LAN)
Sensor-based data acquisition
DPI Data TransporterInterchanges data
between Clinical/Hospital LAN
and PoC LAN/PAN
DPI Data TransceiverInterchanges data
between Transporter and PoC [w]LAN/PAN
Agents, in this case between private
[w]BAN agent and public [w]PAN agent
(e.g. Pump)
Manageable Data Descriptor
defines manageable data elements per Medical
