(Cont’d, President Message) continue, I want to make sure that we take full advantage of the opportunities that the show can be for the Guild. This includes better planning for fund raising via the boutique and other activities to enhance our presence. As an aside note, Hidden Stitches Guild voted on Friday, 04/05 that they will continue to participate in the next show. That is fantastic news! Finally a program note: We are in for a treat this month with our own member, Janis Magee sharing her knowledge of Collage Quilts, as you know Janis took home one of the viewer’s choice ribbons at our Quilt show for her stunning Tomato Pin Cushion wall hanging! I am looking forward to learning from her! We have a few openings left for our Fabric Painting class in May with the Artzy Chameleon team, also our program for May meeting. Sign up early if you want to be part of it! Hope that if hit with any April Showers this month, it brings you nothing but Flowers of Joy in May! Happy Quilting!

PQ Retreat 2020 (Judy Wedekind)

I would like to thank our amazing co-chairs and committee members for a great 2019 Quilt Retreat at Hampton Inn in Oldsmar, March 4 - 7. There were tons of laughs, a few seams ripped, snacking, and lots of sewing done. Personally, I got to know a few more members of the guild and the Domino’s Pizza guy, so it was a win - win weekend.

During our April meeting, we will be discussing the PQ's 2020 Retreat. What does this mean to you?

The retreat we just attended at the Hampton Inn located in Oldsmar was very well received by many. I will be presenting potential retreat location options: 1. Return back to DaySpring (Feb 27 - March 1, 2020) or 2. Continue at Hampton Inn (same length, dates TBD). To be transparent, there is an approximately $70 differential, Hampton Inn being higher.

The additional $20 upcharge that PQ collects for incidentals, examples where money is spent: welcome bags; make n takes; ice cream social; pizza party, etc. Is this still something that the Retreaters want?

Community Outreach (Gale Pittman, Chair)

Hello Ladies, For those who attended retreat, it sure was fun! We miss those who were unable to attend this year. Thanks so much for all the donations for community outreach. We have 1 finished quilt, 134 hearts, 15 bears, 3 baby hats, and 8 scarves! Great work! I will take them to donate Right after the April meeting. I know several people are finishing up items so I will collect them at the next meeting and then make donations. Remember we are still collecting socks and underwear for Clothes To Kids so you can bring those items also. New in package for any age 4-18 years of age is what they always need. I have collected so many blocks to make baby quilts during retreat. They are cute but I do not have enough years left in my life to finish them. I will bundle them and put them on the table for help in completing them. We are talking about a sit and sew to finish the quilts but since they need backing batting and binding, you will need to select a bundle and look at your stash before the sewing day. I do not have yardage donations for backings for completion of the blocks. I would appreciate any mid or long arm quilters to help out if you can. Or if you want to use your domestic machine since they are small projects. A walking foot in the ditch is perfect for these small projects. Nothing fancy is needed. The blocks are in flannels or cottons. I do not mind donating but I cannot possibly quilt them also. My sister who was visiting from California and went to retreat sewed together 5 or 6 baby quilts during retreat time. She is a fast sewer for sure. Now I am dressing up the bears with bows on their necks. They are adorable. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have about charity projects. Donna McCain will also be able to help out if you need any advice. Thank you all.

Meeting. Stephanie Sheppa

April Meeting Program: Janis Magee will be giving a presentation and demo on how to collage a quilt. Janis is a member of our PQ guild and has been quilting since the early 80s and sewing since she was 5 years old. Janis has belonged to our guild for over 20 years. She loves doing all types of quilting and is always trying to learn new techniques. Want to Win a Fat Quarter Bundle of Batik Fabrics? Also at our April Meeting, you can receive up to 3 chances to win a bundle of assorted batik fat quarters (FQ) in our Batik FQ Frenzy. To enter the frenzy, bring to the April meeting 1, 2, or 3 FQs (18 x 22) to acquire a ticket for each FQ entered (maximum of 3 FQs). Turn in your FQ(s) at the Sign-In table upon arrival. Drawing will be held toward the end of the meeting. Depending on how many FQs are collected will depend on how big the bundles will be so the more the merrier.

(Cont’d, Programs)

May Meeting and workshop The program for the May meeting will be a presentation by Randy Bendler co-owner of the Artzy Chameleon Studio (his Mom Trish is the other co-owner). Randy and Trish will teach a workshop on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Amber Glades. Randy has an extensive background working in the graphic arts and photography field. He began hand painting on fabric using his photographs of central Florida as inspiration in 2005 and has evolved not only into selling his textiles but to teaching students to work with the medium. He teaches small groups in his studio in Homosassa. You will work on painting a dramatic sky for the background in the a.m. and then in the afternoon work with Mom Trish creating foliage, rocks, trees and as well as elephants or giraffes to create African inspired piece.

The fee for the class is $10.

There is a $30 kit fee for the class (payable to Randy at class) which includes all painting supplies and pattern.

The supply list for the class is: paper towels, small sharp scissors, and Elmer’s glue. Sewing machines are optional.

Please do not wear your Sunday best clothes as the paint does not wash out.

Don't forget your lunch and beverage. The class is filling quickly (limit 15) so if you want to take the class please contact Lori Lewis to sign up 727-687-3216 asap. If you have questions please call me 727-372-6456.

See you at the April meeting.
