• Explain how a balanced programme meets The Scout Association’s educational objectives
• Describe how the Programme Zones, Methods and Underlying Ways of Working for their section help ensure the operation of a balanced programme

Objectives• Plan a balanced programme• Use a wide variety of sources, methods and
themes to generate exciting and relevant programme ideas
• Involve young people in planning through the use of Sectional, District and County forums, conferences and committees
• Use the Self-Review process to support and enhance programme planning

Planning a balanced programme
Need to plan over a variety of time spans
• Long-term – Over a year
• Mid-term – over three months
• Short-term – over one month
• Individual meetings – per week

Create a Planned and Balanced Programme
In Groups plan a balanced programme for 14 weeks from September to December
Choose one week and plan a detailed evenings programme
The plan should include:• Relevant Programme Zones and/or theme• Activities• A variety of Groupings

Review • Looks back on what has been happening• Looks forward considering what support may be
needed• Should take at least once a year• Not just about problems but also about
celebrating success
