WELCOME MESSAGE
The XII Brazilian Materials Research Society Meeting (XII B-MRS) will be held from 29 September to 3
October in Campos do Jordo, So Paulo, Brazil. B-MRS Meeting has grown considerably in recent
years, and now is considered as an important international meeting in Materials Science and Engineering.
The scientific and technological sessions include many well-established areas of materials research as
well as emergent ones: Materials for Electronics and Photonics, Materials for Energy, Soft Materials and
Biomaterials, Nanomaterials, Supramolecular structures, Organic Materials, Characterization Techniques,
Theory and Simulation, etc. The main objective of the B-MRS Society is to congregate materials
scientists in order to stimulate and synergize the development of knowledge in several branches of
materials science and engineering.

5 WELCOME
WELCOME TO THE XII BRAZILIAN MRS SOCIETY MEETING
Dear Participants,
We would like to welcome you to the XII Brazilian Materials Research Society Meeting, from 29 September
through 3 October, 2013, in Campos do Jordo, So Paulo, Brazil.
The XII Brazilian MRS Meeting aims at promoting, demonstrating and enabling development of new technologies,
techniques and theories. It also intends to foster new work strategies and collaborations, while promoting the
updating and training of researchers and students.
The Committee Organizers put together a program with 14 dedicated Symposia following the traditional MRS
format, which covers a wide range of scientific and technical topics in materials science and engineering. This year
the Meeting congregates about 1500 participants and has 1770 accepted abstracts.
The Opening Ceremony will be followed by the Memorial Lecture Joaquim Costa Ribeiro, Progresses in
Materials Research in Brazil by Professor Elson Longo. The conference program also includes 7 Plenary Lectures
by internationally renowned researchers, and a Panel Discussion on Science, Engineering and Commercialization
of Industrial, Electronic and Biomedical Devices. Before closing the Awards Ceremony will honor students with
the Bernhard Gross Award for the best contribution of each Symposium and the best contribution of the XII
Meeting.
Another important feature of the SBPMat Meeting is the Exhibition which offers information on a wide variety of
products, instruments and services for the materials community.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we thank the agencies FAPESP, CAPES and CNPq for the financial
support. We also thank the Brazilian Materials Research Society staff and board, the Symposium Coordinators,
members of the Program, Local and National Committees, for their commitment and great effort to make the XII
Meeting possible.
We hope you enjoy the XII Meeting and look forward to stimulating exchange of scientific information and new
ideas and collaborations.
