Taylored Trips – Out & About – Muizenberg CornerIn the first episode of Out & About (Overberg) we ended that trip off in Gordon’s Bay in False Bay’s north-eastern corner. This episode is in False Bay’s north-western corner around the Muizenberg area. Man, we’re lucky to live here.

But before we get to Muizenberg, we first have to make a detour to Zeekoevlei where a friend of ours got married. She chose a stunning location for a stunning event.

Zeekoevlei

Being somewhat bohemian in our ways we were quite happy to overnight in our Kombi (which is fully rigged for camping) and

that gave us a perfect opportunity to explore a bit of the Cape Peninsula the following day.So we started off right at the entrance to the Zeekoevlei reserve where you will find the Gantouw Project. The Gantouw Project is an initiative which aims to increase biodiversity while conserving an endangered

habitat. Gantouw is a derived word from the Khoi meaning “eland path”, a route which the eland and Khoi used to cross the Hottentots Holland Mountains. In essence five eland were introduced into the reserve (from a nature reserve in Wellington) and they will be moved to the other Cape

Flats reserves from time to time once they have become habituated, to reduce the impact of bush encroachment. By doing this they hope to prevent the dominance of a handful of alien species and subsequent loss of vulnerable, endemic flora and fauna.

locals were out in force to enjoy a glorious day at the beach.

Boyes Drive is a mountain road by-pass which runs from Kalk Bay to Lakeside and has panoramic views all the

way for a bird’s eye view of the area.
