Our goal in creating this resource was to support San Francisco’s summer program providers of school-age youth with a tool to help develop curriculum based on a wide variety of subjects and embrace our city as a classroom with incredible learning opportunities through field trips and expeditions. This work was also done in effort to support the State-wide Summer Matters Campaign and National Summer Learning Association with outreach and advocacy about the importance of summer learning. This document was developed for you with heart and passion from current summer providers to support your program in making summer learning enriching and exciting, and decrease summer learning loss for youth in San Francisco. WHO: The Bayview Opera HouseWHAT: Needs Your Input on a New Mural ProjectWHERE: The survey can be found and completed at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YLDZYK6CONTACT: Ivy Anderson, Event and Volunteer Coordinator, Office: (415)824-0386, [email protected]: The Bayview Opera House has teamed up with the San Francisco Department of the Environment to paint a mural that will express our vision for an environmentally sustainable Bayview, and will educate residents about properly disposing of their used motor oil. Since July 2008, over 1,300 cases of illegal oil dumping in D10 have been reported to 311, despite there being many free and legal dumping sites nearby. Illegal dumping is contributing to the already rampant pollution of our district, and we are ready to tackle this issue head on. Once a final location and design are decided upon, muralist Cameron Moberg will teach a 3 week course on mural making with local teens, some of whom will be hired to help him execute the final mural. This will be a great opportunity to engage local youth in the arts, the environment, and the community. We need the community's input on this project. What do our neighbors already know about oil pollution and how to prevent it? Where should this mural be located in order to reach the most people and to stop the biggest offenders? What ideas and imagery should be included in the mural? Can you take 5 minutes to fill out our online community survey? And please pass this link along to your friends and neighbors here in Bayview! We will also be gathering input during our upcoming series of 3rd on Third events, at local high schools, at community events, and out on Third St. To stay updated on this project and the many ways to get involved, leave your name and email at the end of the survey and I will add you to our mailing list. _____________________________________________________________________________________
