R1: Continue to develop, refine the good systems that have been introduced for both strategic and curriculum development;

Systems have continued to evolve and develop with a focus on outcomes for pupils. Improvements since last inspection include:

Improved planning to include LNF skills Improved monitoring of teaching to support the development of moving teachers from good to excellent Improved systems of standardisation and moderation to underpin accuracy of teacher assessment across

the school Improved monitoring of data, lessons, work scrutiny and pupil voice to assess standards and ensure

appropriate progress for all learners

R2: Improve the self-review processes that have been introduced by ensuring there is a more consistent focus on improving standards of learning

Systems are continually updated to improve outcomes for pupils. The systems of self-review were assessed by the local authority, gaining the school bronze, silver and gold self-evaluation award. Improvements include:

Valuing all stakeholders A strong focus upon standards of learning. A strong focus upon standards of teaching Performance management linked closely to standards of learners GB monitoring of school improvement priorities

R3: Improve the quality and consistency of marking across the school and raise pupils’ awareness of their own learning and specific individual targets

A review to policy and staff training has focused on feedback to learners. Work scrutiny demonstrates that all teachers are:

Adhering to school’s marking and feedback policy Marking against clear learning objectives and success criteria Providing appropriate feedback to move pupils on (immediately!) Work scrutiny demonstrates that all pupils are: Self and peer assessing against success criteria Developing their own success criteria Evaluating their understanding Giving opportunities for pupils to set their own targets

Good Progress

Strong Progress

Satisfactory Progress

Limited Progress

Priority 1: To ensure potential attainment in Maths at FP & Key Stage 2 at expected level +1 is met

Measureable Pupil Outcomes:To maintain O6 and L5 at above 50% in Maths in 14/15 Target achieved. Pupils attained 53% O6 and 61% at Level 5. Targeted and appropriate pupil support, improved numeracy planning across the

curriculum and effective differentiation led to ambitious individual targets being achieved. To ensure that L5 Science is commensurate with L5 in Maths in 14/15 This target was not attained. Pupils attained 50% L5 in Science. Two pupils who attained L5 in Maths did not attain L5 in Science. However this was due to literacy skills which

impacted upon their written ability to plan, develop and in particular to reflect at a solid level 5.

Final EvaluationThis target focused staff on the need to plan effectively for the more able pupils. The need address Science at L5 will remain apriority in 2015-16.

Strong Progress

Priority 2: To ensure potential attainment in English at FP & Key Stage 2 at expected level +1 is met

Measureable Pupil Outcomes:To achieve 50%+ O6 2014/15 and 50%+ L5 2014/15

Target achieved.  Pupils attained 53% outcome 6 and 61% Level 5. Targeted and appropriate pupil support, improved literacy planning across the curriculum and effective

differentiation led to ambitious individual targets being achieved. In addition the embedding of the drafting policy, implemented in 2013/14, improved extended writing.

To raise standards in spelling from Year 1 to Year 6 against baseline assessments Target achieved, 83% of pupils improved spelling from baseline test.

Llanrhidian Primary School

Improve standards in extended writing from Year2 –Year 6 to support attainment at level +1 Target improved see above.

Final EvaluationThis target highlighted the effect that ambitious planning has upon standards. Staff are now extremely aware of the need for differentiation, and this has improved as evidenced through work scrutiny and lesson observations. This has also given arise to an awareness of where and how planning for groups of learners can be improved in 2015-16.

Priority 3: To develop and track pupil wellbeing at KS2

To capture measureable data on KS2 pupils in terms of:Teacher assessment of pupil engagement and behaviour

Target achieved using “My Selfie”Pupil self-assessment based on “My Selfie” App

Target achieved using “My Selfie”Total wellbeing score based on VAP and other key indicators

Every pupil has a wellbeing score and intervention for any concern is immediate.

Final EvaluationThis target led to the “My Selfie” system being developed through a PLC. The system is now being rolled out to many schools in Swansea. Staff understanding of how many pieces of data build an effective profile of a child has led to effective and appropriate intervention where necessary.

Good Progress

Priority 4: To improve provision and standards in Welsh

Measurable pupil outcomes:Improved standards for pupils in Welsh at end of KS2 % to improve on 3 year average

Target achieved.  2012-2014 3 year average was 75.5%.  In 2015 this rose to 76%.  (including 1 newbie to Welsh 5.5%)

End of key stage % dropped by 5% in 2015.Improved standards of oracy for pupils in Welsh at end of FP %

Oracy improved across the school but still needs to be a feature of 2015/16 SDP

Llanrhidian Primary School

Staff are striving to improve provision of Welsh across the school. Assemblies, awards and slot drillio are having a positive effect. This will remain a priority for 2015 to embed good practice and further develop Welsh skills across the school.

Priority 5: To improve processes of self-evaluation

Outcomes:Well-developed subject leaders meeting professional standards of teaching and leadership

All teachers are aware of national standards. PM is linked to professional standards. Subject leaders are monitoring more effectively and impact statements from reports feeding directly into position

statements and SDPEnhanced systems of monitoring through middle leadership tier

Achieved – timetable of monitoring establishedFurther develop pupil voice

Pupils evaluated standards, teaching and leadership throughout the school year. A presentation to GB took place in Summer.

Further develop feedback to pupils Marking labels established and INSET on feedback took place with Penclawdd Primary Adds session on enhancing marking labels further developed staff understanding

Final EvaluationStaff are more developed in terms of their own reflection of teaching. More work is needed, however, in developing peer support, involving parents and developing governors. The school has been key in developing ”My Voice” questionnaires which can capture views of stakeholders. This needs to be embedded in 2015-16.
