When people thought that a citizen was dangerous for their democracy, they decided to hold a vote on ostracism. They wrote the name of that citizen down (vote) and when a large number wrote the same name, the dangerous man had to leave Attica within 10 days and stay away for 10 years (exile).

The ancient Greeks used lead to link the pillar pieces, to hold them together.

Lead is a strong metal that can hold pieces together.

In 1821, during the war of Independence, the Turks didn’t have any lead to make bullets…

the monuments were in danger !!!

The Greeks gave the Turks lead to make bullets… …and in this way

they saved the monuments !!!

Of course, in this case, Greeks have prevented lead’s “recycling”…
