TT (Transaction Translator)Even when plugging Full/Low-speed devices into a USB 2.0 hub, data is transferred in High-speed mode between PC and USB 2.0 hub. USB 2.0 hub has a function that converts(translates) High-speed transfer into Full/Low-speed. This translator is called TT. A hub with a TT on each down-stream port is called Multi-TT hub.

Our competitors’ sales pitch:Since Multi-TT has one transaction translator per downstream port it has better performance. For example, in the following configuration, there is no performance problem with Multi-TT, but Single-TT has a performance problem.

Our second objection point:Almost all of these devices have switched to HS USB 2.0 (HS)

Our third objection point:Most web cameras are HS and movingto USB 3.0 (SS)

We need to educate our customers because our competitors’ promotional points for ”Multi-TT” are incorrect

Our first objection point:This usage model was true years ago but is not longer true today. Today, deviceshave switched to USB 2.0 (HS)

Test Condition: FS Flash Memory(Playback Video) + HS Flash Memory + USB Mouse

Our main point is: The advantages of Multi-TT mentioned by our competitors was applicable in the early stages of USB 2.0 when there was a large mix of FS/LS devices. However, today most devices have shifted from USB 1.1 to USB 2.0. Today, multi-TT is unneeded and consumes power for nothing.

We need to educate our customers because our competitors’ promotional points for ”Multi-TT” are incorrect

Low power consumption is a key factor for products that require Energy Star certification and a long battery working life.

Renesas’ emphasis in on conserving power. Devices with Multi-TT burn more power than Single-TT devices andoffer no performance benefits.

Super Fast File Transfer Rate 10X faster than USB 2.0 (480Mbps vs 5Gbps) Faster Sync-and-Go Enables uncompressed 1080p video over USB

Enhanced Power Management for Maximum Power Savings 1/3 the power consumption of USB 2.0 for moving a given

amount of data Interrupt driven, non-polling architecture

Quick Charging for Mobile Platforms More power at the connector (4.5W vs. 2.5W) USB 3.0 : 4.5 watts (900mA) USB 2.0 : 2.5 watts (500mA)

Backwards Compatible with USB 2.0

Why choose Renesas for USB 3.0 (Cont.)?

Renesas spent over one year testing its brand new USB

3.0 Host Controller against a very large matrix of legacy

USB 2.0 devices

The xHCI core is brand new. It is a complete rewrite of

controller behavior and functionality. It does not leverage

any previous generation EHCI or OHCI USB 2.0 cores.

Renesas 5Gbps USB 3.0 SerDes has been tested for over 1.5

years

Every device that goes to the USB-IF is tested with

Renesas' silicon

Already in volume production at approx. 2Mpcs./month

All manufacturing is in-house

All IP (PHY, controller, and software drivers) belong to

Renesas
