Our architectural proessionals created the innovativedesign to t in the natural setting and the surroundingbuilt environment. The dynamic structure is shaped toalign with the specic condition o the gradient beachrontsite, allowing all guestrooms to be equipped with antasticpanoramic ocean views.

Renements made by AECOM during the conceptdesign stage achieved an increase in net electricity outputo seven MW, resulting in what is currently the worldslargest single casing geothermal steam turbine in operation.

Our Asia geotechnical business, based in Hong Kong, hasmore than 400 proessionals and technical sta and isthe largest geotechnical consulting practice in HongKong. Central-Wan Chai Bypass (CWB) and Island EasternCorridor (IEC) Link, Hong Kong, China

CWB is a strategic road link between Rumsey Street Flyoverin Central and the IEC in North Point. The original schemeo CWB comprises a tunnel section rom Central to WanChai and a fyover section rom Wan Chai to IEC overpassingthe existing Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter. In the newroad scheme, the original fyover will be replaced by a deeptunnel underpassing the existing Cross Harbour Tunnel andthe Typhoon Shelter, beore coming up to join the existingIEC near City Gardens. Our project team has been workingwith the government in the past ew years to come up withthe modied scheme o CWB in order to ully comply withthe requirements as stipulated under the Protection oHarbour Ordinance.

Urban Development

Since establishing itsel in Asiaapproximately 40 years ago, AECOM has taken a leadingrole in many mega-scale and iconic urban development

projects in Hong Kong, China and other Asian countries.

Sha Tin and Ma On Shan New Town, Hong KongForty years ago, Sha Tin and Ma On Shan was a ruraltownship o 30,000 people. When a new town developmentproject was instituted in 1970, AECOM engineers werebrought in to drive all major reclamation works, sea andriver walls, site ormation works, storm drainage, sewerage,major roads, bridges, highways, intersections andinterchanges, public transport acilities, landscaping, andall related ancillary works. This new town has a total area oabout 3,600 hectare and provides a balanced developmento housing, industrial and all commercial, recreational and

social acilities or a population o 735,000.

Water

Our experience in planning, designing and managingwater and wastewater engineering acilities around theworld, through the operations that have come together toorm AECOM, dates back more than 100 years. With skillsthat extend beyond technical knowledge, our scientists,engineers and construction managers have the capability towork on any water project around the world.

Our high-level expertise in water, wastewater and waterresources enables us to provide comprehensive solutions orour clients. Through these disciplines, we oer integratedservices or total project delivery, covering everything rominitial easibility studies to detailed design, constructionmanagement, and operations and maintenance training.

Sludge Treatment Facilities, Hong KongAt present, all dewatered sewage sludge generated bysewage treatment works is disposed o at landlls in HongKong. This current practice is not sustainable rom both theenvironmental and technical perspectives. The Hong Kongsludge contains a high content o chloride due to the use o

seawater fushing in most areas o this densely populatedcity. This unique situation has limited the selection o analternative sludge treatment technology.

Ater a detailed evaluation, AECOM engineersrecommended fuidized bed incineration technology as asustainable alternative or sludge disposal or Hong Kong.The design capacity o the Sludge Treatment Facilities (STF)is 2,000 wet tons per day. The STF is to be implementedunder a design-build-and-operate (DBO) contractarrangement and is scheduled to be commissioned by 2014.The capital value o the DBO contract is estimated to beabout HK$5 billion.
