The E6 Series offers numerous advantages inadditionto long life cycles. It provides extremely quiet,low-vibration operation. It minimizes the polygoneffect which can occur during the rolling motion ofan Energy Chain. The ultra-low noise levels havebeen confirmed in a recent report by the RheinlandTechnical Inspection Agency. Our extensive deliveryprogram offers the right chain size for any application;a wide range of interior separators are also available. The same applies to the mounting brackets.

A linear drive provides for highly dynamic feed of PCBs.This system is twice as fast as handling units with atoothed-belt drive; designed to withstand high dynamicloads, the E6 E-Chains® ensure a supply of power, coolantand control data with ultra-low noise and vibration

Life-cycle test of the E6 connector system -more than 220,000,000strokes have been testedsuccessfully so far

Find a video online www.igus.de/AG_Film

Remote condition monitoring system for E-ChainSystems® in large scale applicationsUsed in applications on cranes, material handlingsystems, power plants, chemical plants, etc.,where safe and reliable function is of the essenceand where unplanned down time means highcosts. PPDS online monitoring system monitorsthe push/pull forces of the E-Chain® therebyimproving operational safety. Push-/pull force datais individually pre-determined value. If failures occur, instant alert messages are automatically generated, through e-mail or SMS, and can immediately beanalysed from any remote location. Saved datacan be analysed retro-actively for a period of upto 3 months.

Long travels always place quite exceptional stresseson an E-ChainSystem®. In most cases, guidence isprovided for by means of a guide trough. Forapplications where a guide trough is not desirable.

igus® 1995 developed the AUTO-GLIDE system. Possible uses:● In the case of travels up to 100 m● In the case of travel speeds up to 1.5 m/s

The problem:Suspended E-Chains® can swing sideways due to transverse acceleration.

The solution:New "Guidelok" system. E-Chain® stays on trackeven with high transverse acceleration! When thechain moves over the control button the fixingbutton is moved, the lower run of the E-Chain®

held in place, preventing it swinging out. Forelevators, racking units, material handlingequipment.

No more outward swinging - "Guidelok"Vertical E-Chain® applications up to 80 metres highare increasing all the time, all at high speeds andaccelerations. In next to no time, the E-Chain® canswing outwards and sidewards e.g. towards theshelving. This can lead to damage to the echain orsurrounding structures. igus® has now developed asystem called "Guidelok" where the E-Chain® alwaysremains safely on track even with mast or towerheights of up to 80 metres. The new "Guidelok" system is for vertical E-Chain®

applications with large lifting heights in racking units, elevators, inclined elevators and material handlingequipment. Compact and easy to install, also as aretrofit system, it makes energy and data transfer safein goods warehouses, deep freeze storage, cranesystems or even in wind power plants. Whereaspreviously the suspended E-Chain® was routed in anenclosed groove system or vertically guided usingother similarly completely enclosed solutions, thereis no longer any need for expensive casing of anykind. Thanks to the clever design, the E-Chain® trapsitself again in the new "Guidelok" system.

Catching the E-Chain®

The E-Chain® is suspended in a stainless steel orgalvanised steel guide channel. Two rocker arms -push button and catch button - in the groove, whichare automatically triggered by the radius, fix the chainin place.

Application example: Hanging application in a high-bay storage page 1.20

Chainflex® lasts.Or your money back.Your production processes must remain trouble-free, and that means your energy supply systemstoo. This requires fully reliable operation by allrelevant components, including cables. igus® wasthe first company to develop complete E-ChainSystems®. Chainflex® cables and E-Chains®

are offered together from a single source with asystem guarantee depending on the applicationinvolved Design principles based on knowledgeof cables and exhaustive test Series since 1989prevent machine downtimes at plants all over theworld today.

7 rules for making a good cable

1. Strain-relieved core Empty space arises at the core of the cabledepending on the number and cross-section ofthe conductors. This core space should be filledto the greatest possible extent with a proper rope(not with the usual fillers or dummy wires madeof waste material). This reliably braces the surroun-ding strands and prevents them from sliding intothe middle of the cable.

2. StrandsExperience has shown that the strand structureshould be as flexible as possible. Although verythin individual wires result in very flexible con-ductors, these are highly susceptible to damage.Extensive test Series have helped to determinewhich combination of wire diameter, strand pitchand strand direction optimizes bending resistance.

3. Core insulationInsulating materials must be designed so thatthey do not stick together once inside the cable.Furthermore, the insulation should brace theindividual wires of the cable. For this purpose, weuse only the best PVC and TPE extruded at highpressure and proven in millions of kilometres ofwire forming part of E-Chain® applications.

4. BraidsBraids must have an optimized, short pitch arounda stable, strain-resistant core. To co-exist properlywith the insulating materials, braids must allowmovement over a certain range. Starting from aquantity of 12 cores stranding in bundles shouldbe applied.

5. Inner jacketA gusset-filling, extruded inner jacket should beused instead of low-cost non-woven fabric, filleror tracer. This permits secure longitudinal routingof the braid. It also prevents the braid fromloosening and drifting.

6. Shielding The shield should generally have a taut structurewith an optimized angle of twist about an extrudedinner jacket. Loose, open structures or, worse yet, purely circumferential windings notably reduceelectromagnetic compatibility and can fail easilyas a result of wire breakage. A taut shield braidmakes the underlying wire braid more resistant totorsional strain.

7. Outer jacketAn external jacket made of ideal materials canmeet a wide range of specifications: From UVresistance through low-temperature flexibility andoil resistance to cost-effectiveness. However, allexternal jackets should have the following incommon: Highly resistant to abrasion withoutsticking and highly flexible while still supportive. In addition, all external jackets should be extrudedat high pressure (gusset-filling).

Quality from the igus® laboratory:Tested and proven every day.

Partial view, igus® test-lab:More than 80 tests every day with E-Chains® and Chainflex®-cables

Applications involving high cycle counts, speedsand accelerations or demanding environmentalconditions require proven systems especially whenit comes to E-Chains®, cables, polymer slidebearings and linear systems. igus® regularly con-ducts tests at its own laboratory under realisticconditions. Every year, we conduct more than2,000 tests on E-Chains® and cables, and over5,000 tests on plain bearings. These tests focus

on push/pull forces, friction values, wear rates, drive forces and abrasion under all possibleconditions at diverse speeds. Influential factorslike soiling, weathering, cold and impact areexamined. Tests are also performed on electriccables and hydraulic and pneumatic hoses. Ourlaboratory is at your disposal. Should we lack datafor your application type, we will gladly conducttests according to your requirements.
