Annette

Looking back at the holidays. It was as we expect-ed……

The Christmas dinner we received was great, our boss surpassed herself. It was better than last year and even more than last year. I think we have been good dogs for the past time.

We got lots of presents which we immediately de-molished. When do people start making toys for us that last longer than ten minutes? That’s the reason why we like to discover ourselves which furniture is suitable to play with. Table legs are suitable for sharp-ening our teeth, pillows with fraying are great to floss our teeth but the most fantastic alternative toy is; the shoe from our boss. You can do what you want with it.

Annette | STORY

Page 52: 012015

Annette | STORY

For example; chew on it, run with it, trash it, tatter it and play with it together with your brothers and sisters. And the great thing about it; bosses have a lot of shoes especially our female boss. We think she has some kind of addiction. The choice be-tween which shoe to chew on is sometimes even hard to make……..Enough said about our pres-ents now, because there is more to say about the holidays.

Christmas was cozy. It was not as busy as usual, so we had a day to relax and sleep all-day. That was great but there was one thing we were jealous of. Our bosses have special suites to lay down with, we heard them use the word ‘onesie’…..it looks funny these onesies (if they are named like that)….but we want one too. It matches our way of life. To live life to the fullest and relax whenever possible...

However there is one day in the year when I am not as relaxed as usual.

That is New Year’s Eve. That is the day people have to set of fireworks. It looks great but the sound of it makes me scared. My brother is not afraid, he thinks I am stupid. He thinks I am exaggerating.

A couple of years ago I decided to sit in the bath-room for three days because that was the place In our house where you heard it the least.

Annette| STORY

My bosses wanted me to go out but I refused. The past years my bosses went on a holiday with New Year’s Eve, especially for me. Every year they take me to a place where there are less people, less houses and less fireworks. They take me to the countryside or the seaside. So nowadays I am much more relaxed when fireworks start, I trust my bosses …I know they take good care of me, and they stay with me till it’s over.

The holidays are over now and life is turned back to normal.

We have to rise and shine too early in the morning. If it was up to us we would sleep late.

At least wait till the sun comes up. But I don’t think our bosses like it either. They look different when it’s that early. Their eyes look thick and their hair is a mess, and they are more quiet than usual. The past days we had a lot of rain. I hate rain, my feet get wet and my coat is a mess. But my boss wants me to go out anyway. Why can’t they wait till the rain is over? The good part of it is that when we are back our boss dries us off and that’s like a mas-sage. I love it. Sometimes I dream about living on a tropical island. Where there is sun every day, water to play in and hammocks to lie in. Where we bull-dogs can chill together. Also a bulldog has to have dreams I think.

Page 54: 012015

54 | January 2015| Bullish magazine

Our bosses have all kinds of resolutions for the new year. They start eating healthy and start exer-cising to get in shape again. We look at it and won-der: why bother?. We take you as you are, we love you as you are so have faith in yourself. Take us as an example. We know how to keep the balance. You have to alternate; playing, sleeping, cuddle, exercise, eating and lie on the bench. Then you get the good shape we have. A good chest, round and deep, nice hips; muscular but slim and an im-perturbable gaze. We wonder how long they can keep up the good intentions.

Each year it’s worth a bet. I hope to win this time. Last year they were determined only for two months.

Enjoy life and till next time!!!!!

Born on December 20, 2006, this talented boy earned his first AKC title at just 7.5 months of age and quickly added credentials of all kinds to his portfolio of ac-complishments: Breed Championships, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Lure Coursing, Herding Instinct, Draft, Therapy Work, and Barn Hunt.

At 14 months, we recorded Gabe’s first trick video which was submitted as an entry in the Worldwide Fido Awards. A few months later, Gabe was crowned the Grand Prize Winner during his first TV appearance. The following year he starred in the family comedy, THE DOGFATHER, and has since appeared on Ameri-ca’s Got Talent, Good Morning America and The Late Show With David Letterman. Gabe is a BCA Platinum Ambassador for Health and at 8 years old he contin-ues to learn new skills and add to his fun and impres-sive resume!

Cheryl Knapp

When Jennifer Wolfgang adopted Dixie from the lo-cal SPCA at 4 years of age, she discovered that this was at least her third home. Chez My Dixie Chick, CDX, RAE, CGC CPE-L1 was originally enrolled in a basic “pet” obedience class because she seemed a lit-tle aggressive towards other dogs--little did Jennifer know they’d get hooked on obedience and continue on to advanced titles!

From the first time they entered the ring together when Dixie was 5 years old, until she was in her senior years at the age of 9, Jennifer discovered the amaz-ing “heart and soul” bond that occurs when working side-by-side as a team with your special canine com-panion.

Page 66: 012015

Dixie was High Scoring Obedience dog at the 2006 Bulldog Nationals & went on to make breed history-being the first female bulldog & rescue to earn the Rally *RAE title (right on the tail of the very first RAE Bulldog)!

Jennifer and Dixie competed at the Florida State Obe-dience competition for four years, beginning at the Novice level and progressing all the way to the top level of training--Utility.

She would stay by his side & keep him alert until it resumed a safe level! I’d say this Rescue became The RESCUER in return for the love she received.

*The Rally Advanced Excellent (RAE) title requires a dog to pass both the Rally Advanced and Rally Excel-lent classes, earning 10 sets of qualifying scores.

Why bulldogs?

They are so different to the rest, especially for its look.

When i was 10 years old my dad shown me what is a Bulldog in a book then he told me if i would like to see one in real and i said him of course, then we went a shop so then not internet or websites to know about the breed. When i saw the first bulldog in real in this shop i knew this was my breed. I have to say that this bulldog jumped on me and almost i fallen over, this was a funny moment In the masters level the handler doesn’t even know.

Pet hate?

Bad movement, it is 50% of a dog and normally with good movement there is a nice body, so is balanced.

What single feature would you say is most import-ant?

They all like to sleep a lot!!

If you could choose one dog from the past, which one would it be?

I would say Brampton Mr Douglas, with a dog like this you can have all you wish in a kennel, for me the best stud dog of the history so far of the rest.

Tell us more about your kennel

My kennel is beside my house in a mountain with-out neighbours in 1km. I have 16 Bulldogs in total, the kennel is well built for all they need, automat-ic water circuit, patios of 500m2, individual bed-room and well protected of rain, windy, cold and hot. There is a nursery with all product you need anytime and 2 showers. As well I have almost fin-ish a new kennel for 24 dogs with individual patio for each one with a nursery too and a big ring for training our dogs indoors, where will be the place for summer time

Line breeding or outcross?

Depends what you are looking for

Page 71: 012015

Bullish magazine | January 2015 | 71

Page 72: 012015

72 | January 2015| Bullish magazine

Sometimes if you are looking to keep some type or character or quality to pin up is good to do line breeding like half brother to mate between them, my best producer bitch which has made me 3 champions is coming same grandfather in both sides... but i cant say always best producer are com-ing from line breeding so i have the experience as well of mating with outcross you can get a nice off-spring so when i do out crossing right now in my kennel with few females i look for a dog with simi-lar type, don’t care the bloodline only the type and if what the male has is missing in my bitch, never 2 plus 2 is 4 in his world of breeders but some things are very simple, if there are 2 bulldogs and both are long don’t expect to get short dogs with good top-line

Specialist or all rounder?

Specialist always even they don’t breed your type so they use to have an idea of what is in front their face. All rounder is good for a standard dog with good movement, normally is what they are going to give first, they don’t know the specific things in the breed but use to know what a nice dog is. If i have to choose one of them always specialist so you know what will like and what kind of judge-ment will do but in my experience as shower in ma-ny countries is that some judges called “specialist” get lost during the judgement because forget to follow a type because they don’t know about the breed even they are breeders or they let to

David Martinez Borrell| BREEDER PROFILE

Page 73: 012015

Bullish magazine | January 2015 | 73

a type because they don’t know about the breed even they are breeders or they let to follow for the faces inside the ring. I have seen many judges were judging the best dog in each class even is not his type, this is the kind of judge are not blind and always judging the best dog and not only his type and de-stroy the judgment, this is the kind of judge will have always many entries so will not care what bloodline you have in your kennel.

TheoK | JUNIORS

The first dog handling competition for children at a formal dog show was held in 1932 at the Westbury Kennel Club Show in Long Island, New York, in the United States.

In 1933 the Westminster Kennel Club in New York offered a children’s handling class, and prizes were established in the names of early promoters of chil-dren’s events, Leonard Brumby, Sr, and George F. Fo-ley. The American Kennel Club recognized Junior Showmanship as a dog show class in 1971.

Today, major Junior Showmanship competition is offered worldwide through Fédération Cynologique Internationale clubs,as well as through the Kennel Club (UK) The Canadian Kennel Club, The American Kennel Club,The United Kennel Club (US),as well as similar clubs. Other show-giving dog clubs and busi-nesses may also offer Junior Showmanship events.

“I want to train my dog Lucy. Where do I start?”

Doris Boyd answers: “Bring Lucy into your kitchen. Put the leash on but drop the end of the leash on the floor. This is training but she does not know it. Put some treats over on the table or counter. Tell her to Wait. Use your normal voice. Do not act like she is to rrspond in any way. Tell her wait and when she looks at you, reach over and take a piece of the treat and very gently give it to her.

Do not talk ...do not say good girl. just keep doing what you’re doing. You can train her in your kitch-en, teach her that listening to you is fun and reward-ing. Just use the word “wait” and use it quietly. Do this over and over until it is second nature to her. Make it fun and one of the most important things you can do is, speak softly and use a gentletouch. Do not play while training.

Do not put the treats in your pocket. Leave them on the table. She will learn to wait while you reach for her treat. It does not seem like much but the in-ner action will instill confidence in herself. All the stacking and training in the ring will be easier if she knows it is fun, just being with you. Be patient...good luck”

GAIT / MOVEMENT: (FCI Standard)

“Appearing to walk with short, quick steps on tips of toes, hind feet not lifted high, appearing to skim ground, running with one or other shoulder rather advanced. Soundness of movement of the utmost importance”

A dog that lifts it forelegs too much (like a Lipizzan-er horse) cannot walk or is not walking with short quick steps, is unsound and highly undesirably in my opinion. Structurally something is wrong.

Thats all I have to say.
