The Transport Strategy inour development consentapplication has considered manyoptions for the transportationof construction and excavatedmaterial.Whilst developing our strategy we have taken into accountfeedback received from neighbouring residents and London-wide transport groups, allowing us to minimise and manage thepotential impact on local communities.

Our strategy prioritises river transport at sites wherever it is practical and cost e ective to doso. This allows us to reduce the potential pressure on Londons road network by moving morematerial by river. Rail transport was considered as an option but was not deemed a coste ective solution at any of the construction sites.

Over the lifetime of the project 4.8 million tonnes of material could practically be moved byriver. It is assumed that at least 4.2 million tonnes, or 90 per cent of this, will be transportedby river at the 11 riverside construction sites. This is to allow for some exibility when rivertransport may be unavailable or unsuitable. However, construction contractors will beencouraged to achieve as close to 100 per cent as possible.
