The All Share Price Index gained 56.5 points (+0.9%) to close at 6,432.5 points

whilst the S&PSL20 index rose 34.4 points (+1.0%) to close at 3,577.9 points.

Turnover recorded LKR2,427.4 mn (USD18,629.3k) vs the 12 month daily

average turnover of LKR839.7 mn (USD6,444.4k) while 174,752.5k shares were

traded for the day vs the 12 month average daily volume of 41,616.0k. A large

net inflow was recorded where foreign purchases stood at LKR1,687.7 mn

(USD12,952.4k) whilst foreign sales were LKR31.4 mn (USD241.0k). Top

traded counters were Hemas Holdings LKR1,560.3 mn (USD11,974.7k,

+3.2%), PCH Holdings LKR192.1 mn (USD1,474.3k, +16.7%), Chevron

Lubricants LKR71.4 mn (USD548.0k, +1.3%), John Keells Holdings LKR50.4

mn (USD386.8k, +1.7%), and Orient Garments LKR31.3 mn (USD240.2k,

+40.4%).

The broader market rose well above the 6,400 level aided by the largest gain of

near 57 points witnessed since 17th

April 2014. Meanwhile the market turnover

continued to be strong for the 4th

consecutive day backed by a stake change in

diversified Hemas Holdings where the counter reached a 52-week high of

LKR45.9. Hemas Holdings saw a parcel of 33.5 mn shares (c.6.6% stake)

changing hands between a foreign buyer and a local seller to contribute c.63%

to the market turnover. Moreover local investors were active on diversified PCH

Holdings and related party, Orient Garments. The latter rose by LKR7.8 to

close at LKR27.1 just after reaching a 52 week high of LKR27.6. Moreover the

foreign favourites, John Keells Holdings and Chevron Lubricants continued

to be attracted by foreign buyers during the day. The latter reached an intra-day

high of LKR304.00.

The market shot up due to many of the large caps such as John Keells

Holdings, Commercial Bank and Ceylon Tobacco gaining in price whilst

further aided by the positive sentiment in the overall market. Foreign buying

interest triggered the sentiment (contributing 70% to the market turnover)

although locals were mainly on the selling side during the trading session.

Counters such as Commercial Bank (Voting), Nations Trust Bank, Three

Acre Farms, Softlogic Holdings, The Finance (Voting) reached 52 week

highs during the day. Meanwhile Commercial Bank (Non-Voting) saw selling

pressure from off-shore investors, although recording a near 0.5% gain during

the day.

The fiscal deficit at 3.5% of GDP as at YTD April 2014… The fiscal deficit during the period of January to April 2014 saw a marginal YoY

increase to LKR347 bn, however to record low of 3.5% of GDP (vs 3.9% of GDP

in January to April 2013).

Japan leads loan commitments to Sri Lanka up to April 2014 02 Jul, 2014 12:29:36

July 02, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka has signed up 678.2 million US dollars in foreign loans in the first four months of 2014 and Japan led the tables giving 342.8 million US dollars for a new bridge to the capital, official data showed. A mid-year fiscal report showed that China Development Bank committed 300 million US dollars for a road building and the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development has loaned another 10 million US dollars. Japans yen denominated loan (35 billion yen) came at a fixed interest rate of 0.10 percent, a 0.2 percent one time front end fee, 10 year grace period and 40 year payback. The loan from China came at 295 basis points above 6-month US dollar London Interbank Offered Rate, with 3-year grace and 15.5 years payback.

Sri Lanka budget deficit 3.5-pct of GDP up to April 02 Jul, 2014 07:10:59

July 02, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's has recorded a budget deficit of 3.5 percent of gross domestic product up to April 2014, and the Treasury said it was expecting to meet a full-year target of 5.2 percent. The state extracted 8.5 percent more taxes from the people to 310.5 billion rupees in the first four months from a year earlier, and total revenues rose 11.5 percent to 345.0 billion rupees, the finance ministry said in a mid-year report. Non-tax revenues picked up 48 percent to 34.4 billion rupees from 23.1 billion rupees, despite lower central bank transfers. Current spending rose 6.5 percent to 498.9 billion rupees, leaving a revenue deficit of 153.9 billion rupees, lower than the 159.0 billion rupees last year Capital and lend lending was higher by 4.5 percent to 193.8 billion rupees and the overall deficit was 347.7 billion rupees 01 percent higher from a year earlier. After deducting grants it was 347 billion rupees.

Sri Lanka Treasuries yields steady 02 Jul, 2014 13:16:29

July 02, 2014 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Treasuries yields were marginally down at Wednesday's auction though the debt office did not accept market bids to roll over all the offered volume, data showed. The 3-month yield fell 01 basis point to 6.50 percent, the 6-month yield fell 01 basis point to 6.68 percent and the 12-month yield fell 02 basis points to 6.97 percent. The office sold 1.5 billion rupees of 3-month bills, 1.0 billion rupees of 6-month bills and 6.8 billion rupees of 12-month bills totaling 9.4 billion rupees.

of GDP (vs 3.9% of GDP in January to April 2013). The figure which has been edging lower continuously throughout 2010-2013 from 8%

levels to below 6% levels (5.9% in 2013). Meanwhile the Ministry of Finance expects it to further decline to 5.2% in 2014E as per the

Budget 2014 given the measures taken to increase tax revenues by revising tax rates, implementing new taxes, expected improvement

in the business climate with lower lending rates together with closer monitoring of public expenditure management within overall

budgetary ceilings. However we expect the budget deficit to be kept at 5.8% of GDP in 2014E.
