To whom it may concern: The following is an explanation of the design intent and philosophy for the above-mentioned project: Cascadia Healthcare is pleased to submit an application for a ground up 100-bed skilled nursing facility located directly south of the St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. The purpose of the project is to provide a new, modern skilled nursing facility to support the growing need of post-acute in-patient (24/7) care in the City of Boise. The proposed structure is a single story, type VA construction approximately 52,300 square feet comprised of three buildings connected with enclosed pedestrian walkways. The main, central building houses the support areas for the patient wings located on either side, including the main lobby, administrative offices, rehab department, and back of house services (dietary, laundry, maintenance, etc.). The adjacent patient wings are designed to accommodate 60-beds in the Long Term Wing and 40- beds in the Short Term Wing. The pedestrian walkways connect the main public corridor directly to each of the Nurse Stations on the Patient Wings. In addition, there are pedestrian walkways that connect the back of house service corridors to each wing. The Main Building Upon entering the lobby, the public & visitors are greeted by the receptionist, with a waiting area and accessible public toilets within reach. The central nursing core includes the necessary services in addition to providing a staff conference roomand doctor lounge for staff use. With the service corridor connected by the pedestrian walkway, cleanand soiled linens, supplies and food can be transported to and from the main building, keeping the livingroom clear and open to the corridors.

The Patient Room

Patient rooms are a combination of 20 Private and 40 Semi-Private rooms. Each room is equipped withan accessible toilet, sink and roll in-shower. Natural light is provided from both ends, thru the exteriorwindows and thru the central courtyards. A majority of the rooms are directly visible from the NurseStations.

The GM+A Design Philosophy

Our design philosophies that we emphasize in our skilled nursing facilities, includes our understanding ofthe importance of circulation patterns, natural light, connection to nature, and the functional purpose ofthis building type to provide patient care.

Our goal is to provide a comfortable, secure and efficient layout for the staff, patients and public visitors. Inherently, with over 25 years of observations and experience with this building type, we have learnedwhen we design a building to help the staff with their workflow, thru efficient design, it allows them tospend more time with the patients providing a higher quality of care.
