What did you learn?
Learning Objectives
Evaluate your level of understanding of the Unit Two vocabulary.
Create a Concept Map that shows relationships among the concepts discussed in Unit Two. (Note: This is Question 5 of Project #2)
Unit 2: Main Topics How are we changing the
Environment? What is the deal with ozone? What can we do with ozone? What is the Greenhouse Effect? What is the problem with Global
Warming? What is the problem with Acid
Rain?

Introduction to Concept Maps
This is a concept map about the big idea of concept maps!
What is notable about this concept map?
Have you made a concept map?
How do you think concept maps might be used?
Elements of a Concept Map
– Concepts – words that can be objects, feelings, attitudes, actions
• Examples: love, war, peace, soft, helpful, hateful, enjoyable, octopus, microbes, bottle, rain, storm, making friends,
– Propositions (Ideas) – short, complete sentences formed by connecting multiple concepts
• Hate leads to unhappiness., Peace is serenity., Money is happiness., Diamonds are hard., Lectures can be boring., Friends are fun., Germs can kill., Wind can move boats., Cans are made of metal., Need drives acquisition., Haste makes waste.
Concept Maps are a way of relating important concepts to each other in an organized format.
Concept Maps
Exothermic Processes
Energy
Endothermic Processes
bond forming
bondbreaking
Consider these related concepts: Energy, Endothermic Processes, Exothermic processes,
Bond breaking, Bond forming.

What have you learned?
Here is a sampling of some of the concepts we have discussed in this Unit 2:
How are they related?
Topic: Building a
PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICH
Follow along and copy onto a piece of paper. (I’ll use the CMAP tools!)
Let’s Build a Concept Map!
peanut butter, peanut butter jar, jelly, jelly jar, bread, knife
There is a short video demonstration located at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrloTLWAgF8&feature=related
Download the free software to begin exploring the value of concept maps as powerful teaching and learning tools:
