The Chalice
A publication of First Christian Church of Edmond, OK
CONNECTIONVol. 5 No. 19 May 16, 2013
This Sunday
is Pentecost
and it is always
an excitingtime for the
church. As you
know, it has
traditionally been called the birthday
of the church, as it celebrates that day
when the church received the power
of the Holy Spirit. Well be reading
from the 2nd chapter of Acts as Peter
led an excited congregation that could
suddenly understand one another,
whether they were speaking the samelanguage or not.
Thats the wonderful gift of the
Spirit. It allows us to speak the same
language. Often times we do not
really hear each other. Either were not
listening, or we simply cant understand
where the other person is coming
from. There are times when I speak
to people and wonder where in the
world they got those strange notions. But then the Spirit opens my mind. It
brings us together. It allows us to come
to Christs table with others who may
disagree, but the bond of Christs love
draws us together as one.
I love the message of one of
our founders, Barton Stone. His
devotion to unity was so strong that
he felt like any time we are not united
as Christians, we are sinning before
God. He lived much of his life andministry disappointed in how often we
Christians let issues, even important
issues, divide us.
So come this Sunday to celebrate
the gift that draws us togetherThe
Holy Spirit.

We are looking for several volunteers to do the words on Sundays at 9:00 and possibly the 11:00 services. The timecommitment is two hours on the Sunday that you serve. If we get enough volunteers, you may only have to do it once every sixweeks. Existing Tech Crew volunteers will provide you with plenty of training, so dont worry about not knowing what to do.
This is a fun way to serve! It is rewarding job that helps each member of the congregation in worship. If interested, pleasecontact Frank Gresh [email protected] or by phone at (405) 417-1977.
