TACOMA NOTES CONTINUES: MILB PCL PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Tacoma Rainiers catcher Mike Zunino was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Month for April by the office of Minor League Baseball. Zunino finished April ranked among the PCL leaders in slugging percentage (1st, .767), OPS (1st, 1.205), total bases (T1st, 56), home runs (T1st, 7), batting average (2nd, .397), hits (T2nd, 29), extra base hits (T2nd, 13), RBI (T2nd, 22), runs (T3rd, 18), and on-base percentage (6th, .438). He hit a home run in 5 consecutive games from April 13-18, setting a career-best mark. The power streak earned him PCL Player of the Week honors for April 7-17. Zunino’s .397 batting average in April was the best monthly mark for a Tacoma qualified batter since Jesus Montero hit .493 for the club through 17 games in July 2015.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RHP Dylan Unsworth was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week, May 2-8. Unsworth started against Jacksonville on Thursday, May 5, taking a no-hitter into the 7th to earn his 2nd victory of the season. Overall he allowed only 2 hits and 1 walk over 7.0 scoreless innings to earn the victory. Unsworth retired the first 17 batters he faced before issuing a walk, and J.T. Riddle’s 1-out single in the 7th was the first Jacksonville hit. Over his last 3 starts, Unsworth has combined to give up just 1 run on 14 hits over 19.2 innings while walking 3. His 0.92 ERA ranks 2nd in the Southern League to Tennessee’s Paul Blackburn. This is Unsworth’s 2nd Pitcher of the Week Award in his career. He earned one previously in 2014 with the High Desert Mavericks of the California League. It is the first weekly honor for a Generals’ player this season.
