The Art of Embodying

Now it’s time for your challenge for the month of the art of embodying. What I want you to understand is that this is a daily practice. I want you to give up this idea that you’re going to get there. It’s just something that you get to choose to do on a daily basis. Some days you’re going to do amazing and then some days not so much. That is okay. This is called life. What I will tell you and you’ll hear me say this many times, you get good at what you practice. I’ve given you some suggestions of how you can practice the art of embodying on a daily basis.

Let me just pull up our worksheet here. The first thing that I suggest that you do is to start out your day with embodiment. One of the ways that I love to do this is through journaling. I love to go to that place of it already being done and just journal from that place, from that energy. I love the life that I’ve created. I love the impact that I get to have on the world. I love my team. I love where I live. I love my friends. I feel so fortunate. I feel so blessed. I get to do incredible things. I am building a life that I love every single day. Money flows to me easily. I know how to manage money like a boss, like all of those things, I just write down. I love taking care of my body. It is easy for me to choose foods that feel good in my body.

I began to practice the thoughts that will create the feelings that I want to have simply through a journal practice. Every morning, I just want you to play around with this concept. Number one, it’s so much fun because it gets you into a certain feeling state. When you start your day out on the right foot, you’re so much more likely to continue your day in that trajectory. First thing you do, every single morning, is what I call embodied journaling. Go into that place of it already being done and just allow yourself to write from that place.

The second thing that I want you to pay attention to on a daily basis are your words. I want you to practice being impeccable with your words. This is actually the first agreement of the Four Agreements, which is a book I really, really love and if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. But being impeccable with your words is making sure that you are thinking and then speaking from that place of it already being done. An example is at our team meeting, I spoke from the end. I said, by this time next year, here’s what we’re celebrating. I was very intentional in the words that I spoke, the energy that I brought into that room. I tapped into my confidence. I practice believing in myself and then speaking from that place.

What we often do is we get caught up in what is happening right now and our skewed perception of it and then we speak matching our current reality. I want you to practice speaking in the direction of your dreams. Speaking from that place of your prayers already been answered. Imagine what you would be saying when you’re meeting up with girlfriends. You’d

probably be saying things like, I love my life. Life is incredible. I’m so proud of what I’ve created or what I am creating. You would speak from a place of already being there. Just notice if your words do not match up with where you’re going. And this is something that you all even get to practice within our forum, if you’re in the Facebook group. Are you showing up as the woman you want to be or are you staying stuck in these cycles of thinking and feeling and being? I think the forum is a great place to start showing up and embodying the woman you’re becoming. Just pay attention to your daily words and I want you to practice being impeccable with them.

The third thing that I want you to pay attention to when it comes to your daily practice of embodying, is your dress. I want you to think about the woman in your future and how she shows up in terms of her style on a daily basis. Now, y’all know I love style. I personally believe that style has the ability to transform us as women because everything is energy. There’s something powerful that happens when a woman dresses in a way that represents the woman she wants to be. Now I’ve seen it also cause that cognitive dissonance of she sees herself and she’s been believing for so long that this isn’t who she is, that there is discomfort, but over time she literally becomes that woman that she sees in the mirror. It’s happened to me so many times.

I remember when I was working with a stylist in New York and she put an outfit on me and it was actually really conservative. It’s sort of crazy to think about now, but in my mindset that I had back then, it was way too tight. It was very, what’s a good way to say this? It just didn’t feel like who I was. Then I thought about the woman I wanted to be and she absolutely would wear that dress and rock it. I bought the dress and I wore it for years to the point that when I put it on, I sort of laughed at myself that I was so uncomfortable in it the first time I put it on. That is the act of embodying our dreams is through dressing up for our dreams, like dressing for the life you want, not the one you have right now.

Now I know some of you are thinking, well Tanya, that’s easy for you to say, but I need to lose some weight. I need to have more money. I don’t have time. I’ve got kids. You have all of these excuses as to why you can’t do it. But what I know is that no matter what situation you’re in right now, you can begin to dress the part. You don’t have to go out there and buy expensive clothing. You don’t have to spend a ton of time on it. It’s about intention. It might be putting on an accessory, it might be taking the time to do your hair or your makeup. But when I think about the woman that I want to be, she dresses like a woman in love with her life. She dresses like a woman that respects herself.

For me, I could easily hang out in my pajamas until 4:00 PM and no one would know, except the UPS man. But I know. When I think about a woman running a successful company who has reached a million women and more, and who has a team that she’s leading, she does not wear her pajamas until 4:00 PM and is stinky, right? She shows up for herself. How I feel when I’m by myself and no one’s around, I still believe that it impacts the world because I’m putting content out there, I’m coaching clients. Even more I’m realizing it impacts me and how I feel.

Because of that, it impacts what I’m putting out into the world, even though you may not see me.

I want you to begin to practice dressing the part. Dressing for your future. Dressing for the woman who has $1,000,000. Dressing for the woman who’s found the love of her life, who is a bestselling author, who is running a successful company, who is like the most amazing mom. Whatever your dreams and goals are, are you dressing like a woman who’s already living them?

The fourth thing that I want you to be practicing on a daily basis is acting the part. I want you to pretend that I have written out a script. I’ve gone with you into the future. I can see you living the life that you dream of living. And I’m able to get inside of your head and see how you think. See how you feel. I can see how you’re showing up, how you are in relationships, how you are in your business and how you navigate challenging situations and I write it all out for you. I hand the script to you and I say, okay, go forth and practice your script on a daily basis to the point that you no longer need the script. That is how we create our dreams.

A lot of you, you start to practice the script and then the old self comes in that says, who do you think you are? This is not going to work. You are such a fake. You’re never going to get there. You don’t have what it takes. A lot of you allow that to stop your journey, but you have to realize that is part of the old tape. The new script contains none of that. The new script is like, you are 100% worthy. You have exactly what it takes. You are amazing and you’re doing amazing things in this world. You are not a fake. You are an authentic expression of your deepest dreams and desires. Keep going. You’ve got this, right. You get to decide which one you practice on a daily basis and whichever one you choose to practice the most is what you’re going to get the best at. Why not practice things that feel good? That are in alignment with what it is that you want so that you can become a match for what you want.

Now, for some of you, if not all of you, because it’s definitely been me, the old tape is so familiar and so ingrained in your brain, it is going to be uncomfortable to step into the unfamiliar, even though the unfamiliar contains everything that you want to experience in this lifetime. I like to think you have to be greater than your old self. You have to be greater than your thoughts. You have to be greater than your current experience, in order to create what it is that you want. This is where I think we just get to go to this imaginary land because we’re imagining all of it anyway, so why not go to the fantasy land that is supportive of who you want to be as a woman and we get to play and creating ourselves. The way you do that is by practicing it on a daily basis.

Now, I know some of you are like Tanya, I get it intellectually. I get this all at the time. I get it intellectually.

But it’s hard and yeah, it’s hard, but what’s harder staying where you are or having the courage

and the boldness to step into who you want to be? It is going to take effort to reprogram those neural pathways, but again, with practice you will create completely new ones that are in alignment with what it is that you want.

The final thing that I want you to be practicing on a daily basis is navigating your challenges through your embodied self. Now I know that some of you think that when you finally get there that life is going to be rainbows and unicorns and daisies and puppies and babies and all is well. But here’s what you have to know. Even when you create your dream, you’re still going to have challenges. There are still going to be obstacles. You’re going to have days where you don’t feel good. You’re going to have days where you feel frustrated. Even then, you get to respond from your embodied self.

I used to believe that when I got to where I am today that I would have no more problems. Now that I’m here, I have just as many, if not more because now I’m managing a team and I have a lot of responsibilities that I didn’t have back then. The difference is, now I just realize, okay, nothing’s gone wrong. This is exactly what’s supposed to happen. I have the tools to navigate them. The way I do this is I think about me being fully embodied and how she thinks, how she feels, how she shows up in those tough situations and every one of those challenges is now an opportunity for me to practice that embodiment.

An example that happened recently is I had to let someone go in the company and it felt terrible. I didn’t like it and yet I saw me sitting in this grand vision of myself as a CEO and she really lets people go when it’s not a good fit. She has the courage to have those tough conversations. She has the courage to say, you know what, part of this was my responsibility. I did not give you the tools to be successful and I’m going to own that. That was the conversation that I had and it was such a beautiful opportunity for me to handle a challenge from a place of embodiment. I learned so much about what I will do in the future.

I want you all to realize that even though you’re embodying, you’re still going to have challenges, but you can address those challenges from your embodied state. How does she handle it? How does she show up in it? How is she thinking about it? Practice that. When your husband doesn’t take out the trash, you get to practice being embodied. When your kids are all having a meltdown, you still get to practice addressing and responding from the woman you want to be. When you don’t get the clients that you had hoped to get for this month, you get to go to that place of when you are in a place where you’ve got a waiting list, like what does that woman tell you? Is she telling you to freak out? Is she telling you it’s never going to work? No, because she’s already there. She knows it’s going to work, so let her coach you. She’s going to tell you, honey, it’s okay. Let’s look at what worked and what didn’t work. What could you have done? What can you do next month? She’s going to coach you through it from that place of already being there.

Another example is around weight loss. If you over eat or the scale doesn’t go down, go to that

place of, you’ve already lost the weight. What does she tell you? Does she tell you just to throw it all away and create this crazy story of how you fallen off the wagon and you might as well go and eat the whole bag of chips? No. She’s like, it’s okay. You learn. Let’s figure out why you overate so that we can do better next time. You’re still amazing. You’re still going to get there. I love you so much. This is part of the journey.

What I’m saying, in relationship to challenges, is that you can use your embodied self when you’re not embodied. Does that make sense? On those days when I’m freaking out or I made a mistake, I can then step into my embodied self to coach me through that because she’s already there. She is seeing it from a completely different perspective and from her wisdom and her coaching, I can get back into my embodied state. You’re going to have challenges. You’re not always going to be embodied. That’s okay. That’s part of it. It’s noticing when you are out of alignment and then using the version of you that is in alignment to get you back in there.

This month is all about the practice. The practice of embodying the woman you want to be. I want you to start your day off journaling from that place of you already being there because there is no there. Let’s just face it. There’s only here. Let’s expand the experience of here by embodying the woman who’s already created what it is that you want. Start your day off in that feeling state of abundance and love and joy and excitement and passion or whatever it is that you want to feel.

The second thing is to be impeccable with your words. Do your words speak against you or for you? Do they speak against your dreams or for your dreams? I want you to align your speech with what it is that you want.

The third thing is to dress the part. Dress and show up in your life on purpose.

The fourth one is to act the part. You’ve been handed the script, all you’ve got to is practice. You’re going to mess up on the lines. You’re not always going to get them right, but with practice you will. It’ll just become who you are, you become that character.

Finally, use your embodied self to help you navigate those challenges that you are going to have. It’s just part of life. Go to that place of you already being there and let her coach you. This is going to be such a powerful month if you do the work. If you do the practice. This is where we get to take it from intellectual to experience, because when you experience something in your body, that’s when the change starts to happen. This month, commit to practicing the art of embodying.
