SELECTING THE RIGHT LAWYER Hopefully you never need the services of a motorcycle injury attorney, BUT if you ever do, unless you are represented by an attorney experienced in this complicated area of the law, you will be at a distinct disadvantage when having to deal with an insurance company or insurance company attorneys. Over the years we have we have recovered substantial amounts of money for our clients in counties throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We have references and our clients overwhelmingly say they are happy without services. Results are important and examples of our injury recoveries include:

INSURANCE COMPANY PAYS $2,600,000.00 IN PENNSYLVANIA

INSURANCE COMPANY PAYS $1,750,000.00 IN NEW JERSEY

First off I want to thank all of you that visit my website monthly and make a resource for information on what is happening in the area. With your support we have hit that magic number that I’ve been waiting for ... 1,000,000 HITS! The website has been growing steadily over the years, providing you a resource for your bike connection. I’m always open to your comments so if you have

any suggestions please let me know on how I can improve this magazine or the website.

We’re in the last month of summer so I hope that you are taking advantage of the beautiful weather and getting a lot of riding in. With the economy the way it is many of us have had to cancel or postpone some of our usual vacation plans. We won’t be spending a week at the Jersey shore as we have in the past. Staying close to home has been called a “Staycation”, where you spend the time on day trips or just hang out at the pool in the back yard.

I like what Dean’s Harley-Davidson put in their ad this month, “Don’t Staycation this summer ... PLAYcation.” We have an excellent way to spend our free time by just getting on our bikes and heading out for some fun. It can be fun to head off in a direction you’ve never gone and look for a tourist location along the way. Riding a motorcycle is low cost but the fun we get is priceless. So, if you can’t afford a week at the shore jump on the bike and take a Playcation!

Finally, for years I’ve been riding up and down Route 100 between Emmaus & Boyertown and have seen Jake’s Flea Market on the side of the road. This weekend flea market has been going on for longer than I can remember and it’s a great location. I’ve often thought it would make a great place for a bike event. Well that is happening on August 2th beginning at :00am, as flea markets usually open early for the bargain hunters.

I received a phone call from “Batman” at the Underground Biker that a number of clubs are getting together to host a Motorcyclist’s Recognition Day at Jake’s. This will be a ride in bike show/parts & swap meet. I have the feeling that this is going to be the start of a great event. So join us on August 2th, check out the bikes, find some bargains, enjoy the music and join in the fun. I’ll see you there!

It Was A Slow StartBut the McDonald’s Bike Night are backStory & photos by Norm Keller

With the first two McDonald’s Bike Nights being cancelled due to bad weather it seemed that 2011 series of bike nights may not happen. Not so ... On June 26th at the Route 222 McDonald’s in Trexlertown, PA hundreds of people and bikes showed up to participate in this annual event.

Hosted by 99.9 the Hawk radio station and local McDonald’s owners, this event raises mon-ey to support the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. All proceeds go to that cause! As the bikes lined up the judging began and the evening was under way.

The selection of motorcycles and trikes was totally awesome, including one trike that was made from a Chevy Pick-Up truck. That’s right, the rear truck bed made the back of the trike and the truck headlights were seen from the side of the massive bench seat. Needless to say this was a crowd pleaser. I saw this trike coming up behind me as I went down Rt. 309 on my way home and it was a strange thing to see going down the road to say the least.

Ronald was on hand taking photos and doing some magic tricks for his younger fans. I was able to secure a signed photo to give to my two granddaughters, Trinity and Alex, which made me a big hit!

There were other bike night in July at Routes 191 & 22 in Bethlehem and the 25th Street Shopping Center in Easton, PA. All events were well attended and it seems like they just get more people with

every event. August 21st will be at Cedar Crest Blvd. in Allentown & August 28th at Route 873 in Schnecksville. These events start at 4:00pm and go to 6:00pm. There is a make up date on August 14th, check www.999thehawk.com for more information.

The GRAND FINALE will be at the South 4th Street McDonald’s in Allentown on September 25th. You won’t want to miss that one, it’s going to be tons of fun! See you at McDonald’s and remember to tell them, you read about it in the East Coast Biker magazine.

The Dogg House Meets Jimenez CycleGood friends makes for good timesStory & photos by Norm Keller

The best part of publishing this magazine is meeting new people and making new friends. This month’s cover provides that and more. When I got an email from Nick, the owner of the Dogg House Pub in Nesquehoning and a photo of Jackie, one of his waitresses, who wanted to be on the cover of the magazine I was more than happy to oblige.

The Dogg House opened in 2008 in a town with name that most people might have trouble pronouncing but if you found your way there you’d be happy that you did. Their specialty is steaks sandwiches and wings, the “best in the area” and they include daily specials. The food is good and reasonably priced plus the offer catering services. The Dogg House is a biker friendly establishment and they make you feel like you’re one of the family so stop by and check them out, you might also want to talk to them about including them in your next poker run. Owners Nicholas Sr., Debbie, Nicholas Jr. & Christopher Cuono will provide you with a full menu and they are a great location for parties and weddings too.

A pretty girl is only the beginning of a cover shoot, we needed a bike too. Nick solved this by putting me in touch with Jeff Jimenez from Jimenez Cycle located in Wind Gap. The shop is located behind his house on the “main drag” so they are easy to find and there’s always someone there just “hanging out” and talking bikes or custom cars.

Jeff provided us with one of his bikes, an ‘84 Harley-Davidson FLHS Shovelhead “Bagger”. This custom bike was built for ease of maintenance and ride, it boasts a kick-start only with an open primary drive and a 1340cc Shovelhead engine. There is no electric in the handlebars or on the tank ... No gauges, no indicator lights, no turn signal. It is a minimalist approach to a classic looking bike.

The fishtail exhausts are “ridiculously loud” according to Jeff. With 18’ ape hanger handle bars and a unique paint job this bike is certainly a head turner when you hear it coming down the road.

As I looked over the bikes Jeff had to offer I couldn’t take my eyes off of a blue ‘55 Harley-Davidson FL Panhead. This bike is owned by William Kelsey (Bill Kels) and is featured in this months centerfold. Bill has owned this bike for over 45 years and logged over 200,000 miles on it, that’s a lot of riding. I asked Bill if he would adopt me and put my name in his will for the bike but I think he has other plans.

I’d like to thank Jackie, Nick, Jeff and Bill for taking time out of their day to do the photo shoot, I enjoyed myself and I hope you enjoy these photos and reading about them. Be sure to stop in at the Dogg House Pub or Jimenez Cycle when you’re in the area and don’t forget to mention that you read about them in the East Coast Biker.

Trace Adams Benefit Poker Run Story & photos submitted by RoxAnne Franklin, Co-Chair - Doug Snyder Co-Chair - Kyna Steinmeyer Volunteer Extraordinaire!

Not even gray skies and a quickie down pour could put a damper on the outpouring of support for Trace Adams and his wife Connie, as more than 80 bikes and over 150 people rolled into Stop #1, Doug's Pub and Grub, to register for the Trace Adams Benefit Poker Run this past Sunday, June 12, 2011.

Registration was from 11am –noon at Famous Doug’s Pub and Grub on route 209 in Elizabethville, PA. The weather was looking real good at this time. The last stop was at the Erdman Gun Club, so by 1:30 the volunteers were over getting the food ready and setting up when the dark clouds came over and left a heavy down pour for about 15 minutes.

The look of frustration and all those months of preparation left us asking “Why now?” Then the rain stopped and the sun came out again. The bikes started to arrive, the volunteers got the food ready and serving while DJ “Huffy the Clown” put the music on and we were ready to party! So the rain held us up about 15 minutes and actually helped us out by cooling the area down at the Erdman Gun Club.

It’s now about 3:00pm, the food is ready (Chicken Barbeque was the main course), they were selling arm length and leg length strips of tickets for door prizes and the poker winning hand received $125.00 while the Loosing hand got $25.00, so there was a lot going on and the pavilion filled up fast.

Everyone was laughing and having a good time while DJ Huffy had everyone rockin’ and rollin’ to some good old rock tunes like Dr Feelgood. As everyone partied on, Trace Adams made a special visit and was greeted with a huge standing ovation. Great people, Great food, Great fun! Thanks everyone!

Due to the many volunteers, and riders (both bikes and cars) and the donations we received we were able to raise over $5,000.00 for Trace and his wife. We would like to send a special thank you to all of you who attended this event and helped to make it a huge success. Your kindness and generosity was overwhelming.

A special thank you to C.J. Pony Parts of Harrisburg, PA for their generous donation of T-Shirts and the check they provided towards the benefit for Trace. We have no words to describe the tremendous impact this had on our cause. During our Raffle Trace’s daughter gave the Check to her Dad In front of everyone and it brought tears to his eyes and many others in attendance! Thank You C.J. Pony Parts!

1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1--22-2)[email protected]

Even though it has been many years since the helmet law in PA has been repealed, this issue isn’t going away any time soon. The current law allows a licensed operator who is over 21 and has 2 years of riding experience and/or has completed the motorcycle safety course, to ride without a helmet. The law is once again under attack in PA, as several congressmen are in the process of preparing a bill to rescind the law. Truthfully, I am not familiar enough with the current crop of legislators to know whether this bill will pass, but given the conservative nature of the legislature, I would not be surprised if PA will once again require all motorcyclists to wear a helmet. For more information on this I suggest you contact your local A.B.A.T.E. Chapter.

Adding fuel to the fire, I just read an article about a rider, who while participating in a helmet law protest ride in New York, was killed when he was involved in a one-motorcycle accident. Apparently he died from a fractured skull and according to the emergency room physicians, had he been wearing a helmet, he would have survived. Given the irony of this situation, I am sure that all of the states trying to re-enact helmet laws will get a lot of mileage out of this sad turn of events.

On another note, although most of the conversations about injuries involve helmets, most of my clients do not suffer head injuries, but more commonly suffer from broken bones in addition to “road rash”. Although road rash is not life threatening, it is often described as the most painful type of injury suffered. Anyone who has ever had to endure the pain involved in the debridement process (scrubbing of the wound with a wire-like brush to clean out gravel, dirt etc.) and dressing and re-dressing of the wounds often say it is the most painful situation they have been through. I recently witnessed this first-hand as I was with a client who was having her bandages peeled off in order have her wounds cleaned and re-dressed. The pain she experienced during this procedure must have excruciating based upon her sobbing and cries of distress as this was taking place.

I mention this because as the weather turns warmer, many riders wear nothing more than a tank or t-shirt and some even where shorts and sneakers. However tempting this may be, at a bare minimum, no matter the weather, everyone should have on boots, jeans and at least a long-sleeve t-shirt and some type of gloves. There are also many light-weight mesh jackets that can be worn with minimal discomfort. This clothing, while perhaps slightly uncomfortable, will protect you from a great deal of pain if you are ever involved in an accident.

So while the helmet issue may grab the headlines, I would suggest that whether you chose to wear a helmet or not, at a minimum you should wear as much protective gear as possible. Although I have been fortunate not to have personally experienced road rash, I have experienced first hand the horror these burn-type injuries can cause if you are ever forced to slide across the roadway for any distance.

I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at [email protected] or call 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352). Sincerely,LEE D. GABER, EsquireThe one and only, “Cycle Attorney”

Victoria Kriner-Aversano

Jo Ann Biviano

America’s 911 Tribute Bike ShowRaises support for Amereica’s 911 FoundationStory & photos by Norm Keller

If you were heading up Allentown Road heading away from Harrisburg you couldn’t miss this event, not by a long shot! The HUGE flag held suspended between two hook and ladder fire trucks let everyone know that something special was happening at Susquehanna Valley Harley-Davidson on that sunny Saturday.

It was the brain child of Victoria Kriner-Aversano, the idea was to host a bike event that would draw attention to the tenth anniversary of that fateful day and to honor those that sacrificed all. What Victoria wanted to do is raise funds to support a group of riders leaving from the Harrisburg area to be part of ride to the three sites.

She went to Susquehanna Harley-Davidson and asked if they would host the event to which they were honored to do so. The spacious parking lot at the front of the building was lined with vendors, bike clubs were represented and a bike show was held with trophies awarded at the end of the afternoon.

Music was provided by local band, Harm’s Way, who did an excellent job. Much of their music was original and some of it caught my ear so that I had to stop and listen. An original song, “I’ll Always Remember” was performed by local singer/song writer Jo Ann Biviano. The words and music were touching and everyone stopped to listen as she sang from the heart.

A special treat was a photo opportunity of a 1 Chevy, the 11 Foundation custom chopper and an emergency vehicle all painted with the American flag. All three vehicles were lined up in the parking lot as everyone grabbed their cell phones and cameras to take photos.

Susquehanna Valley Harley-Davidson was an excel-lent host, they opened their facility with and welcomed the bikers. Many took advantage of the opportunity to check out the great deals inside including the latest motorcycles.

I had a great time, the music was awesome and I met some really great people. Next month when you take time on September 11th to remember, I hope that you’ll say a prayer for those that are still dealing with the pain. We can never forget the loss of that day and we need to honor those that sacrificed all.

Thanks Victoria for your work and dedication on a great day. I look forward to next years event.
