Oval cast brass originating from 24 class 2-8-4 built by North British Locomotive Co Ltd to work’s no. 26341 in 1948. These locomotives were built for branch line work and were the first in South Africa to have steel frames integrally cast with the cylinders, smokebox saddle and stays. Also a first was the use of USA ‘Vanderbilt’ type tenders with coal bunker atop of cylindrical water tank. Numberplate is repainted to front. 20¾” x 14½”.

Preserved in November 1972 and became the first locomotive to arrive at the Mid Hants Railway 1973. The ship was immediately requisitioned by the Admiralty for use as a troop ship during WW2 becoming ‘HMS Invicta’. Returned to SR 1945 for use on the Dover to Calais route from 1946 to 08/1972 when it was withdrawn and finally scrapped in Brugge, Belgium. Cast brass, c/w fittings, HUMBER SHIPREPAIRERS LTD label.
