• Though Manifest Destiny seemed as well-intentioned as either of the very successful Great Awakenings, the nations unfair acquisitions of both Oregon and Mexican Land paint a much more imperialistic and greedy picture of the nation in the 1830s-40s.

Thesis: Andrew Jackson’s election marked the beginning of a new age in American political history to

some extent when it came to gathering voters with typical common man repertoire as well as slam

campaigns.

• Competitive party system emerged toward heavy voter participation

• Democratic style- methods of campaign arose

• Language of politics was militaristic

• Women could participate in rallies and speeches

• New democratic political culture-Using Congress to gain political steps upward

Thesis Utopian communities had a sudden emergence due to

the second great awakening and reform movements that were taking place during this time, yet failed due to Americans own human nature.

Three Analytical Categories Second Great Awakening inspired many to want

utopian societies to form a perfect society and get rid of their sin.

Reform movements showed just how much the society was flawed and needed to be fixed.

Utopian communities failed due to most Americans own insecurity and lack of leadership.
