Family Activities Re-Enrollment started October 1

All 4-H youth and families - Online at http://ut.4honline.com Here is a link to walk you through the enrollment website.

Each family profile went to “inactive” on October 1. Please reactivate your account and update your profile before submitting. When you are finished updating, call the

office at 801-851-8470 to pay the annual $5 per child registration fee or pay it online. ***STARTING January 1, the fee will go up to $15. So get your registration one

and pay today. You will be unable to register for any camps or events until you reactivate your account.

Snowman Education – All youth and families—Free Feel free to bring your entire family, but it is geared towards youth K-3. December 15 from 4:30-5:30 pm We will be meeting somewhere in the snow! (In the valley if there is snow.) Join us for snow science experiments like how to make the perfect snowman, snowball fight science, snow safety, and how to photograph snowflakes! We will be making snow volcanos and having a laser ice show! Everyone who attended this event last winter loved it, so your family won’t want to miss out. We will be serving hot cocoa. Make sure to dress warm! This activity was planned to help leaders learn to run a 4-H club.

4-H Holiday Service Project—4-H Families

December 6 at 6:00 pm At the Utah County 4-H Office—100 E. Center St. L400, Provo, Utah

We are holding a stocking stuffing night where we will stuff stockings to give to local refugee families this year for Christmas. We would like all members of 4-H in our county to help us out. Clubs or families are encouraged to make homemade stockings. You will find the stocking pattern here or pick one up at our office.

*We also need deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brushes, hygiene items, school sup-plies, small toys, hats, scarves, gloves, and socks to put into the stockings.

You can bring your items to the 4-H office anytime or bring them that night.

Cupid Archery Shoot – All youth and families—Free February 6 from 6-8 pm At the North County Equestrian Center - 9400 North 6800 West in Highland

Come celebrate Valentine’s Day with us by participating in a fun archery shooting activity for the whole family. We will have a limited number of bows available to use, so if you have your own, you are welcome to bring them.. Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult. This is also a great opportunity to learn about other upcoming events in the Utah County 4-H Shooting Sports Program.

Youth Leadership Teen Council & Junior Ambassadors

Free for all youth grades 7-12 —Check out this site for more information At the 4-H office, 100 E. Center St. Suite L400 in Provo December 5—Expansion and Review (See Below) January 23— From 4:30 to 5:30 pm February 27— From 4:30 to 5:30 pm All youth grades 7-12 are invited to join us for our Utah County 4-H Teen Council and Jr. Ambassadors! We would love every youth in Utah county to come. Bring a friend and come learn leadership skills, plan activities, build friendships, and have fun! ***We also hold a youth club at the same time for younger siblings of those on Teen Council. This way, parents are welcome to bring all of your kids. We do things like team building activities, games, and have lots of fun!

Teen Winter Retreat

9-12 grade and leader chaperones January 27 to 28 at Aspen Grove in Provo Canyon ***Registration is almost full!*** Register today! Youth who have never attended a teen winter retreat are in for a fun time! This retreat is planed by our state ambassadors. You will have a dance, food, communi-cation workshops and so much fun! Youth will need to provide your own trans-portation.

Expansion and Review- Free December 5 from 4:30 to 6 pm - All youth grades 9-12 & adult leaders At the Old Spaghetti in University Place— 575 E University Pkwy, Orem All youth on the teen council, livestock ambassadors, county ambas-sadors, horse ambassadors, Leader’s Council and 4-H Staff are invit-ed to join us for our Expansion and Review night. We hold this event once a year to review our program and discuss ways to help it grow. You will be eating dinner, so come hungry!

Chasing STEM Scholarships

Free for all youth grades 8-12 and adults January 19 from 6:30 to 8 pm At Google Fiber Space—250 Center St. #101, Provo This will be an informational night for parents and students to learn about scholarship and financial aid opportunities, especially in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). You do not need to be in 4-H to attend, so invite your friends!

4-H Activities, Camps, & Retreats Christmas Goodies camp—Grades 3-12 & leaders December 2 from 5-7:30 pm—Cost $5 At the Utah County 4-H Office—100 E. Center St. L400 in Provo, Utah Are you excited for Christmas? Come learn how to make Christmas goodies with the 4-H! You will learn to make Christmas candy, yummy cookies, and build a gin-gerbread house. Youth grades 3-12 are invited to attend, as well as any leaders who might be interested. Public Speaking, Impromptu & World Of Work Clinic

Grades 3-12 & leaders– FREE

January 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm At the Utah County 4-H Office—100 E. Center St. L400 in Provo, Utah Come learn some strategies to improve public speaking skills, what needs to be in-cluded in a speech, and public presence skills. Workshops will also include tips to resume writing and interview techniques. Theses are skills that will help you in any career path you choose. Participants will rotate between three different interactive workshops and learn what is involved in each of these three 4-H contests. It should be a lot of fun, and you won’t want to miss it!

Horse Bowl Contests

All youth grades 3-12 At the 4-H office, 100 E. Center St. Suite L400 in Provo Contest #1—January 19 - from 5-8 pm Contest #2—February 23 - from 5-8 pm Teams of four will be quizzed on questions involving equine science

and horsemanship. Come as a team or individually and we will put you

on a team. We will begin with the Juniors level, then Intermediates and

end with Seniors. We will be holding two Horse Bowl Contests. Youth

in the Senior age division MUST compete in at least one contest in or-

der to qualify for 4-H State Contests in July. However, the more you

participate in, the more likely you will qualify for state. State contest

qualifiers will be decided based on the highest scores individually.

World of Work contest

All youth grades 3-12

At the Utah County 4-H Office—100 E. Center St. L400 in Provo, Utah January 26—Pick a time from 3-9 pm

In this fun contest, you pretend you are applying for a job. You submit an

application and do an interview, just like in the real world. You need to come

prepared with a resume, job application, and job description. The goal of this

contest is to prepare you to actually apply for the job. All information should

be factual. You will be judged on things like how nice the forms look, your

appearance, your non-verbal communication and your interview.

February 18 from 9 am –11 am Spanish Fork Fairgrounds—475 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork

February 18 from noon to 2 pm Lehi Hi School—180 North 500 East, Lehi Last opportunity to tag steers for the Millard County Jr. Livestock Show (Delta) or the Uintah Basin Jr. Livestock Show (Vernal). Last Opportunity to tag Goats, Sheep, and Hogs for the Utah State Jr. Livestock Show (Spanish Fork). Also open to all species wishing to participate in any later shows.

Livestock Tagging Days are critical for youth wishing to participate in the Junior Livestock Shows. This year if you would like to participate, you MUST attend a livestock tagging. If there is an extenu-ating circumstance, please contact Katelyn Helpworth at [email protected] AT LEAST 2 WEEKS prior to the livestock tagging date. Steers must be tagged at least 100 days prior to the show you are wishing to attend. Sheep and hogs must be tagged at least 60 days prior to the show.

Impromptu Public Speaking contest &

Public Speaking Contest

All youth grades 3-12—at 1289 East 300 South in Provo February 15—Pick a time from 3-9 pm - Register soon, before slots fill up At these contests, you will be able to practice you public speaking skills. You may choose one or both contests. Impromptu: You will draw from a selection of questions for the topic of your speech. Then, you will have time to organize your thoughts and give a 3-5 minute speech. You will be judged on things like your appearance, the opening and body of your speech, the way you present, and the summary of your speech. Public Speaking: You will give a 6-8 minute prepared speech on the topic “My 4-H Experience...A Pathway to the Future.” Provide 3 copies of your speech for the judges. You will be judged on things like your appear-ance, the way you present, and the speech. Points will be deducted for going over or under the time, or exces-sively using your notes. Here is an example of a speech from 4-H.

Junior Teen reTreaT “Young Leaders do Big Things

February 3-4 Drop your kids on Friday off in Provo at 4:30 at a hotel, we will let you know where later Pick up on Saturday in the afternoon The Utah County Ambassadors have planned a great retreat! Youth will attend Leadership Work-shops, do fun activities, stay in a hotel, ride the Frontrunner, and tour the Train Museum in Ogden. We will focus on how young leaders can do big things. The workshops will be hands-on and a lot of fun! Meals and snacks are included.

Ever wonder how a 3D printer works? Do you want to create your own funky

creation? Then, you need to come to this camp! We will design and make rock-

ets, cars, and more! You will get to print your own designs. This is a basic level

class. The skills you learn in this class can be put on a resume. Space is limited.
