Contest Day At the Fair: On Saturday, August 19, we will be holding a contest day at the Utah County Fair. All

youth K-8 grade can participate in contests this day. The contests will include Fashion Review, Sewing Contest, Talent Show and Decorate Your Duds. Click here for more details about these contests.

VOLUNTEERS Needed: We need about 100 adults and youth to volunteer to help us throughout the fair. Please,

contact us if you are able to volunteer, even if it is only for a couple of hours. Here is a list of some of the things we need help with. Click here for volunteer registration times. Thanks you for your time!

Monday before the fair—Set up, check-in, and displays

Tuesday —Set up displays, be a clerk for the judges, record winners (lunch provided

Wednesday to Friday—Volunteer to help with Maker trailer and be a host for displays

Saturday —Judge contests, volunteer at the Maker Trailer, and be a host

Monday after the fair —Clean-up and entry checkout (lunch is usually provided for those who stay) ***The Utah County 4-H Office will be closed on from Monday, August 14 to Monday August 21. If you have any questions about the Utah County Fair, or about entering your projects online, please call our office at 801-851-8470. We can’t wait to see you at the fair!

Held in August and is for all 4-H youth and families!

At the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds- 475 S. Main Street August 1—Entry registration opens -click here to enter items

(It will NOT be open until August 1)

August 14—Entry Check-in at the fair from 3-6 pm.

August 15—Entry judging

August 16 to 19—Fair is open to the public

Fair hours: Sunday to Thursday from 10 am to 10 pm Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 11 pm

4-H Day at the Fair—held September 16 There will be lot of additional activities at the 4 -H building on that day. Information can be found on the state fair website.

The Utah State Junior Livestock Show will be held at the State Fair.. ***Pick up State Fair 4-H entries and premiums on Sept. 18 from 3-5 pm at the Utah County 4-H Office.

Utah STATE Fair workers needed Each year, we have the opportunity to hire temporary workers for the duration of the fair to help in the 4-H build-ing with set up, recruitment, and overall management of the projects. We would love to invite people from your county to come and participate. This is a paid job and is great for those looking to make a little extra money in just a short time period . City Parades– All 4-H youth and families Worth 1 4-H Achievement

We need 4-H youth and their families to join our 4-H float at the parades throughout the summer! We are in need of

people to ride on the float and walk along passing out fliers. We ask that you wear this year’s 4-H shirt or a green shirt with a clover. If you do not have one, they are available to

4-H Lagoon Week– All 4-H youth and families

August 13 to 18, 20th Pick up Lagoon discount vouchers at the 4-H office starting on July 1 100 E. Center St. Suite L400, Provo The regular price of Lagoon tickets is $55.95 per person. The 4-H voucher will discount the rate to only $35 per person plus tax. You will redeem the voucher at the Lagoon payment window. Worth 1 4-H Achievement point.

Utah State Quilt Guild Show

All 4-H youth and their families September 20-23—times vary each day Davis Conference Center—1651 N. 700 West., Layton Water Conservatory District—355 West university Parkway, Orem The Utah State Quilt Guild invites you to come and celebrate our 40th anniversary and Ruby Jubilee. They will be hosting the Largest Red and White Quilt Show in history of the state of Utah! Great classes will be taught by national teachers and well as the best local teachers. There will be vendors, lunches, and other fun events. Wear your ruby red slippers and follow the yellow brick road to the celebration! Center St. Suite L400 in Provo All youth grades 7-12 are invited to join us for our Utah County 4-H Teen Council and Junior Ambassadors! We would love every youth in Utah county to come. Bring a friend and come learn leadership skills, plan activities, build friendships, and have fun! Each meeting is worth 1 Achievement Point. ***We also hold a youth club at the same time for younger siblings of those on Teen Council. This way, parents are welcome to bring all of your kids. We do things like team building activi-ties, games, and have lots of fun!

4-H Activities, Camps, & Retreats Sewing Camp - Grades 4-12 AND an adult helper Cost: varies depending on project. August 3 from 9 am to noon Register online at https://ut.4honline.com At the Utah County 4-H Office—100 E. Center St. Suite L700, Provo Project #1: Purse out of old jeans—cost is free—bring a pair of old jeans or we will have some available to use. Project #2: Reversible purse—Cost is free if you bring your own fabric, or $5 if you use the fabric provided. It takes 3/4 of a yard of 2 different fabrics. Project #3: Tooth Fairy Pillow—Cost is $2—You will be making two; one will be a service project for Primary Children’s Hospital, the second one is for you to keep and enter in the fair. NOTE: You can enter any items you make into the county fair. An adult (parent/leader/grandparent) MUST accompany all children. ***We need 1 adult for every 2 kids attending. Some sewing experience is required. Please bring your own sewing machine and sewing kit (scissors, thread, pins, etc.). We have a very limited number of sewing machines and sewing kits that youth can use. If you need the 4-H to supply any of these items, please let us know ahead of time. Thank you to our volunteer leaders for conducting this camp. Worth 1 4-H Achievement Point.

Junior Ambassadors Kick-off – Youth entering grades 7-8 in the fall

We will be meeting new friends, playing games, and having fun at the Utah County Fair. Pizza dinner will be provided! Worth 1 Achievement Point.

STEM Alternative Energy Camp - Grades 7-12 Cost: FREE

August 7-11 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm each day Register online at https://ut.4honline.com At the Utah County 4-H Office—100 E. Center St. Suite L700, Provo Join our 4-H STEM ambassadors and adult experts as they teach you about using alternative energy. You will also learn all about energy, how electricity works and how to build your own circuit. This camp is limited to only 20 youth, so sign up soon.

STEM Drift Trike Camp - Grades 7-12 Cost: FREE

August 7-11 from 5 pm to 8 pm each day Register online at https://ut.4honline.com Place TBD in Utah County Join our 4-H STEM ambassadors and adult experts as they teach you about welding and mechanics. 4-H Activities, Camps, & Retreats 4-H Portfolio Training - Free

September 7 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm—all ages At the Utah County 4-H Office—100 E. Center St. Suite L700, Provo This training will be a great learning opportunity for those who are just beginning at portfolios, as well as those who are looking to improve their current portfolios. We will have examples for you to review, answer your questions, and you will get feedback . If you have never done one, you will be able to see what others have done. Everyone who comes will re-ceive hands on training and walk away with your portfolio started. Come and see what 4-H Portfolio’s are all about! Worth 1 4-H Achievement Point.

Contest Day #3

All 4-H youth grades K-12 are encouraged to participate in this fun contest day. You are invited to pick one or more contests to participate in. Click the links to view the rules of each contest. Demonstrations: (All grades K-12) Demonstrate on any subject you are interested in, such as Ag, Home Economics, Food, Horse, STEM, Health Living, etc. You may work individually or as a team of two. Demonstrations should not exceed 15 minutes. Click the link for more information. Smart Shopping Challenge: (All grades K-12) Select and model an outfit for a set of judges. You will also demonstrate decision making skills in selecting the most suitable of three outfits. Cosplay: (All Grades K-12) Create a costume based on any fictional character and present why you picked that character. You will be judged on things like creativity, construction of costume, and your presentation. Click the link for more info on pages 24-27. Prepared Video Production: (All Grades K-12) Create a video for this contest! You will be judged on things like your story board, the video itself, and your presentation. Click the link for more info on pages 140-142. The above contests are for everyone in 4-H. During contest day, Senior Level 4-H Members (9-12 grade) can also choose to do the following contests. Senior Sewing Contest, Senior Fashion Revue (fill out this form for it and watch this video about it), and Senior Talent Contest (fill out this form for it) Each contest is Worth 2 4-H Achievement Points.

Proposals are now being accepted for WRLF 2018 in California. Pleaes consider appling to present at this very helpful conference. This is a volunteer forum for the region, similar to Utah Leadermete. They extended the deadline for proposals to August 6, so sign up soon. Utah will be hosting in 2019, so we would love our leaders and youth to support WRLF in California.
