-일반 화학반응으로 구성 : - R-OH + R’-COOH ---> R-O-COR’ (ester formation) - R-OH + R/-OH -? R-O-R’ (ether formation )....
-다양한 조절기전 (feed back, end-product. regulations..) -coupling of energy : 예) Glucose + ATP->Glucose-6-phosphate + ADP Glucose + Pi -> Glucose-6-phosphate : DG = + 3.3 kcal/mol ATP -> ADP + Pi : DG = -8.4 kcal/mol ------------------------------------------ Glucose + ATP -> Glucose-6-phosphate + ADP : DG = - 5.1 kcal/mol (negative DG : 자발적 반응)
atom-molecule-organelle-cell-tissue-organ-living organism
- 65% Oxygen (worthless - meaning that you're mostly hot air!)
•18% Carbon (worthless)
•10% Hydrogen (worthless)
•3% Nitrogen (good for plant food)
•1.5% Calcium (worthless)
•1% Phosphorous (good fertilizer)
•0.35% Potassium (worthless)
•0.25% Sulfur (can be used to make that rotten egg smell)
•0.15% Sodium (salt)
•0.15% Chlorine (not enough for the backyard pool)
•0.05% Magnesium (of slight value)
•0.0004% Iron (I guess we can rust)
•0.00004% Iodine (sell this to the medical industry)
Plus minute quantities of fluorine, silicon, manganese, zinc,
copper, aluminum, and arsenic(!).
No gold, silver, or platinum deposits.
Value of all this great stuff - less than $1.00. This won't cover the price of the funeral.

The Origin of the Universe ~15 Billion Years Ago (BYA) :
the matter and energy of the universe -> ‘singularity’
Big Bang
over ~10-12 s:- expansion to a universe about 1m in diameter
- formation of elementary particles
- temperature ~15,000,000,000 K,
over ~10-5 s: -elementary particles begin to interact,
-producing subatomic particles, e.g. nuclear
components (protons, neutrons).
-synthesis phase lasted ~100s - Initial elements were only hydrogen, helium, and lithium.
- Some elements formed after the first few minutes.
- Heavier elements (atomic number >3) mostly formed from carbon.
-Carbon was formed by fusion of 3 helium nuclei. -Very heavy elements (e.g. lead-uranium) are probably much more recent
(at least on a cosmological scale).
