ACTORS FROM THE LONDON STAGETwelfth Night & The Tempest: Shakespeare

Five British actors – one amazing week. The AFTLS intensive is a cross-disciplinary residency using Shakespeare’s texts to explore a myriad of subjects. Performances of a great play (Twelfth Night : Fall 2019) (The Tempest : Spring 2020) cap a week spent with students and faculty. Recent residencies include: UT-Austin, Stanford, Wellesley, Dartmouth, and the US Naval Academy.

JULIAN SANDS A Celebration of Harold Pinter

Directed by John Malkovich, this is an evening of Homeric theater with an extraordinary actor and moving poetry. Devoid of pretension or glittery trappings, the play gets to the soul of the man – a poet, playwright, husband, political activist, Nobel winner, mortal. The play has been performed world-wide and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award.

Fiery Balkan brass, irresistible beats, Roma (Gypsy) accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops make Slavic Soul Party! the brass band for Balkan-Soul-Gypsy-Funk. The ensemble has performed everywhere from Turkish palaces to Russian baths, the Kennedy Center to Carnegie Hall to the Chicago Jazz Festival, and from Amsterdam to Zimbabwe. Distinctively Austin, Steel Betty lives at the crossroads of what makes Austin, Texas the engine driving traditional music in America. Flavors of bluegrass, folk, blues, Tex-Mex, Old-Time music, and classic country, are a reflection of today’s American music scene. This hip, virtuosic trio, embraces Austin’s eclectic culture and brings this lively music out of Texas for the rest of the country to experience.

Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis, BBC Award winner and Scottish cultural ambassador, returns to America in the fall of 2019 with her ensemble of virtuosic players.
