Larry Koch - Commodore
It’s Christmas morning and I find myself watching (actually mostly
listening to) the Nutcracker being performed by the Royal Ballet of
London on TV. I need better speakers at my desk! How can anyone
not love Tchaikovsky and his brilliant music? I’m willing to bet you
didn’t know that I’m a fan of classical music, unless of course, you’ve
been on your boat next to Fiddler’s Green at Catalina and listened to
me blast the 1812 overture from our cockpit at all hours of the night.
That being said, I for one can’t wait for summer and the boating
season to begin. But for now, it’s still the holiday season which is full of
parties, decorations, lights, big meals, cold drinks, warm drinks, visits
to and from family and good will towards all.
I want to thank all who decorated the clubhouse for the Christmas season and for the New Years
Eve party. A special thanks to Nick and Nicole Cecola for all their hard work to make the changing
of the guard evening such a huge success. Then, two days later, the kids Christmas party went off
without a hitch. Santa and his helper elf Megan visited the club and handed out lots of toys to the
kids. Thanks to the generosity of those members who brought toys to the club for the “Toys for
Tots Program”. Some of our local finest firefighters brought over their hook and ladder from the
Fire station and they collected quite a load of toys for needy children. Sorry our pictures from that
Monday night didn’t turn out so well. I promise we’ll do better in the future.
For those of you who experienced the boat parade this year, I think we can all agree that the only
thing missing was an entry from PMYC. I am officially volunteering our boat for decorating next
year and I hope, make that, I know, we will bring the trophy home once again. There is no excuse
for the best Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey to not have the Best boat in the parade!
A special thanks once again, to all of our great cooks, decorators and planners who all work so
hard and make Friday Night Dinners, Monday Night Football Dinners and every other special event
such a great success and so much fun. You all help to make this club what it is.
January 19th is our Commodore's Ball and Installation Dinner at Killer Shrimp. Please send in your
RSVP and plan to dance the night away to live music after another excellent dinner prepared by
others, for a change.
Please remember to take a few minutes and verify that your roster information is correct. We will
be publishing the 2013 roster in January. Please e-mail any changes to me or Glen Solomon and
we will be sure to get them made. We can't do it without your input.
We have a lot to do this coming year. I hope to see more of you at our monthly meetings on the
fourth Tuesday of each month and I welcome your ideas at any time. The future of the Club is in all
of our hands.
See you at the Club….. Larry

Well, 2013 really kicked off to an awesome start at PMYC’S Golden New Year’s Eve Gala! What a great party! Rhonda Breum, Helene Smith and Tina Michel fell nothing short of amazing in the galley. The gourmet meal they prepared will be remembered long into 2013!
Jeff Jeffries Band Hot Pocket’s smooth sounds took us into the wee hours of the morning. We danced the night away till our feet couldn’t take anymore!
Special thanks also goes out to all the club members who helped make the evening such a success. Peter Breum, Curt Bersche, Al Berry, Larry Koch, Darlene Koch, Rex Michel,
Karen Otterbein, Gary Panas, Jack Rackliffe and Kerry Rackliffe.
Everyone’s contributions were greatly appreciated. It takes a village to make a party! Here’s to a good 2013 for all club members and their families. We look forward to more parties and good times at the club in 2013.

My goodness, I can't believe that it's that time again.... Greg and I would like to wish you all the very best of holiday seasons! We are still in Thailand, in Phuket (the jewel that the Thai’s polish for all of the "farangs" (foreigners) that foolishly sail, fly, swim to their shores....) Greg has been busy varnishing every square inch of Long Tall Sally's interior in preparation for selling her to what we hope will be a high bidder! We will be so sorry to let her go as she has kept us safe and secure for many years whilst supporting our roving lifestyle. We have given her a new deck and a wonderful new paint job so she won't be embarrassed going to her new owners. We also have two new family members-Freddie and Yoda-don't worry -they're just kittens! Our wonderful old cat Jade had passed when we were in the Philippines (at the ripe old age of 24) and we were sure that we didn't need any more pets at this time. Unfortunately, Greg kept stumbling across these half dead little creatures and bringing them home ......what could we do?? Our future plans are, as usual, very half baked. We're really not looking too far past just getting the boat sold. Who knows?? Anyway, we hope that this finds you all well and happy and anticipating a healthy and prosperous New Year! Much love to all!
