What is a domain?

A domain is a logical group of users on the same network or computer that is linked to the Internet. Email uses domains, as shown below:

Host Domain

www yahoo.com

mail aol.comPBX Domains

pbx.companya.com

snom ONE also relies on domains to implement its multi-tenant functionality (limited to snom ONE blue only).

Multiple Domains with theSame Account Numbers

The same account numbers can be used by multiple domains on the same system.

5

The special “localhost” domain

The domain “localhost” matches all unknown domains. “localhost” is used for simple installations and is automatically

created during installation. If set, when a SIP packet comes into the system, the system

does not look after the @ sign as it tries to match the domain to the account, i.e., [email protected] [email protected] (sees 101 and looks for a match).

Keep “localhost”―Don’t change it if you don’t have to.
