Sensational Shaky Recipes To Help Keep Your Diet A-Float

We know that you are anxious to try out all the 101 SensationalSlimming Shakes & Floats collection, but before you begin let’s touch onsome very important Diet Notes.

We recommend that you serve your shakes in beautiful fragilestemware, goblets, Irish Coffee mugs, rootbeer mugs, insulatedcontainers, your everyday glassware, parfait glasses – any container thatsets off your luxurious shakes. Dark-colored beverage containers willemphasize the beauty of your shakes. As previously mentioned, theshakes are VERY GENEROUS. You will need very large beveragecontainers – no kidding!

Don’t forget the cute coasters or those little paper umbrellas! Or if you’refeeling like getting lost in the 50’s, grab your Crazy Straw.

Most of the shakes require nothing more than pitching all of theingredients into your blender or mixing bowl, then flipping the switchuntil your shake or float is rich and frothy. Even so, we’ll provide detailedinstructions for each shake, as well as suggest a unique or fancy way thatyou might wish to implement for ‘presentation’ purposes.

Our shakes are prepared with skimmed milk at 70 calories per cup. If youdo not like skimmed milk, simply use 1%, 2% or even whole milk andcount those additional calories. If you use whole milk, you can save a bitof calories without giving up the ‘whole’ taste by using ¾ cup of milk

Page 6: 101 Sensational Slimming Shakes,Slushies & Floats.pdf

and 3-4 additional ice cubes. We allowed 15 calories per 2 Tablespoonsfor our whipped topping and used Cool Whip/Fatfree variety in our shakerecipes – though a generic will work just as well.

Chilling your mixing container as well as the beaters (should you be usinga mixer) will render the most favorable shake – as well as add froth andlightness to your shake. Another tip is to chill the milk inside yourfreezer in advance. The colder the milk, the thicker the shake! Coldnessallows the ingredients to volumize, sort of like a country-western singer’shair looked during the 1960’s.

If you would like to ‘further’ reduce the calories in your shakes, it’s totallyup to you because yes, with the delicious Diet Bites shakes, you cancertainly do that with minimal loss of tasty goodness. If you prefer lessfruit, use less. If you prefer less milk, use less – and so forth. And duringour testing phase, we discovered that by increasing the liquid (generallymilk) content by ½ cup, an additional serving could be rendered.

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, try to substitute an item thatwould parallel with the other ingredients. For example, peaches might besubstituted for strawberries.

All recipes have been tested in the Diet Bites kitchen for accuracy andconsistency. However, elevations, the size of certain ingredients, brandnames, and the sweetness of local ingredients are a few of the things thatwill influence the final output as well as the calorie content – but these ofcourse, are VERY minimal adjustments. When in doubt, use yourCommon Cooksense & Calorie-Wise Knowledge. If the recipe servesmore than one, simply reduce the recommended ingredients or sharewith a family member or friend.

We are also partial to Splenda and Equal – but feel free to substitute yourfavorite no calorie sweetener.

Okay – let’s get to shakin’!

FRUITILICIOUS SHAKES

Winter, spring, summer, fall – the wonderful seasons that bring us giftsfrom Mother Nature’s Orchard. These great shakes are a fantastic way toget in your Fruits of the Diet Vine! Most whip up in a few seconds and allare ultra light, ultra low cal, ultra lowfat –without the guilt. And asmentioned in our dramatic prelude – most contain milk (i.e. calcium) aBone-Builder and Newfound Weight Loss Accelerator!

Feel free to experiment with different types of fruit. If you like pearsrather than apples, then by all means, use canned or fresh pears ratherthan the apple suggestion. What about fruity calories? They are not onlyhealthy, they are tiny:

A medium-sized apple contains about 80 calories with the peel. Three apricots contain about 50 calories. A medium-sized banana contains about 105 calories. Blackberries, blueberries & cherries contain about 75 calories per cup. Most melons contain about 55 calories per cup. Raisins are a bit steep with 210 calories per ½ cup but contain iron. Raspberries contain about 60 calories per cup. A medium-sized orange has about 60 calories. A lemon and a lime have about 10 calories. A guava has about 45 calories per three ounces. Dates contains 115 calories per 1 ½ ounces (about 5 dates).

That’s a general idea of our luscious fruity experience! You are going tolove these rich shakes. And your body will too!

The Winding LaneServes 2 for about 110 calories

1 ½ cup of ice cold skimmed milk1-3 ice cubes1-3 packets of Splenda or Equal if extra sweetness is desired2 fresh apricots, peeled and pittedDash of nutmeg

Blend until frothy and enjoy cold.

Tips:

Apricots are rich in Vitamin C, fiber, beta-carotene and potassium –which can help ward off heart problems such as stroke and highblood pressure.

Apricots are also a good source for Vitamin A.

Avoid greenish apricot specimens, as this species doesn’t ripen wellonce you take it home from the market.

The apricot is closely related to two other Fruity Diet Friends – thepeach and plum, though the flesh of the apricot is not nearly as juicyas its fruity companions.

When the apricot is canned or dried, the flavor becomes tart andkicky.

Fresh apricots can be made into a delicious diet jam by peeling, smashing, then adding Splenda or Equal to taste. A squirt of lemonwill add an intense burst of flavor to the jam.

Goddess of Guava Shake. We don’t want any sour faces. Therefore, search for AND purchase only ripened guavas. Ifyou need a bit of help, ask your produce manager to lend a

hand with the ‘picking’.

If you have never experienced a guava, a sweet one will contain overtonesof strawberries, pineapples or bananas. A 3-ounce guava contains about45 calories. You’ll need only one.

The pineapple is rich in Vitamin C and will help ward off sickness bybuilding up your immunity.

You can also create pineapple sauces to drizzle over your lean cuts ofmeat.

Try adding pineapple with baked ham with a bit of brown sugar.

Enjoy your fresh pineapple with a bit of Equal or Splenda added if youdesire a sweeter taste. Oh – so many choices!

Create a pineapple salsa by adding crushed pineapple to your favoritejarred salsa. Ole~!!

AND pineapple makes excellent ka-bobs. Alternate with chunks ofham and brush with a light brown sugar glaze.

21

Fairy Island ShakeServes 6 for about 135 calories each

This ‘shake’ is more of a foamy dessert than shake, but it’s close enoughto our topic to include in this awesome shake collection. Grab yourspoon or a big straw!

We allowed 105 calories per banana – which is about 4 ounces of flesh(no peel counted in the weight). In other words, choose some good-sized bananas for your Fairy Island Shakes.

1 – 12 ounce container of THAWED whipped topping 2 ripened bananas, mashed2 ripened bananas, sliced1-4 packets of Splenda or Equal if extra sweetness is desiredGround nutmeg

Very CAREFULLY, stir topping, MASHED bananas and sweetenertogether. Again, you must do this very carefully or your topping will go‘splat’.

Carefully spoon into chilled clear parfait glasses – or your favorite servingglasses. Top with the SLICED banana and sprinkle with ground nutmeg, ifdesired.

Tips:

Squeeze the juice of a fresh lemon onto your banana slices and mixslightly to coat each slice. This will discourage the bananas fromturning brown.

To thoroughly mash bananas, place stalk in driveway and run overpeels with child’s red wagon.

Page 22: 101 Sensational Slimming Shakes,Slushies & Floats.pdf

22

23

Medallion BeachServes 3 for about 100 calories each

2 cups of ice cold skimmed milk1 ripened peeled banana1 Tablespoon of REAL rum extract1 - 2 Tablespoons of Quick ‘Banana’ powder4-6 ice cubes1-3 packets of Splenda or Equal if extra sweetness is desired

Tips:

Try out different types of honey in your Honey Ginger Shakes. Thosequaint specialty shops offer a wide assortment – wild honey, nutflavored honey, wildflower honey, orange blossom honey, heatherhoney, lavender honey, citrus lime honey, Mexican honey and the listgoes on. The flavor of the honey depends on the bee’s location, thetime of the year and what nature produces to entice them.

Page 24: 101 Sensational Slimming Shakes,Slushies & Floats.pdf

24

The flavor as well as the color of the honey depend upon where thosebees buzz!

Honey ranges in color from light amber to dark mahogany.

Honey is our oldest natural sweetener.

Honey is the only food that will not spoil (if kept in a sealedcontainer, of course!).

To ‘rescue’ sugared honey, simply heat.

There’s nothing that will match the taste of a honeycomb!

The next time that you feel like making a loaf of homemade bread, smear a thin layer of honey over the cooled top, then sprinkle onsome uncooked old-fashioned oats.

Hula StingerServes 3 for about 150 calories each

Page 25: 101 Sensational Slimming Shakes,Slushies & Floats.pdf

25

Yes – the coconut cream packs a good bit of fat at 13 grams. However, divided among 3 servings, the fat is cut to about 4.5 grams per servingand it adds body and a smooth, rich taste to this delicious tropical shake.

Keep in mind that it’s okay to enjoy good things while dieting! Never, ever, ever be afraid of certain foods. Remember, YOU are in control!

The Sugar ShakeServes 2 for about 150 calories each

You’ll want the sugar to be identifiable when you are enjoying yourshake.

The Sugar Shake is a great way to fill your sweet tooth with a minimal ofcalories. In fact, most of the calories originate from the milk and creamer– healthy additions to any diet!

NUTTY SHAKES

Nuts are a healthy alternative to meats when it comes to inputtingdietary protein while dieting.

Here are some basic nutty truths to consider for anyone seeking totalfitness:

Although some nuts are high in fat, most contain no cholesterol!

Unsalted nuts are generally ultra low in sodium.

Most nuts pack a fair amount of fiber, per serving.

Chestnuts contain only a trace of fat, are low in sodium, contain nocholesterol, yield a fair amount of Vitamin C and contains B Vitamins.Chestnuts are also ultra low in calories – only 70 per ounce! Whenroasting, take care to pierce the shell in an effort to avoid theexperience of having your nuts explode. Sometimes, that can be agood thing – but not when roasting nuts.

Some people are allergic to nuts. Such a reaction might include hives, headaches, rashes and itching of the throat and mouth.

Dried pine nuts are high in fiber and a good source of iron. Wheneating foods that contain iron, be certain to enjoy another food highin Vitamin C to help increase the absorption of iron.

Most nuts should be stored in an airtight container to ensure freshnessand reduce the likelihood of rancidity. (We’re referring to nutsplucked off of trees – not human ones.)

Page 32: 101 Sensational Slimming Shakes,Slushies & Floats.pdf

32

Peanuts grow underground and are actually classified as legumes ratherthan nuts.

When shopping for pistachio nuts, choose those that have partiallyopened shells. Closed shells may indicate that the nuts are unripened.

Try sprinkling crushed nuts over cooked veggies for a surprisinglytasty, nutty treat.

Leftover nuts are also delicious crushed and mixed with refrigerated nocalorie butter spray.

For a few more calories, try preparing pecan crusted trout. Fry in nocalorie cooking spray until golden on one side, then flip and again -fry until golden brown. A simple recipe includes: salt, cornmeal andfresh crushed pecans. Drench thawed fish in water and pat dry withpaper towel. Next, dredge in cornmeal that has been seasoned withsalt and pepper, if desired. Finally, dredge through the crushed pecans.

Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds are also tasty treatsthat you should include in your diet. The pumpkin and sunflowerseeds take a long while to eat if you buy them unshelled. Enjoy with adiet soda and you’re in Diet Heaven! Now – on to our nutty shakerecipes!

SHERBET SHAKES

Like ice cream but find that it’s just too high in calories and fat to enjoyguilt-free?

Then sherbet might be this Dieter’s Dream!

Most sherbets contain 100 - 130 calories per ½ cup and about 2 grams offat. Compared to ice cream, you’ll be saving a minimum of 50 caloriesand 9 fat grams per serving.

Sherbet is also very sweet to the taste – more so than most ice creams. Sojust a little goes a long way in the sweetness department. Hum; we likethat, don’t you?

Other than a fantastic shake ingredient, experiment with sherbet byadding it to other recipes in your diet. It’s great with sliced fruit, cottagecheese, a tray of sliced lean meat and cold cheeses - as well as with nutbreads. Might we recommend the Earthgrains Oatberry?

And if you find that sherbet is your bag, try out Ice Milk. Long ago, itwas a poor family’s Ice Cream – along with a mix called melorine. Thesealso contain less calories than standard ice cream.

CREAM SHAKES

Moovalous creamy delights that bring Diet Joy!

As previously mentioned, individuals who include calcium or calciumsupplements in their diets lose weight quicker than thosewho don’t. It’s just one more great reason why we shouldinclude milk products in our diets.

Our great, low calorie shakes make a fabulous way to dojust that, by keeping in tune with your dietary needs.

Many people just don’t like the taste of skimmed milk. If you’veexperimented with a few of our recipes, you’ve probably discovered thatyou really can’t tell much (if any) difference when skimmed milk issubstituted for whole milk in the shakes.

Whole milk contains about 150 calories per cup while skimmed is a teeny70 calories.

As you can see, you can enjoy two times the amount of milk for thesame number of calories while cutting about 8 grams of fat from yourdiet.

So, we might say that skimmed milk is twice as good for you as wholemilk!

CANDY SHAKES

Purchasing single-serving bags of candy will help during Diet Time. Theworst you could do is to eat the entire package (which we do NOT thinkis a bad thing at all!!!). Having treats in your diet will keep you satisfiedand actually more apt to stay on your diet. You won’t feel so deprived.

By incorporating sweet treats into your diet, you’ll be learning how tomanage them long-term. It’s sort of like a business plan, isn’t it?Only, it’s a lifeplan – a plan for life, a plan for living!

Small candies such as M & M’s, lemon drops, chocolate covered raisinsand maltballs can be enjoyed one little candy at a time and will lastlonger than a candy bar.

Although protein bars and ‘power-booster’ bars are currently ‘all therave’, for the most part they are more hype than health. Quitefrankly, you’ll get about the same benefits from a candy bar and amulti-vitamin. The fat intake might be a little more, and the keyword is ‘might’.

Great candy bar choices during diet time include ‘The CharlestonChew’, ‘Cow Tails’, ‘Sugar Babies’, “Bit O Honey’, Milky Way Lite’(which we thought missed a grand marketing opportunity by notcoining the tag of ‘Milky WEIGH Light’) and ‘Three Musketeers Bar’.
