c. Which measure of central tendency best represents the data? Explain.

The mean is the best representation because it is right in the middle of the data. So is the median, but the mean is closer to the maximum value and it is barely further away from the minimum value than the median.

I believe the best central tendency is the median for this situation. The mean has two extreme outliers, 31 and 3686. If you take the outliers out of the equation then the mean is only 592. This is closer to the median than the original mean.

14. Quiz Scores You and your friend have a friendly competition going on about the

scores on your math quizzes. Both of your scores for the first five quizzes are given below. Compare the spreads of the data sets by using (a) the range and (b) the mean absolute deviation.

My quiz score range and MAD is smaller than my friends. My range shows that my quiz

scores are much closer together than my friends, meaning I am more consistent on my quizzes. My MAD is over half as small as my friends which mean my quiz scores are closer to my average score than my friends. They tend to score high and low, whereas I tend to score in the middle to high on quizzes.
