aly Dear Colleague,

The American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Antitrust Law and the International Bar Association (IBA) are pleased to invite you to the Tenth International Cartel Workshop, which will be held in Rome, Italy during February 19-21, 2014. The International Cartel Workshop, recognized globally as the premier international cartel program, is presented only once every two years. Following the successful 2012 program in Vancouver, the workshop transitions to Europe in 2014. We are delighted that Italy will host this widely acclaimed program for the first time.

The 2014 program will continue the Workshop’s tradition of instruction by demonstration, with a faculty of more than 75 highly experienced attorneys from around the globe taking you inside a hypothetical international cartel matter -- from detection by government enforcers to the disposition of government prosecutions and private damage claims. The Workshop will also highlight new developments in the law and leniency practices around the world, with leading enforcers and experienced private practitioners demonstrating how critical decisions are made on both sides of the table and providing examples of important interactions between counsel and enforcers. The 2014 Workshop’s international faculty includes many of the most accomplished cartel attorneys in the world, as well as senior cartel enforcement officials from a variety of jurisdictions, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Although the Workshop will retain its signature instruction-by-demonstration format and popular enforcer roundtables, we are making some noteworthy changes in 2014. First, the Workshop will last three days, which allows us to add a pre-conference cartel enforcement fundamentals session in addition to thirteen demonstrations comprised of 25 different real-world “scenes”. Second, we are expanding the realism and practicality of the demonstrations. Among other enhancements, we have increased emphasis on planning and conducting internal investigations, representing individuals, and civil litigation. For example, the Workshop will for the first time demonstrate a live court hearing presided over by a sitting U.S. federal district court judge.

We hope you will join us in Rome for this exciting event. Remember that workshop seating is limited and has sold out in the past. So please register and make your lodging and travel arrangements soon.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE)ALL ATTENDEES: Sign-in for CLE; the majority of attendees only need do this once for the entire conference. Some states require attendees to follow different procedures, like DE, IL, TX.

NY attendees are required by their state to sign in and out of each session. NY ATTENDEES REMINDER: You cannot receive a NY certificate if you do not sign in AND out. The attendance sign-in forms for DE, IL and NY will be located in the back of each session room.

NY attorneys should pick up their customized Certificate of Attendance at the CLE Information Desk during the conference hours or if you forget to pick it up, we will email NY attorneys their certificates within 60 days of conference completion.

The ABA directly applies for and ordinarily receives CLE credit for ABA programs in AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, DE, GA, GU, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MN, MS, MO, MT, NM, NV, NY, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, VI, WA, WI, and WV. These states sometimes do not approve a program for credit before the program occurs. This transitional program is approved for both newly admitted and experienced attorneys in NY. For more information about CLE accreditation in your state, visit www.ambar.org/antitrust. States typically decide whether a program qualifies for CLE credit in their jurisdiction 6-8 weeks after the program application is submitted.

INTERNATIONAL CLEThe conference will seek accreditation for CPD/CLE by the Solicitors Regulation Authority of England and Wales. A Certificate of Attendance for International CLE can be provided by contacting the IBA Conference Department at [email protected].
