1. INTRODUCTION & HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR

Delhi Institute of Tool Engineering (DITE) came into existence w.e.f. 28th Nov. 2007 and is functioning under the Administrative control of Department of Training & Technical Education, Government of NCT of Delhi. DITE operates from two Campuses: Campus-I, Wazirpur Industrial area, Delhi and Campus-II, Okhla Industrial area, New Delhi. The societies of Tool Room & Training Centre (TRTC) at Wazirpur Industrial Areaand Hi-Tech Vocational Training Centre (HTVTC) at Okhla Industrial Area were amalgamated and renamed as DITE.

TRTC at Wazirpurand HTVTCat Okhlawere established with technical and financial assistance of Government of Denmark and Government of Italy respectivelyto contribute towards the development of industries in and around Delhi through supply of trained manpower, undertaking job work of machining and manufacturing of sophisticated tools. These centres were functioning as independent societies, registered under the societies registration act, 1860 each having separate Governing council and General body of the society.

DITE has been playing a vital role in the development of micro, small and medium industries through supply of trained manpower in the field of tool making and tool designing and supply of sophisticated tools such as dies, moulds, press tools, jigs, fixtures etc. for the past over Forty years. The Institute conducts post- ITI courses in machine operations and die fitting, Skill development courses, Diploma course in Tool & Die Making, Diploma course in Mechanical Engineering,B.Tech (Tool Engineering), B.Tech (Mechatronics) and M.Tech (Tool Engineering) to cater to ever challenging needs of technical excellence in the area of ToolEngineering andMechatronics.

The trainees are given on job training by well qualified faculty of the Institute. The long-term Courses offered by Institute are approved by AICTE. The Diploma Course in Tool & Die Making and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering are affiliated to Board of Technical Education, Govt. of NCT Delhi&B. Tech and M.Tech Coursesare affiliated to GGSIP University. The Institute also conducts various short-term courses in the field of Tool Engineering, operation & maintenance of CNC machines.

The institute is also manufacturing sophisticated tools and equipment’s for DRDO and reputed Industries viz. Maruti Udyog Ltd, L&T, Voltas, National Institute of Visually handicapped (NIVH), Minda, Steel Strips India Ltd etc. It also provides consultancy service in the field of Tool Engineering to the SSI sector. DITE is perhaps the only Institute in the country where the degree level course in Tool Engineering is being conducted. Our endeavour is to make DITE as the centre of Excellence in Tool Engineering and Integrated Engineering’s. The Trainees of the Institute are absorbed by the industries through campus interview during the final year of their training period.

Research Project Applied to DST: DST project

Research Project Applied Under the SYST Scheme In 2017

It is a matter of pride that for the first time in the history of DITE, a research project has been granted by Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India. The project duration is 2 years and is worth 17.47 Lakhs. A new research lab has been setup in DITE with the efforts of Prof S Maji, Dr Narayan Agrawal, ShKanwarjeet Singh and Sh Rahul Katna (Principal Investigator).

In February 2017, first time in DITE, A research proposal for development of cutting fluid has been applied for obtaining research grant under the DST scheme – SYST (Scheme for Young scientists and Technologists) to achieve another milestone and entered in the exclusive club of institution awarded research projects by DST, Govt. of India. Sh. Rahul Katna, who is an alumni of DITE (M.Tech 34th Batch) and working as Guest Faculty prepared the project proposal for applying under the SYST

scheme and work as the Principal Investigator for this project and proposal was lead by the following eminent faculties of DITE:

1. Prof. S. Maji, Director-Cum-Principal 2. Dr. Narayan Agrawal, HOD(PG) 3. Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh, HOD (TE)

The proposed project aims at reducing the carcinogenic and toxic effects of the mineral oil based cutting fluid. The conventionally used mineral and petroleum based cutting fluids are toxic and cause many health problems to the workers who come in direct contact with them. Many occupational diseases arising due to long term exposure to these metal working fluids. The solution proposed was developing a novel biodegradable cutting fluid which would perform as effectively as the conventional mineral and petroleum based cutting fluid and also be safe for environment and humans.

Page 33: 10thAnnual Report 2017-18 - ::Dite::

33

The scheme is focused on young scientists & technologist who have adequate background and training in fields of science and technology and show inclination to undertake socially relevant action research projects. This is also to encourage academic institutions, national labs and other S&T institutions to develop societal projects involving young scientists & technologist. The project proposals must show an active association with a field agency in regard to implementation of the project irrespective of the fact whether the candidate is attached to an educational institution or R&D institution or any other agency.

The objectives of the scheme are:

1. To provide opportunities to young scientists & technologist for pursuing innovative research ideas which have direct bearing on societal problems as well as visible technology transfer component.

2. To provide opportunities for interaction and exchange of ideas with scientific community 3. To involve young scientists in S&T development process with inputs of S & T through

internships in selected NGOs.

12. TRAINING AND PLACEMENTS

About Training and Placement Cell

DITE has two campuses and has a well-established Centralized Training and Placement Cell headed by Sh. C.S.Srivastava (Chairman TPC) and dynamic team of faculty members and officers who have a vast experience in teaching, production and liaison with the industry. The main aim of the cell is to improve the overall worth of students as per the demands of market and the quantity of placements in DITE. Pre-placement talks, Interactive sessions with the Industry experts are organized by the cell on regular basis, for the professional development of students. The Campus recruitment programme starts at the beginning of the semester for final year students and continues till the end of both the Diploma and Degree courses students are placed. DITE has a strong policy not to allow any company doing Education & Training activities to attract the students in the name of placement. Facilities for Recruiters

Dedicated access to Computer Lab for conducting online tests and air-conditioned seminar halls for offline tests.

• Conference Room. • Interview Rooms. • Skype/Video Conferencing. • Business New Paper, Magazines and Library resources. • Internet/Wi-Fi access. DITE Placement Partners
