Baptisms l Bautizos Two to three months in advance
Baptisms take place the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 9:00 AM. Parents and God-parents are required to attend the pre-baptismal class prior to Baptism. Pre-Baptismal class take place the 3rd Saturday of the month at 4:45 PM.

Gospel reading ( Matthew 5: 13 - 16) Evangelio ( San Mateo 5, 13 – 16) Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste , with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”
Continuing our season of Ordinary Time, the readings today call us to be completely sure about the mission that God has entrusted to the Church and to each of her members without exception. The reading from Isaiah is the classical prophetic call toward justice and compassion. The psalm describes the qualities of the ‘upright’ who ‘lavishly gives to the poor’. By lovingly serving people in need we are sure that we are doing the work of God, the work that most concerns God. The Christian redefinition of wisdom and power is clearly described by Paul. For Paul true wisdom and true power are paradoxically revealed in God making himself vulnerable to us in Christ crucified and in human weakness dependent on God’s grace. This implies the total overthrow of the typical ways in which the world runs and the ways in which it envisions wisdom and power. Indeed, ‘God’s ways are not our ways’, but we must make God’s ways our ways too. The gospel reading comes from the beginning of Matthew’s ‘Sermon on the Mount’, a collection of Jesus’ teachings, where we find Jesus’ ‘vision and mission’ for his disciples and ultimately for his church. The disciples are to be ‘salt in the world’, with salt’s properties of enhancing the true flavor (joy) of life, of preserving from corruption, of warding off evil, of healing, of signifying unity, and of witnessing to what is truly valuable (salt was used for all these purposes in antiquity). Even more precious to the ancients was light, which we take for granted in developed countries until our power fails and we are reminded of how weak and dependent we really are. Light gives sight, disperses darkness, reveals beauty and truth, shows the way, gives joy and hope, safety and freedom. For Jesus his disciples are never to hide the light they have received and that by God’s grace they themselves are. Instead, with their compassion and righteousness they are to bring joy and sight, hope and freedom, justice and righteousness, to a world that experiences the ‘darknesses’ of oppression, poverty, war, materialism, loneliness, fear, and so many others. The Church today is to be this salt and light –visible, palpable, effective –both with her voice and with her good deeds. To do so we must recover continually the ‘original vision and mission’ that we find in the prophets and psalms, in the letters and gospels. This call to be daring and not hide, to take risks on behalf of the world ’that God so loves’, can happen if we trust in God and depend on God’s grace. This year, let us learn the Gospel, proclaim the Gospel, live the Gospel, and be the Gospel, the salt and light, of Jesus Christ in our families, communities, and society. Let us be God’s salt and light in the transformation of our world.

Today’s reading offers significant messages: ♦ Today’s readings employ light as a metaphor for the
righteousness and justice that improves the lives of people As the people of God, we are all called to bring the light of justice and righteousness into our world by reflecting the light that is Jesus Christ with our words and deeds.
♦ ·Jesus’ sermon calls his disciples to active mission in the world, overcoming darkness by being light, and enhancing the joy of the world by being salt.
La lectura de hoy nos presenta tres ideas importantes: ♦ Las lecturas de hoy emplean luz como símbolo de
rectitud y justicia que beneficia las vidas de las personas. Como el pueble de Dios, somos llamados a traer la luz de justicia y rectitud al mundo reflejando la luz que es Jesucristo, con nuestras palabras y obras.
♦ El sermón de Jesús llama a sus discípulas a una activa misión en el mundo, venciendo las tinieblas siendo luz, y trayendo gozo siendo sal.
En aquel tiempo, dijo Jesús a sus discípulos: “Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra. Pero si la sal se vuelve sosa, ¿con qué la salarán? No sirve más que para tirarla fuera y que la pise la gente. Vosotros sois la luz del mundo. No se puede ocultar una ciudad puesta en lo alto de un monte. Tampoco se enciende una lámpara para meterla debajo del candelero, sino para ponerla en el candelero y que alumbre a todos los de casa. Alumbre así vuestra luz a los hombres, para que vean vuestras buenas obras y den gloria a vuestro Padre que está en el cielo.”
Continuando con el Tiempo Ordinario, las lecturas hoy nos llaman a estar completamente seguros de nuestra misión que Dios ha confiado a la Iglesia y a cada uno de sus miembros sin excepción. La lectura de Isaías es el llamado clásico profético de luchar por la justicia y compasión. El salmo describe las cualidades del ‘recto’ quien ‘da generosamente al pobre’. Sirviendo al prójimo en necesidad con amor estamos seguros de que estamos logrando la obra de Dios, la obra que más le interesa a Dios. La redefinición cristiana de la sabiduría y del poder está claramente descrita por Pablo. Para Pablo la verdadera sabiduría y el verdadero poder son paradójicamente revelados en Dios haciéndose vulnerables hacia nosotros en Cristo crucificado y en la debilidad humana que depende de la gracia divina. Esto implica la total derrota de las maneras típicas en que el mundo funciona y de las maneras en que se concibe la sabiduría y el poder. De veras, ‘los caminos de Dios no son los nuestros’, pero tenemos que hacer los caminos de Dios los nuestros también. El evangelio hoy nos viene del comienzo del ‘sermón de la montaña’ de Mateo, una colección de las enseñanzas de Jesús, donde encontramos su ‘visión y misión’ para sus discípulos y para su Iglesia. Los discípulos han de ser ‘sal del mundo’, con las propiedades de la sal de acentuando el sabor (gozo) de la vida, de preservar de la corrupción, de detener a lo maligno, de sanar, de unir, y de dar testimonio a los grandes valores (la sal se usaba para estos propósitos en la antigüedad). Y aun mas valioso para los antiguos era la luz, que nosotros no notamos su valor hasta que falla la electricidad y se nos recuerda lo débil y dependientes que de verdad somos. Luz da vista, disipa la oscuridad, revela belleza y la verdad, enseña el camino, da alegría y esperanza, seguridad y libertad. Para Jesús, sus discípulos no han de nunca esconder la luz que han recibido de la gracia de Dios y que ellos mismo son. En vez, con su compasión y rectitud han de traer alegría y vista, esperanza y libertad, justicia y rectitud, a un mundo que experimenta las oscuridades de la opresión, pobreza, guerra, materialismo, soledad, temor y muchas otras. La Iglesia hoy ha de ser sal y luz – visible, palpable, efectiva – con su voz y con sus buenas obras. Para lograrlo tenemos que recobrar continuamente la ‘visión y misión original’ que la encontramos en los profetas y salmos, epístolas y evangelios. Este llamado de ser intrépidos y no escondernos, de retarnos por la causa del mundo ‘que Dios tanto ama’, puede ocurrir si confiamos en Dios y dependemos de su gracia. Este año aprendamos el evangelio, proclamemos el evangelio, vivimos el evangelio, y seamos el evangelio, sal y luz de Jesucristo a nuestras familias, comunidades, y sociedad. Seamos la sal y luz de Dios en la transformación del mundo.
