121st birthday of India’s Iconicpatriot Netaji Subash ChandraBose, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavanhad organised the launch andpremiere of a documentaryfilm ‘At the Altar of India’sFreedom’ – INA Veterans of

Malaysia on 23rd January 2017.The half an hour film wasscreened after the formal launchand release by veteran freedomfighter centenarian Sri. H.S.Dorewasmy. Sri H. N. Suresh,Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavanwelcomed the Chief Guest and the

gathering. Journalist ChoodieShivaram who has conceptualisedand directed the film spoke aboutwhat prompted her to embark onthis mission, and her experiencesduring the filming.

Speaking to a packed hall,Sri. H.S. Dorewasmy extolled thedaring journey of SubashChandra Bose’s life and hisuncompromising mission tofree India from Imperial rule.He spoke at length on the roleof Netaji during the freedomstruggle leaving the audienceawestruck on his ability to recalland narrate with precision. He expressed his disillusionmentover the state of affairs in societynow and implored people topreserve the values of this nation

and not let the sacrifices of ourfreedom fighters go in vain.

‘At the Altar of India’sFreedom’ – INA Veterans ofMalaysia, is produced by theIndian High Commission atMalaysia. The film has beenconceptualised, scripted anddirection by journalist ChoodieShivaram who has researchedextensively on Netaji, INA andSoutheast Asia. The film captures the stories of valour, sacrifice and the saga of theseMalaysian veterans who, asteenagers then, fought for India’sfreedom from the distant lands ofSoutheast Asia. Many of themhad never even seen India!

in detail their war experiences,training and the impact that NetajiSubash Chandra Bose had ontheir lives. The film documentsa significant part of Indian historythat has not received duerecognition; the role of MalaysianIndians in India’s freedomstruggle. Young men and womenhastened to support NetajiSubash Chandra Bose leavingbehind their homes, families, andlives of comfort. The remarkableyoung women of the INA formedthe Rani of Jhansi Regiment

which was the first all-womancombat regiment in the world.Trained to be equal in all respectsto their male counterparts, thishistoric unit served with valourand distinction in the most brutalwar of the modern age. Even tothis day, these INA veterans whoare nonagenarians, continue tolive by the lofty ideals of Netaji.

The audience were leftemotional and overwhelmed asthey watched the film in raptattention.

Sri.Praveen Kumar,ESSGEE Educational Servicespresented a brief report on theGandhi Institute and itsachievements. He spoke aboutthe origin of Gandhi Institute in1996 at Mumbai and how it hasestablished 53 centres all overIndia training 35000 studentsper year, out of which, 11 centresare in the south. The GandhiInstitute so far has trained

350000 students. He detailedthe process of admission andhow the various courses/classesare conducted, evaluated andcertified at Bangalore. He alsohighlighted that 1300 studentsare trained at the Bangalorecentre since October 2013.
