THE THEME In taking on humanity, Jesus be-came like us in all ways but sin. He experienced heartache and sorrow, joy and affirmation, chal-lenge and rejection. He suffered

many things, but his message never wavered. He came as a servant in our midst, willing to accept his human lot, to transform all things with his submis-sion to the will of the Father. His message to his dis-ciples is clear: If you want to follow me, you must be a servant to all.

From Fr. Peter’s Desk Twenty-Ninth Sunday

in Ordinary Time Dear Parish Family: Our First Reading from the Book of Isaiah tells us of a servant who would redeem Israel through suffer-ing. Isaiah saw the world turned upside down by God’s victory and the restoration of Israel. In Isaiah’s imagination and poetry, the suffering servant enhanced the “new creation” God was working out. The author of Hebrews reminds us that we have a God of mercy and compassion, one who can sympa-thize with our weaknesses. Through his son Jesus, the Suffering Servant, God understands our pain and suffering, rejoices in our triumphs and invites us to seek Him in our times of need. Our Gospel tells a story of James and John seeking favor with Jesus and the negative response it gets from the other disciples. Jesus uses this situation to emphasize to His disciples that the highest place of honor is not next to the King at the banquet table but on the floor with the lowest servants, kneeling to wash the dirty feet of the guests. My brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus tells us in today’s Gospel that true glory comes from being a servant for others. Many parents, teachers, military personnel, first responders and so many more are of-ten living examples of servant leadership. Let us pray to become one who strives daily to serve others without the need to be recognized. We engage our-selves in Jesus’ love by being servants to others. May God Bless You All, Fr. Peter

Stewardship Reflection In today’s first reading, we are told that we can confidently approach God and ask for mercy and grace. Living Stewardship
