HEAP OUTREACH DATES Erie County Legislator John J. Mills announces that several additional Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Outreaches have been scheduled in his district. Interviews will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Doors open at 8:30am. All applicants will be interviewed. The following outreaches have been scheduled: • Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Eden Town Hall, 2795 East Church St., Eden, NY 14057• Thursday, Jan. 31 at Sardinia Town Hall, 12320 Savage Road, Sardinia, NY 14134• Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at Orchard Park Municipal Building, 4295 S. Buffalo St., Orchard Park, NY 14127• Thursday, Feb. 14 at Boston Town Hall, 8500 Boston State Road, Boston, NY 14025. HEAP is a federally funded program to assist income eligible Erie County residents with the costs of home heating, electricity, and energy conservation. The HEAP outreach will be administered by the Erie County Depart-ments of Social Services and Senior Services and is open to all income eligible households. “HEAP outreaches provide eligible recipients with in-dividual attention to help with the process. Anyone who has questions is encouraged to attend to ensure they meet the requirements for receiving HEAP benefits,” said Leg-islator Mills. Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten RegistrationFOR EDEN CENTRAL SCHOOLis to be held for the 2013-2014 school year at the

Grover L. Priess Primary School February 4th through February 7th.

Registration is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on February 4th & 5th and from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on February 6th & 7th by appointment. Registration will take approximately 45 minutes.

To be eligible for Kindergarten in September, a child must be 5 years of age on/before December 1, 2013.

To be eligible for Pre-Kindergarten in September, a child must be 4 years of age on/before December 1, 2013. If they are older than this age, they are not eligible for this program. (If they are eligible for Kindergarten this school year, they are not eligible for Pre-Kindergarten.

All Pre-Kindergarten students must be registered prior to the open registration cutoff date of March 22, 2013. If more students register than spots are available, a lottery may be necessary.

GIRL SCOUT RECYCLING IN EDEN PARKS Over the summer Skylar Kennedy worked in the Eden parks recycling to earn her Girl Scouts Silver Award. She was required to find a need in the community and com-plete 50 hours of work to fulfill that need. Every week-end for 5 months, Skylar went to all 5 of the Eden parks (Swartz, Legion, Gorcia, Minekime and Flower) and col-lected recyclables, with the help of Waste Management letting her use recycle bins. She was able to collect 6-50 gallon bags of glass, plastic, and aluminum that was re-cycled by Waste Management. She also raised $70 from can and bottle returnables and purchased a recycle bin. This recycle bin was donated to Sue Brass and the Town Recreation Department and will be placed in one of the parks. Skylar is grateful to Sue Brass from the Town Rec-reation Department and Waste Management for helping her to complete this project.

St. Mary of the Lake students in grades 3-5 are ex-traordinary members of the community. This year, they have maintained their friendships with local homebound elderly residents. They visited their homes on Halloween with treats and sent gifts for Christmas to their “pen pals.” They included this picture in their packages to brighten their friends’ days during the holiday season.
