Schools Spectacular

Twenty Five Kelso High students spent most of Week 7 in Sydney for the Schools Spectacular show. Our students were represented in the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble and Non-metropolitan Schools' Segment. The students per-formed in front of almost 21 000 audience members and set a Guinness World Record for Largest Amateur Variety Act.

All dancers did an amazing job and we are very proud of their achievements.

November 21 - An early start for our Aboriginal Dance Ensemble. Quick brekkie stop on our way to Homebush for a week of rehears-als for Schools Spectacular.

November 25 - Kelso High's Schools Spectacular team is currently at Qudos Bank Arena. After several days of rehearsals the students' hard work will finally pay off when their audience enters the arena today. Best of luck to our awesome dancers and their fantastic work so far.

November 26 - What an incredible inspiring and uplifting show at Schools Spectacular involving over 5,000 students from public schools across NSW. So proud of our students and staff who worked so hard, performed brilliantly and are part of something really special.

November 29 - Congratulations to all of the dancers who participated in the Schools Spectacular last week. You all did a wonderful job!

Principal’s Report

Celebrating Student Successes

One of the best parts of this time of the year is that we get to celebrate our high student achievers. Our

Commendation Assemblies were held on Monday 12 December. Each year group (7-10) were involved in a separate

year assembly throughout the day where commendations were presented and students were issued with their

reports.

Parents can also view the reports on the parent portal at http://web3.kelso-h.schools.nsw.edu.au/portal/register.

Presentation night starts at 7:00 pm on Tuesday 13 December

Parent Focus Group Meeting

Thanks very much to the parents who attended our parent focus group last week. We spent some time discussing good

things that are happening, areas we can improve and some of our plans for 2017. One of our strategies is to employ a

Community Liaison Officer in 2017 to help us better connect and communicate with our school community. We are

advertising the position now. Applications close on Tuesday 13 December.

Departing Staff

I wish to acknowledge the staff who will not be returning to Kelso High in 2017 and thank them for their contribution.

In many cases. Five teaching staff are retiring: Mrs Stephanie Brown, Mrs Kim Baker, Mrs Cheryl Cole, Ms Kathy Starr

and Mr Russ Macpherson. Each one of these people has played a really significant role over many years at Kelso High.

We will also greatly miss Ms Kate Tonkin, Ms Lamai Thompson-Long and Ms Kylie-Rose McLean who are moving to take

up opportunities elsewhere.

Happy and Safe Holiday

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday, and a happy Christmas with family

and friends. Thankyou to everyone for their contribution to what has been an excellent year at Kelso High Campus. We

have such great students and dedicated and hardworking staff who make a difference every day. People are very tired

at the moment, and have certainly earned their holiday.

Top Performances:

KHC volleyball teams who competed in Melbourne last week. For the first time our A team is in the honours divi-

sion and played extremely well.

Our open boys’ cricket side who have won though to the Western Final, which will be played on Monday 12 De-

cember at Brooke Moore oval v Dubbo Senior College. Our boys were successful in the semi-final, with a thrilling

last ball finish, thanks to a two by man of the match Jay Webber!

Mark Day, Henry Allen, Connor Slattery, Deua Berry and Brendan Pallier were all selected in the Western Region

CHS Open Boys Cricket side and Mariah Gilchrist who made the Western Girls team.

Our Aboriginal ensemble and our Dance ensemble were fantastic in Schools Spectacular.
