SAINT THERESA OF CALCUTTA’S

“ANYWAY PRAYER”

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of

selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies; succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build it anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you’ve got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway.

Breathe in Love,

Exhale Peace.

BEHIND THE SCENES

The volunteer services of our parishioners are extraordinary and provide the framework for a healthy and strong religious community. Many of you know the Ministry heads and

observe the persons who each Sunday provide a visible presence of their church and parish commitment. But what about those who do the “behind the scenes” tasks that help enrich our community? Frequently we will highlight these invisible ones for your information.

Today we honor the Shawl Ministry. One of our most endearing

practices is giving a hand-knitted shawl to new infants, those parishioners facing an operation, the sick and homebound, and others with a special need. Meeting twice monthly, these angels

knit the shawls with love and compassion for those receiving them. The group is headed by Lynne Richardson and consists of Barbara Zimmerman, Marge Dembeck, Loretta Borostovik, Matt Ponish,

Gerrie Lohr, Lynne Dreelin & Kathy Kauffman.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary

Time Daily prayer

Reading I: Genesis 18:20–32 (Abraham intercedes for Sodom) Reading II: Colossians 2:12–14 (sovereign role of Christ) Gospel: Luke 11:1–13 (the Our Father) Key Passage: Jesus said, “So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.” (Luke 11:9) Adult Have your most recent prayers been prayers of praise, petition, or sorrow? Which kind of prayer do you need to practice more often? Child What are you most thankful for right now?

NEW CHURCH UPDATE

We did not appear before the Diocesan Building and Renovation Commission (BARC) in July as previously announced, but are now scheduled for August. The architect’s drawings are ready for presentation, and we now await the construction engineer’s stamp of approval and a site plan. Costs to date for the survey of the property are $23K. For the moment, our building committee and it sub-committees are actively engaged in their tasks with a lot of detailed decision-making in the offing when the final BARC approval is received. Keep the pledge campaign in your mind, if you haven't committed as yet, and the eventual success of our project in your prayers.

We are understandably frustrated it has taken so long to receive

approval when we are comfortable with the design and believe our plan is sound. Unlike past years, the BARC requires more and more detail before approving projects, and we want to make sure we have

all the detail and potential requirements covered for this final phase. Convincing five architects (members of the BAC) and others you have a sound well-financed plan is a challenge and an obstacle we have to overcome. As you are aware, patience is a virtue, and ours continues

to be tested in this quest to build a new church.

MS SUPER SENIOR VIRGINIA

We are proud to announce that Rebecca Nunn, Ms. Super Senior Virginia USA 2019, competed in the Ms. Super Senior Virginia USA Pageant in Las Vegas this June and was crowned second runner-up which makes Becky the number three Super Senior in the nation.

Congratulations Becky. She is pictured with Ms. Senior Puerto Rico.

VISITATION SINGERS Lots of flag waving at the nursing home last week

with Visitation Singers as we sang patriotic songs in honor of July 4th.

(flags were donated by the American Legion Post 83 in Mathews) Tom played the banjo~~great sound, added a whole new

dimension, Eileen played a lot of harmonies with the flute & Cindy revved up the residents.

LEGACY GIFTS

More and more Catholic families are making gifts to create a parish endowment fund in memory of parents and other loved ones. Parishioners may wish to establish an ongoing fund which can be added to each year, or make a one-time gift. The benefits of this type of gift will carry on from generation to generation. Contact Father Gerry Kaggwa to learn more about establishing an endowed memorial fund in the name of your parent (s) or loved one.
