This October the Catholic Church around the world is

observing an Extraordinary Month of Mission. This is an

initiative of Pope Francis. Its aim is to encourage all members

of our Catholic community to recognise themselves as

missionary disciples, working and praying together to share

God’s love with everyone, everywhere.

...the Lord stood by me and gave me power, so that through

me the whole message might be proclaimed …

2Timothy 4:17

‘This missionary mandate touches us personally:

I am a mission, always; you are a mission, always;

every baptised man and woman is a mission.’

Pope Francis

Before Mass begins, our Salisbury Catholic Churches choir will sing ‘If there is to be peace’ by Richard Shephard.

If there is to be peace in the world, there must be peace in the nations. If there is to be peace in the nations, there must be peace in the cities. If there is to be peace in the cities, there must be peace between neighbours. If there is to be peace between neighbours, there must be peace in the home. If there is to be peace in the home, there must be peace in the heart.

Entrance Hymn

God, you call us to this place where we know your love and grace. Here your hospitality makes of us one family, makes our rich diversity richer still in unity, makes our many voices one, joined in praise with Christ your Son Now assembled in Christ’s name, all your mercies to proclaim - In the hearing of your word, in the gospel of the Lord, in the breaking of the bread, in the meal where we are fed - in the Spirit let us be one in faith and unity. In the water we were born of the Spirit in the Son, Now a priestly, royal race rich in every gift of grace - called, forgiven, loved and freed, for the world we intercede: Gather into unity all the human family.

FIRST READING 2 Timothy 4:10-17

Demas has deserted me for love of this life and gone to Thessalonika, Crescens has gone to Galatia and Titus to Dalmatia; only Luke is with me. Get Mark to come and bring him with you; I find him a useful helper in my work. I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. When you come, bring the cloak I left with Carpus in Troas, and the scrolls, especially the parchment ones. Alexander the coppersmith has done me a lot of harm; the Lord will repay him for what he has done. Be on your guard against him yourself, because he has been bitterly contesting everything that we say. The first time I had to present my defence, there was not a single witness to support me. Every one of them deserted me – may they not be held accountable for it. But the Lord stood by me and gave me power, so that through me the whole message might be proclaimed for all the pagans to hear; and so I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 133:1-3 Sung in Malayalam

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest. Start off now, but remember, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. Salute no one on the road. Whatever house you go into, let your first words be, “Peace to this house!” And if a man of peace lives there, your peace will go and rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the same house, taking what food and drink they have to offer, for the labourer deserves his wages; do not move from house to house. Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome, eat what is set before you. Cure those in it who are sick, and say, “The kingdom of God is very near to you.”’ The Gospel of the Lord. ALL: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. HOMILY

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL Celebrant: Brothers and sisters in Christ, confident in God’s love and in our unity as his children, let us present our prayers before the throne of grace. We pray for Pope Francis and all who lead the Church, and we remember especially in this Extraordinary Month of Mission, our Lord’s commission to “go and make disciples of all nations”, praying that the Holy Spirit will empower us to be true to our baptism in courageously bearing witness to the Gospel.

We pray for the needs of our world – for the poor and hungry and for all those in places where there is conflict and division. For world leaders, that they will respect the dignity and rights of all their people, so that fear, hatred and oppression may give way to reconciliation, justice and peace. Let us pray for the persecuted and vulnerable, for the marginalized and downtrodden and those who suffer any form of racial discrimination. We give thanks for the rich variety of humanity and pray that we may learn from one another, and that peoples of every race, language and culture may live together in harmony and understanding.

For a just and proper use of the earth’s resources, that the sins of greed and exploitation may be banished from hearts, minds and society, and all may fully share the riches of our planet.

We pray for all church organisations, local and international, that our witness, time and resources will help good things happen so that all people will praise God’s goodness and know his love.

On this Feast of St Luke, patron of doctors, we pray for all in health care and those who tend the elderly, the sick and the dying, that their faith will sustain them when times are challenging, so that their care will be loving and compassionate.

We turn to Mary, mother of our Lord and of Christians everywhere, and ask her to intercede for us. We call upon her now: [Malayalam] (Hail Mary - sung)

In silence we remember those who have died, especially those known and loved by us.

Celebrant: God our Father, draw us closer to yourself, that we may imitate your love and show forth your glory in the world, through Christ our Lord All Amen.

Just for you alone I give my heart Just for you alone, I give my soul Take my innocence and misery And my obedience I pledge to you I’ve been holding all my feelings, I’ve reserved them all for you because the call of love is strong I can not help but follow you.

We will move forward for communion row by row.

During Communion, there will be a Malaylam hymn first, followed by:

1. Will you come and follow me

if I but call your name? Will you go where you don't know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

2. Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare? Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?

3. Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?

4. Will you love the `you' you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around, through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?

5. Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same. In your company I'll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

Final Hymn

Church of God, elect and glorious, holy nation, chosen race; called as God’s own special people, royal priests and heirs of grace: know the purpose of your calling, show to all his mighty deeds; tell of love which knows no limits, grace which meets all human needs. God has called you out of darkness into his most marvellous light, brought his truth to life within you, turned your blindness into sight. Let your light so shine around you that God’s name is glorified; and all find fresh hope and purpose in Christ Jesus crucified. Once you were an alien people, strangers to God’s heart of love; but he brought you home in mercy, citizens of heaven above. Let his love flow out to others, let them feel a Father’s care; that they too may know his welcome and his countless blessings share. Church of God, elect and holy, be the people he intends; strong in faith and swift to answer each command your master sends: royal priest, fulfil your calling through your sacrifice and prayer; give your lives in joyful service - sing his praise, his love declare.

At the end of Mass, please could everyone remain in the

hall area until called through for food. We will call people

through in small groups to enable us to manage the

service of food as smoothly and quickly as possible - thank

you for your patience.
